I've been running into trouble when occasionally my team just doesn't get any shots and plays like shit.
So when it started to happen in a recent game I decided to go to full mode and watch. And it's fucking fascinating, because there's nothing particularly wrong, except for the fact that all of my players are playing like they're amateurs.
I've got players with 20 passing missing five yard passes to open teammates under no pressure, guys with 18 first touch having simple balls bounce off them like they're rubber. It's almost comical.
I just watched a defender with 18 composure and 17 concentration get the ball deep with no one around him and panic and hoof it out of bounds, even though we're in control mode with a "play out of defense" instruction. There was no one within 30 yards of him.
It honestly looks like the game arbitrarily took 10 off of every players attributes. Very bizarre.

I've noticed that exploit the middle often makes it easier to get crosses in, especially if your CM's have "likes to switch ball to flanks". Essentially you congest the middle of the pitch and then put the ball wide where there's space for your winger to put in a cross.
When you "exploit" the flanks you often congest the flanks too much and simply don't have the space.
That's just my observation though.
