I should try and plan a holiday at a place that hosts a GP next year and get tickets. Problem is that my regular travelling companion cares not for racing and I don't want to leave her on her own for a full day.
Whats the best track that isn't extremely expensive? I prefer to stay in Europe.

At any race track in any racing series, isn't sitting in the frontstretch grandstands the single shittiest spot to view a race in person? Any track with even one good corner would be so much better
>>
>>67375956
no usually there are shittier spots, plus u get to see the pits, celebrations, grid, etc
>>
>>67375956
>>67376219
You also get to see the leaderboard and you get to see the start. And of course the actual finish of the race. So yeah front stretch is pretty much the premium seats to watch the race.

>>
>>67379659
schumi wasn't actually that good
>>
>>67375956
Yes and no. I've been to the circuit for years, been pretty much everywhere and it depends on what you prefer

The grandstands are nice because you get to see the teams preparing, and you get to see the drivers and celebrities camping around like a swarm, but once that is over, there isn't much value to them. If you've already done pictures of the drivers on Thursday or the other days where you can go anywhere, there's not much to them

In Montmelo this is even worse, because you don't get to actually see the race. In normal tracks you have screens, in Montmelo in the grandstands you have jack shit. To top it off, the scoreboard on Montmelo only has the driver number, so you don't really know who's who unless you get a paper copy with all the numbers.

The pelouse is nice because there's a LOT of ambient, in the Alonso era there was also a lot of activities made by teams so it was also fun to just be there.

The better places are the ones where you get to see most of the action, for example in Montmelo it's best to be in the last grandstand, where you see all the track and you have a gigantic monitor at the end of the last turn as well

That said, this is my experience on the Circuit only, on F1, Moto, truck races I went for the keks, GT, one 24h and random stuff sometimes, but I assume it's the same deal

So Grandstand = take photos, pelouse = have fun, selected stand = go watch the race

Okay, I'll bite. The only ones that could be argued that he didn't earn, were 2001, 2002 and 2004, due to them being in dominant machinery.

But then, he was the essential driving factor that got Ferrari into that position of strength in the first place. Had he not signed with them in '96, Ross Brawn would have gone fishing at the end of '96, and Rory Byrne had already gone to set up his scuba diving institute in Thailand. They've both been on record saying that they came back because of the allure of working with MSC again, and making Ferrari great again.

So I'd say that by influencing two of the top engineering minds of F1 history by such a major degree, and by sticking loyally with the team through the ups and downs of the late 90s (unlike a certain Spaniard who loved to slag his own team off) he did in fact earn the dominant titles too.
>>
>>67381716
This years calendar is actually pretty nice. We get the boring tracks out of the way early, have a relatively short summer break after which we have the double header Spa-Monza. Second half is gonna be /comfy/ af desu

Is anyone supporting Kyvat? They were probably going to ditch him at the they end of the year anyway, but doing it early in the season just one race after he was on the podium seems harsh and unfair.
>>
>>67382772
I'm indifferent. This is how RB operates. They are just a huge mountain of jerk-offs but they can win. RB will win a WDC or WCC before Ferrari does.
>>
>>67382772
I do. He outscored Rico, got the only RB's podium this season and made Vettel cry. I'm not happy to change that to Amd Amx tears lol.

Marlboro wouldn't bother sponsoring any team now. Obviously it was an advertisment-livery, but White/Red is the Japanese 'racing colors'. Considering Honda is the engine supplier, and no one else is using those colors, It would make sense. I think they painted it Black/Red as a reference to the White/Red anyway. I'd argue that the old Silver/Red was a subtle reference to that too. It's probably the 2nd most iconic F1 livery other then Ferrari Red.

They still sponsor Ferrari, though. They own all ad-space on the livery, which they then sell to other bidders, which is how they recoup their investment.

Yeah, thats true, but I thought they actually owned a significant share of the team as well? Either way, McLaren don't really have a slew of sponsors like Ferrari do, so I dunno if it would be a good investment anyway.

Secondly, whether Honda/other sponsors would allow McLaren to take on a tobacco sponsor is the other thing. I'm sure someone would take issue with it. Also if they have to re-neg they're ad space on the car, they might not bother.

It would be a deal with the parent company, Phillip Morris (like it is with Ferrari), so that wouldn't be the issue. The case against subliminal advertising may be a bigger factor though, although it did nothing against the Lotus faux JPS livery

How can you not see this? With the livery and the team logo combined, the Marlboro logo is clearly visible, from this side at least. Hell, the team logo itself is displaying the Marlboro logo somehow.

They were forced to change their livery in 2010 when everyone claimed that it was too obvious.. So they made it less obvious from 2011 to 2015.
This year it's so obvious again.. I'm wondering why no whiteknight health concerned faggot hasn't raged about it on his blog yet.

>It would be a deal with the parent company, Phillip Morris (like it is with Ferrari), so that wouldn't be the issue.

Phillip Morris is still a tobacco company. With Ferrari it never ended, but for McLaren this would be a new deal. It's probably unlikely that any sponsor would have a problem with it because it's not a direct conflict of interest, but if media span it the wrong way, some of the sponsors might have an issue with it.

In any case, I think it would be unlikely PM/Marlboro would bother with it. There's a lot more lucrative things to stick their fingers into.

>‘It’s a shame because the dog was very loyal and usually well behaved,’ explained a Red Bull insider. ‘In fact, just two weeks ago the dog saved some orphans from inside a burning building. But then it slightly growled when it saw a squirrel outside and Dr Marko had it shot.’

>The dog will be replaced by a new, younger dog from Dr Marko’s Italian puppy farm which will be looked after by Christian Horner. ‘Christian is very excited to get the new dog,’ said a source. ‘And he doesn’t even mind the dog’s dad hanging around the garage in a bad leather jacket looking like a boozy scrap metal dealer.’

No its not. Just because the team color is red and white it doesn't mean you have to start masturbating for some conspiracy when anything that resembles a V shape appears somewhere.

Subliminal advertising does not work. Marlboro has a partnership with Ferrari for a number of different reasons and poorly hiding a logo somewhere in the car isn't one of them. If it was F1 retards wouldn't be the only ones talking about it.

He's still in F1. It's not a huge disaster. Kvyat might need some time to develop, like Grosjean for example.
>>
>>67398081
With Grosjean it was easily obvious he was under prepared and even he knew that. With Daniil it's not that he is under-prepared. He is doing fine. He is being moved out for to make way for the potential of Max.
It's a huge psychological blow. I can't see him recovering. I can't see him going any further up the grid. Just struggling until eventually becoming a reserve driver for some team before retiring young.

It's not nice and I feel supremely sorry for him. I just want to give him a hug.
>>

Why not Monaco? You can stay in Nice and take the train in. The hill section is the cheapest and it's actually a good view.
>>

So you can determine that this is a huge psychological blow? Do you have some sort of telepathy with Kvyat? I understand it could injure his mindset, but if he's good enough it won't and he will remain and deserve to be in F1.
>>
>>67398631
The moment he is out of the red bull programme he is fucked.

His performance at Toro Rosso means little. No matter what happens Max has got his Red Bull seat. They will not replace Max for anything short of death.
No matter what he will be replaced at the end of the year so fresh talent can come in.
He isn't going to get any help from Red Bull or Toro Rosso in getting a seat at a different team and I have no idea on his sponsor situation to try and get a seat.

Maybe he will get a seat elsewhere but he isn't going any higher. For all it's worth his F1 career has stopped.

He could go to Formula E, maybe touring cars. He is quite smart he might find something outside of motor racing.
I just hope he can get some happiness back.

> As I understand it, Verstappen signed for Toro Rosso on a 2+1 contract. In other words, a two-year deal with a one-year extension option. This week, Verstappen is believed to have signed a new contract in which the plus one has become a plus three – at Red Bull Racing. Guaranteed. So Verstappen will be a Red Bull Racing driver not just for 2016, but 2017-19 too. He won't be a free agent until 2020, a season he will begin aged just 22.

He has good points occasionally, but he posted a 4 page promo/praise piece about Gutierrez prior to this season.

I think it's ridiculous to say Max is a "once in a lifetime" talent. What does that even mean? That someone as good as him will come across once a generation? Dude has driven ONE season of F1 and although it was flashy, people seem to forget how most of his overtakes came to be. And this is where his praise and rating comes from, the overtakes. Not his quali pace, not his general race composure, not his adherence to strategy and being able to push tires further than they should, not qualifying much higher than his teammate/car capability. His rating comes from literally occasional moments of flashy coolness combined with his age.

He rarely passed an equal or faster car, and most of his overtakes were a result of him being out of position due to either poor qualifying, mechanical problem in qualifying or wearing out his tires too quickly. His overtakes were cool but most of them were done on fresher tires on worse cars, which would then basically put half of them in the category of "unnecessary risk".

I'm not hating on Max, and I think he is indeed a driver with great potential, but this media dicksuck is so ridiculous especially because he hasn't even proven himself yet. I mean I don't think anyone rates Sainz as a future GOAT, yet he is basically as good at quali as Max is. And barring mechancial failures etc, Sainz really wasn't ANNIHILATED by Max last year. They were quite closely matched, with Max having the edge in races, but still its not like a night and day total annihilation career over sort of domination.

Watch Max be either slower or similar in pace to Ricciardo. I look forward to his time at Red Bull nonetheless.

And it's not like Max is the only proclaimed GOAT in F1, or entering F1. I think there are plenty of drivers in his caliber. Assuming Max doesn't choke and ends up matching his potential, he will be in the top-tier of F1 no doubt, it's just that there are a bunch of other drivers in that category as well.

Vettel, Hamilton, Alonso are still active drivers. Ricciardo is showing himself to be a confident and strong driver and this comparison will be interesting to see. These are drivers who have basically always been strong and shown to be top-tier as soon as they have a car to perform with.

Even hopefuls/future F1 drivers that I think have shown similar promise to Max are Vandoorne and Ocon (refer to their time together in F3). Point being is that Max is a talent, but he's not the only talent and even in a top tier team I doubt he will just cruise to victory for the next 2 decades.

Great article. Personally I dislike the treatment of Kvyat, but I'm hyped as fuck for amx in RBR.

Some more based Bernie talk:
>“I don’t like it,” he said and added that he did not believe it would necessarily achieve its goal, before questioning the testing methods the devices had undergone. He asked why the sport should “try to simulate something where you have a stationary object and fire a tyre at it, when in the race when the wheel has come off normally both cars will be moving?"

On Hamilton whining about Rosberg:

>"I told him to get on with it because there are 17 races left,” Ecclestone told The Times. “It is not the end of the world. He wasn’t moaning when he was winning, was he? Lewis has to learn. He is still going to win this World Championship. I absolutely believe that.”
>>
>>67424667
>"when in the race when the wheel has come off normally both cars will be moving?"

The only difference is that the current static tests don't account for tyre rotation during the hit.
Firing a tyre at a stationary car is fine for an impact test. They don't take actual planes up to do bird impact tests on the windscreen.

The Lotus that became Caterham that then went bust, was Team Lotus. The rights to that name were bought by David Hunt (brother of James Hunt) in the 90s when the old Lotus F1 team went bust, but the actual Lotus car company was bought by some Malaysians. So when Tony Fernandes and his merry bunch decided to come into F1, they gained access from Malay Lotus to be called Lotus Racing. A couple of years down the line, Lotus called off this deal to go join with Renault, so Fernandes went off to David Hunt and bought the rights to be called Team Lotus. Lotus Cars took him to court saying that David Hunt had no right to sell that name, and that Tony had no right to use it in the automotive section and was also a wanker who breaches contracts.

Court ruled that Tony could keep using the Team Lotus name, but had to pay damages out to Lotus Cars for one reason or another. At this point he'd already bought Caterham as a backup, and decided to save the hassle by renaming the team.
>>
>>67434028
>>67433607
Oh also, no, they didn't have the same car. Two entirely different teams with no crossover. Proton is also the parent company of Lotus Cars, and I don't think they were ever that keen on spending a bunch of money on F1 - they basically got dragged into it by a shyster and got out when they could, leaving Genii holding the bag.

Kvyat has been pretty shit this season though(china was only great performance from him). In multiple qualies he didn't even get to q3 while ricciardo got there always and was only behind ferraris and merc.
I hoped he would out perform trickyricky but he has been slow as fuck.
Red bull is probably pretty horrible place to drive though and marko started to threathen him already in the middle of last season.
He should really try to get different seat for next season. Maybe if his lucky and one of force indias drivers will go somewhere else he might get okay car for next season
>>
>>67434694
he only got a podium in china because he knocked his teammate and a ferrari out of the race in the first turn
>>
>>67433607
Here's a mostly accurate tl;dr

>Green Lotus
2010: business man Tony Fernandez starts a new F1 team using the Lotus name, causing a few legal issues in the process.
2011: Fernandez officially buys the Team Lotus F1 naming rights. This is just the F1 team name, not the car company or anything to do with them.
2012: Changes the team name to Caterham after Fernandez bought Caterham cars. No longer Lotus in the least, just kept the green/yellow colors because YOLO

>Black Lotus
2011: The real Lotus company buys into the sponsor/naming rights of Renault F1, which was already vast majority ownership of the team anyways, hence still being Lotus Renault GP (ING Renault F1 in 2010 etc)
2012: Renault pretty much hands the reigns over completely to Lotus, becoming Lotus F1 Team onwards
2016: Renault buys the team back in its entirety

Would be great if they could convince Piquet Jr to be Bernie's sex-slave in exchange for based Flavio's un-banning
>>
>>67435377

>>
>>67433386
People like to predict future events and the tajectory of talents, so that they can feel knowledgeable when it turns out right. By doing so, they put their own credibility on the line, not to the outside world, but mostly to theirselves. Refraining from doing so, because you can't predict the future, sounds logical, but in a way, is also a boring move to the human mind. There is nothing wrong with that. I'm just saying, there are plenty of people who don't work that way.

And if you're going to predict, it's reasonable to state that Verstappen is one way or another a stand-out performer for someone his age. Judging by how he's done so far, it's impressive. Where that will take him, is a guess. But I think his time in F1 thus far has been impressive.

I have no problem with mad amx desu. He's white, he's dutch (guess it would be nice too have a dutch champion), he actually has talent...

I just hope Red Bull mantains shit level or goes bankrupt so he can go to a decent team.
>>
>>67435877
How did they know he'd end up in Ferrari so long before he actually did?
>>
>>67437583

At that point Sauber was pretty much Ferrari's second team in that Sauber pretty much bought everything that was legally possible at the time from Ferrari.

Also, if I remember correctly; Red Bull back then threw a fucking massive fit over Sauber hiring Kimi, instead of Enrique Bernoldi. The tantrum was big enough they sold their stake in the team "in protest".

>my face when all this time I thought Villeneuve's entire racing career turning to shit was just because of him trusting Craig Pollock but it was also Craig Pollock joining up with this asshole
http://www.grandprix.com/gpe/cref-jakjul.html

That shit was going on all the way back to the beginning of 1997 as well, which goes a ways to explain some of the nonsense going on at Williams at the time.

inb4 Hamlelton went to Mercedes just because the team could have been Senna at one time.

Jack the Villen is the only driver I can ever recall to actually self spin, running alone on-track, at Talladega (literally the easiest Nascar track, full throttle all the time, no brakes needed) in a Nascar truck, the slowest of the top series, even using a restrictor plate to knock it down to roughly 300hp.

>Scott Speed won in this truck the next year, at one of the tougher, shorter tracks on the schedule, Dover
