OK they won a champions league but that's still underachieving for such an elite side like them. they should be winning trebles or at least doubles. the same goes for arsenal, the team is decent on paper and can do with a few additions but they're still severely underachieving. this has been happening since 2002. the team won the double a few times which is expected of them anyway, nothing special. they should have a champions league medal to go with it as well. that arsenal 2002-06 were by far a top 3 team in the world and if you're that good you should be winning European trophies. SAF probably looked at that arsenal team back then and would have believed he could win the treble with it yet wenger underachieved with that team.

I've always had a lot of love for Wenger but I have to admit: it's time for him to go.
We need to be looking to hit over 80 points with some sort of regularity to really challenge for the title in this league. We've only done that once since 2005. We're very consistent at getting the kind of points tally that secures you 3rd or 4th but we're badly struggling to push beyond that under Wenger.
How much more time can you give a man who has failed to finish above 3rd for over a decade?
We're completely pedestrian in European competition too these days. Spurs have been to a CL quarter-final more recently than us.
I don't know, you can't escape this feeling of stagnation under him. We haven't had a great season on multiple fronts under Wenger in over a decade. At some point you have to try something else.

If we weren't always so unlucky with our CL opponents it could have been different. If we get a decent draw in the second round next season and qualify for the quarters, it would give us a massive boost of morale that could carry on into the league

The Scouting department being so reliant on Fergie meant United only signed one player, Fellaini, under >Moyes because Fergie took a lot of the knowledge of United's scouting database with him inside his own head, so their hands were tied for that summer. The lack of a modern academy where youth players have access to modern training methods and facilities means that the last world-class players made at Manure was the Class of 92, while across town City is opening a $500m super academy luring prospects from all over the world and your own former players have their kids enrolling there.
When one of those long-term managers who started working on the club 20 years ago retires, there's just so much shit, so many departments, so much of the club's very structure that needs to be updated, rehired, revised and rethought, it's way more complex than just apponting a new manager.

Here's something for you to discuss.
I've noticed this with Elneny as well as every other player that's transferred here in recent season. All of them come in with a history of scoring goals, many of which are from outside the box. When they first arrive, you see them taking those shots and then slowly they just don't do it anymore. It rarely happens. The only person that still does it is Alexis as he dribbles across the front of the box to bend it in to the far post. But even with him, it has dropped considerably. I get that it's a higher percentage chance from inside the box, but if your opponent knows you won't shoot from out there, it's a lot easier to pack the box with defenders to prevent you from even getting in there to try.

Welbeck's movement is terrible. It only works because he stays out of the way and doesn't try to get involved in the play like Giroud does. Which ends up working for Alexis because he just wants to cut inside and run where the striker should be.
And Ozil doesn't actually play better with Welbeck in the team, you just like to believe he does. Ozil has been poor every game Welbeck's played and his best games came when Giroud was in good form.
