if you're talking about the signings from the summer window before that season, you may be right. but that is looking at it in a very narrow way(probably just to suit your argument) and those players were mostly signed to boost their domestic appeal. all the players who were key in that campaign came from big money signings starting from mourinhos first season with them. also, the only reason that madrid team(or the ones before them for that matter) didnt win more was because they literally had to compete with barcelona for every title and pot and that sounds like hell on earth because it is exactly that.

I've been bored and scouting players on YouTube the past week or so
I have come to the conclusion that the best striker available at the moment, discounting the likes of higuain who would cost a truckload, is a russian lad by the name of Fyodor Smolov.
He's just had his breakthrough season after being on loan forever from I think dinamo Moscow. He signed for Kuban Krasnodor this season and has scored 14 goals and 9 assists. He's 26 years old, born in february
Obviously it's >the Russian league and he has only really just burst onto the scene but I think he has something special about him. He's 6'2", fast and a good dribbler with good technique. A lot of the inform strikers I have seen are either small and fast or tall and slow. Very few of them have good technique when striking a football and generally rely on their physical attributes to score goals.
The only exception I can think of to this rule is sturridge, who I would obviously prefer.
