Where will Sainz and Kvyat go?

Sainz for his "Vergne Year" in Toro - although he deserves better - or he'll displace Magnussen at Renault.

Kvyat to Williams
>>
>>67036750
Sainz stays with TR for another year.
Kvyat gets fired. If he has the sponsorship, maybe Kvyat to Manor? Russian GP will be gone in a few years with or without Kvyat because of poor ticket sales.
Kimi or Massa (maybe both) will retire after 2017.
I could see Sainz filling Massa's Williams seat or moving up to the senior Red Bull team if Ricciardo moves to Ferrari.

sainz doesn't have to go anywhere. verstappen doesn't have to go anywhere either, really.

it's almost a race for ricciardo and kvyat to stick around, if verstappen is guaranteed a promotion.

given that ricciardo and kvyat don't bring sponsorship money, they have to jump into a factory seat to stay in f1 if they are sacked by red bull.

Listen here, mate, you make your funny jokes and you laugh... but you don't know the fear.

I live in north Queensland, in a beautiful reefside coastal town. And sure, we have crocodiles - but you grow up knowing where you can swim. Yes, we have snakes - but the non-venomous ones border on friendly and the deadly ones keep their distance. They don't cause the fear.

I don't like spiders, but while I'll kill harmless though giant huntsmen, logically I know they can't hurt me. Our sandy shores host seashells with lethal harpoons and fish that look like rocks that can kill you if you stand on them - by the oceans that at times host stinging jelly fish that will kill you in minutes.

They don't cause the fear.

But sometimes, when all else seems fine, you feel it. It might be something you hear... or a fleeting glimpse of something taller than you and feathered. And that is when you know the fear. And the fear is with you by day, and the fear is with you in the dead of the night.

There is nothing more fearful than emus, mate - well except the cassowary, the special forces of the emu - but let's not give you nightmares.

There is no running away, not even abroad. Some years ago, I was holidaying in Belgium, staying with my girlfriend at the time, a Flemish girl. In between all the loud messy sex we could stand, I would sightsee, while she was at work. I went to a lovely little wildlife park in Deinze, and admired the deer, and the peacocks, and the goats. And I felt the fear. Surely not here, I thought to myself. Then I saw it, if only for a moment. I approached a keeper and asked "what is in that paddock?" and he replied "An emu, an Australian bird." The enemy had seen me. I departed, keeping wire between my nemesis and I - and it knew it. But I left not alone - I left with the fear.

A day as happy as any in my life, but even overseas the fear may find you.

Live well without it, mate - for you don't know the fear.

You got over it because he couldn't beat Vettel even if his life depended on it.
Did you see the commotion his death made here? You will never have a sports personality being that popular in your country.
>>
>>67067255

It's not a meme to underrate him, it's just that people are tired of him being depicted as the best thing since sliced bread, especially since he wasn't better than Prost by that large a degree. In fact, I'd argue that a 4 year older Prost matching Senna as closely as he did over '88-'90 should easily cement him in the top 3 of F1 GOATs, at the very least.

The """"documentary"""" makes it look like Prost was well below Senna in pace and skill, and all it took Ayrton to beat him was to get into the same car.

>>67067672

>You will never have a sports personality being that popular in your country.

We have Sachin Tendulkar (Cricket legend, widely considered at least 2nd best to have ever played, literally worshipped by a fuckton of people). Even so, we agree that Bradman (an Aussie) was better.

Popularity should not be allowed to mix with assessment of quality.

The only acceptable version of this documentary is the directors cut, which is considerably longer. Also allows Prost to actually have a say in things and generally is a lot more detailed with much longer interviews with Dennis, Prost etc. The directors cut was the first version I saw and I didn't think it was so biased. Then I watched the netflix regular cut and it does indeed portray Prost as some sort of ultra-inferior and jelly le evil driver villain.

Senna was great, one of the greatest of all time. But so was Prost. I really don't get why the filmmaker decided to go with such strong bias for the theatrical cut, because the extended director's cut, and all the footage he purposefully decided to omit makes it clear that he knew exactly what the story was, but it just didn't seemingly fit the "Senna is literally perfect" narrative.

I really can't stand how biased the film is at times. It is fully ok for Senna to try and kill Prost and win the championship because Prost did some shady shit previously. I dont even get why people use the "if you no longer go for a gap.." quote nowadays.. Senna was literally LYING when he said that. He later admitted that there was no gap and he purposefully crashed into Prost. The gap quote was just a weak defense for being grilled by Jackie Stewart. Jackie Stewart later revealed that Senna had admitted that the crash was intentional. I don't really see a reason for Stewart to lie about it but still it's only his word.

sure, he mentions racing with Senna and Schumacher a lot (who wouldn't? strange he never mentions Prost though, but I digress) but i've never heard him refer to himself anything above a middling f1 driver

as with most i think, i do really like him as a commentator, and despite him not being the strongest race caller, does anyone else miss the Brundle/DC team the BBC had for the 2011 season?

this so much. MB is actually a pretty humble guy, he jokes on many occasions that he's never won a race. The reason he talks about Senna so much is that people ask him about it. The reason he talks about Schumacher and Senna but not Prost is because he raced directly against Senna quite a bit in F3 and was MSC's teammate while he never had any real connection to Prost.

Is Force India kill?
>>
>>67090246

They should be independent of his money issues, since it's registered as a British company, and there's no evidence of him sending money from his loans into the F1 team.

At worst, the people in charge of recovering the loan money may decide to sell it off to get their money, which could provide an easy entry for any manufacturer looking to get into the sport. The team will survive, although as of now, the cash flow issues are not going to improve at all.

Plus, I've heard people reckon that Mallya may just be eligible for a British passport because of how much he's invested in their companies. So he could escape by getting a British passport.

>>
>>67090392

I don't know how you're reaching that conclusion.

I don't know how exactly rich people hide their assets, but it seems that Force India is on pretty thin ice. The dude who owns Sahara who owns 40% of Force India is in jail and has no access to his assets, or has no assets at all anymore. Mallya is literally in hiding, with an arrest warrant out on him. So if he gets "caught" or returns to India, he's going to be sent to jail. I'm kind of guessing that he either doesn't have a lot of money right now or just doesn't have access to it right now. Also I'm guessing there are several different interested parties keeping a close eye on his finances at this point.

I get that his individual money troubles are independent of Force India, but Force India isn't exactly self-sustaining. Force India won't be able to survive without the financial investments made by Mallya and the Sahara dude, both of whom seem to be in quite tricky situations right now. Granted they still have Perez Mexico money and whatever Hulkenberg might bring (probably not much) but I doubt that is enough to keep the team going for too long. Perez is likely already looking at a team change for the future. Given that he isn't a bad driver and literally beat le lemon dude last year and brings in a huge financial backing, it wouldn't be that crazy to see him make the move to e.g. Renault or Williams

>Nico Hulkenberg unironically turned down Grosjean's Haas seat in favor of staying at Force India
>>
>>67091132

I mean I guess Force India could be bought out by someone quite easily as they are ex-Jordan and are based in England. I just don't know if anyone is interested at this point. Red Bull took the Aston Martin deal and I don't know if F1 is at a lucrative and appealing enough state to encourage new manufacturers to join.

If Force India was put up for sale tomorrow, who would be the most likely buyer?

diageo apparently have mallya's shares. it could be a marketing venue for them. ferrari could be interested. i'd like ford to be interested but they appear to be concentrating on wec.
>>
>>67091132

Oh no, you misunderstand. My point wasn't that it would survive as Sahara Force India. I was simply saying that as a team, they wouldn't fold, but would probably end up changing ownership.

I'm fairly certain I did also say that their funding would be impacted, until the team manages to get sold (unless Mallya weasels out of this predicament somehow).

>>67091152

Like Ausbro said, Diageo have some kind of say in what happens to Mallya's shares. In fact, they were the ones bringing in Aston Martin, to pair up with the Johhnie Walker sponsorship, before that deal fell through.

Plus, with the Alfa Romeo rumors spreading, FI could be seen as a better option to buy than Sauber, because they seem to have better technical staff, and as of now, better drivers too.

>>67091202

I'm sorry, m8. Hopefully the team doesn't go under.
>>
>>67043263
Makes me wonder. Is HAMROSVET the most seen podium in the history of F1?
>>
>>67091376

Yeah true. I mean how often do teams actually end up completely folding anyway? Everything ends up being recycled and rebranded in one way or the other. I wonder how this will affect Force India's in season development. Probably won't be too astonishing considering how shit their car already is.

Also a complete guess and longshot, but I don't think its too impossible to think that another American team would want to join F1, especially if Haas continue to pull in decent results. Gene Haas himself has already encouraged it and what better way than to buy a struggling midfield team and rebrand it and give them some money. Someone like e.g. Penske, who are already running a Formula E team and are pretty well-off financially would seem like the ideal candidate. Maybe even bring Chevrolet in as a PU supplier eventually. I wonder how well JPM would do in F1 today. Not that it will ever happen but he seems to be pretty much on point with his driving still if yesterday's race is anything to go by. And Indycar on non-ovals really isn't a world apart from F1 race pace.

I also don't know what purpose Alfa Romeo would serve, especially as a Ferrari junior team. Ferrari doesn't need a junior team because they can get just about any driver based on muh heritage alone and they don't really need to bring drivers to F1 from the ground up as they haven't done so ever, and serves no purpose as they are automatically the 1st or 2nd most desired team for any driver regardless of how shit they might be. There are probably only about 2-3 drivers on the grid right now that Ferrari couldn't get even if they wanted to.

>>67091241

Diageo already does have a pretty considerable sponsorship going on with FI in the form of Smirnoff. I mean I don't know what else they could do exactly, and I doubt they'll put two different alcohol brands on the same car. Admittedly I don't really know anything about this deal or the company in question though.
>>
>>67091376
Sauber have great facilities and one of the best wind tunnels in the world. They're just piss poor and are lacking severely in engineer and driver talent, not to mention proper management. Would be cheaper too cinsidering how desperate they are financially. Force india will be fine for now even with jailed owners

Force India recently moved their aero to a top wind tunnel too (I think the Toyota facility in Cologne). Plus, they're located in Britain, as opposed to Sauber in fucking Switzerland. It'll always be easier to hire people for FI over Sauber because of the location issues.

I'm not trying to argue that FI will be sold for sure, but in case they are, they'd be a better buy than Sauber.

>>

>>67092257

This desu. Assuming it's something like Alfa Romeo buying out, I doubt they specifically need Sauber's wind tunnel, I would assume Ferrari has access to something similar.

The costs of running a F1 team in Switzerland and actually getting good personnel who are ok with moving to Switzerland is so high compared to having your base in England. It's just not really worth it for anyone new coming to the sport.

What did BMW do when they acquired Sauber? Did they keep it based in Switzerland or did they move it to Germany or whatever?

I just realised it should be easy to beat Luca these days.
All you have to do is drive 3 seasons without scoring a point.

I could easily see a rich backmarker doing that.
>>
>>67100438
Problem is getting a point these days is so much easier. You'd really have to do three years at Manor to end up with nothing and given their straight-line speed at the moment, even that is questionable.
>>
>>67100561
Is it, though? Back in the day there were less pointscoring positions, but there were also more retirements, so it was easier for backmarkers to luck into top 6. There's a reason why Bianchi was the only one to score points for any of the teams created in 2010.

if ferrari put him in the car in 1999 as they should have, this would not have happened.

Wasn't he close to signing for Ferrari until they went for Gimi instead.

Honestly think Hulk would do a better job, though I don't think he'll ever reach the heights people were predicting when he made his debut.

Could you beat Hamlelton 1v1 Rainbow Road 64?

doubt he was close. odd, as he did pretty fucking well in the sauber. i think he would do better in an f1 where you can push for most of te race. tyre management is his undoing. haas were after him i think.

Had that in his debut season: got utterly btfo by Rubens Barrichello

Is it true this is their claim? Apparently yes. It's it "true"? Maybe on paper but I am sure reliability issues will hamper any outright pace. Also Ferrari literally is Williams-tier at actually performing to their maximum ability. All 3 races this year they have managed to bungle something up.

who had a wealth of experience. and testing was and is limited. plus hülk was a rookie, and cars were harder to drive back then.

rosberg got btfo by webber, and he could be wdc this year.
