You linked the playoff stat, which has only been two games.
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/defense-per-game/sort/shootingEfficiencyOpponent/seasontype/2
>#1 in opponent fg%
>http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/defense-per-game/sort/fieldGoalPctOpponent
You linked the playoffs again.
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/defense-per-game/sort/shootingEfficiencyOpponent/seasontype/2
HAwks were #1 regardless though, the difference between the top 5 teams was 0.006%
>#2 in points allowed per shot

Spurs were #1

Again you linked playoff stats.

>basically every defensive metric known to man has us #1 or close to the top in everything. Only team playing on the same level defensively is San Antonio

There has been only 2 games played this post season so the advanced stats are meaningless at this point. Just stick with regular season.
>#1 in opponent adjusted fg%
No they are not.
>Only 2 teams have opponents attempt more threes against us, and we're still #4 in opponent 3pt %
Nope
>#2 in rebounds per game and #4 in rebound differential per game
No. Rebounding is the problem for ATL. They are bottom third in the league and they allow too many 2nd chance points.
>#1 in blocks per game
No
Hawks are really good defensive team but they are not the best. Spurs are way ahead of them.

IMO it's more about appreciating history.
sure the pool of talent was much more limited than today.
being a black player in the NBA back then was not exactly easy + players back then were regarded as amateurs doing a hobby; that they played so well with so little support (financial, medical, training etc) it's really impressive imo.
>>66987023
Thibbs will be really good for the pups in all seriousness though. Him and KG go back when they were both with the C's and won a ship. Both of them barking at this young team will be something.
So much young talent and KAT is something special and seems to have a great head on his shoulders.
Just hope Thibbs doesn't run them too raggard

But yeah, you just keep using your memes to hate on the greatest winner the game of basketball has ever seen, son.
>His family says Thibodeau (pronounced THIB-uh-doe) — who inspired his mother and her friends, a group of women in their 70s and 80s, to invest in the N.B.A. League Pass television package and swear at officials working Bulls games — is not the drone they watch at news conferences, not a recluse who spends his days in a basement studying game tape in his pajamas.
>They connect with him on most days, even if they rarely see him, at least in person. His family understood when, over the years, he missed weddings, funerals, baptisms and birthday parties. He came home in late November during the N.B.A. lockout and took part in a family holiday for the first time in 20 years.
>Thibodeau was engaged once. He was in graduate school, an assistant at his alma mater, Salem State. Her name was Debbie, one of two Debbies that college teammates said he dated simultaneously, D1 and D2 at first for short.
>They canceled the wedding about six weeks out, and Thibodeau’s mother made him return what gifts the couple had received. Reasons for the engagement’s end varied, but John Galaris, Thibodeau’s boss and the athletic director at Salem State, said Thibodeau told him, “There’s no room in my life for a woman if I’m going to be a basketball coach.”
>Dennis Grube, a college roommate, added: “Tommy was devastated. That entrenched him so much into his devotion to basketball. It took his mind off it.”

Pop is "arrogant" as well.
I'm using quotations because i think people get arrogance mixed up with the mentality of a team that truly believes from 1-12, the coaching staff, trainers and front office that they have no doubt in their minds they are the best and can beat any other team on any day.
If you seriously believe that the entire Spurs organization don't have that same mentality just because Timmy, Kawhi, Manu and the rest are quiet, reserved dudes who are "just happy to be here and competing with all these other great players!" You are sorely mistaken.

DRose was playing much better towards the end of the season. Remember he had double vision for a couple of months too.
I also think its pretty fucking shitty how Bulls fans talk about him now given how fucking good he was before his injuries. Like people talk shit about him as if he intentionally set out to tear his ACL and everything else. He was just 23 when it happened. Coming off an mvp season and the best record in the league (62-20). Of course the Bulls signed him to a max 5 year extension. Who wouldn't have?
Now you all say he's a cancer and treat him like a red headed step child.
Fucking disgusting really. Brandon Roy, Yao, TMac, Grant Hill etc all had their injuries. You didnt see anyone calling for their heads. Hell Look at Bosh. Blood clots in his lungs. Kept him out for last years playoffs and most of this season... Don't hear anyone calling for his head.
Rose will never be his former self, and that sucks for everyone. Not just Bulls fans, but for all of basketball. Kid was special man and didnt even hit his prime.

Parking Love in the corner pockets to just be a spot up shooter was always such a baffling decision to me. Sure, the reasoning was to open up the lane for LeBron and Kyrie to drive.... but damn near every play?
He has a post game, good passer for a big (one of the best outlet passers in the league) and we all know he can rebound. His D will never be anything special.
If they wanted Ryan Anderson, why didn't they just trade for Ryan Anderson and a whole lot more with that #1 pick. Because that is essentially what they are doing with KLove. An Expensive Ryan Anderson.
>>66988594
Doesn't fit into my calories for the day
>>66988760
desu it should be Love #1 and Kyrie #2 while LeBron does his best Draymond impersonation until the 4th quarter. It's time for him to start maximizing the talents of his superstar casts instead of making them be the ones to get pigeonholed into minor roles.

I've been a twolves fan since i was a kid and first got into basketball... This was when Christian Laettner was a rookie... showing my age here... but every other kid in Australia who played ball liked either Bulls, Suns, Magic or Hornets (for some reason Hornets gear was for sale everywhere in Sydney at the time).
I liked Wolves and wanted to be different so i decided they would be my team.... Just like a dumb kid who starts smoking cigarettes to be "cool"... Here i am. Like an abused wife that won't leave her spouse... I could have easily switched teams. I'm Australian, i have no ties to anywhere in the USA.... but i remained.
I'm excited about Thibs coming. KG and Thibs barking at these young kids. Instilling a work ethic and a defensive philosophy. Pushing KAT, Wiggins to become great. Getting Bazz remind everyone why he was #1 high schooler. Giving Lavine the keys to the point. Confidence in Rubio on offence.... all that....
...but then i remember they are the TWolves and Wiggins will tear his ACL, KAT will break his feet and injure his shoulder. Rubio will shoot 29%, Lavine will ded too. The front office will fuck up and lose their picks for a few years and no FA will come to Minnesota because it's Minnesota and in 20 years they will still give Tayshaun Prince meaningful minutes.

Never was entirely sure looking back. At a average large department store the only teams were generally Bulls (MJ/Pippen first 3peat), Suns (Barkley), Magic (Shaq was a rookie and actually well known here, his reebok "dont fake the funk on a nasty dunk" ad i remember being shown during prime time - as well as MJ gatorade "be like mike" and Mj's Hanes too)
...And Charlotte Hornets. They had LJ and 'Zo at the time, yet those were the teams that you saw in the shops. I remember LJs granmama commercial being shown here but only on the weekly basketball show.
No idea why, LJ, Alonzo, Muggsy, Gill and daddy Curry did knock Boston out in the first round. and were a young team.... but no one here saw those games. We got 1 or 2 games a week televised (no cable at the time in Aus either) and the games were 70% Bulls, 25% Magic and the rest were Suns or Knicks (yet no knick gear).
I was lucky enough that my dad has some business friends in the states and they would send over vhs tapes full of nba and college games.

Seriously there's no way CP3 gets past Magic even with some rings, unless in some weird universe CP3 all of a sudden wins 4+ ships as the #1 guy/leader. Which ain't happening.
Isiah Thomas is probably who CP3 is best compared to anyhow.

>>66992744
nah he's an athletic freak, and that athleticism has put as a top big man. The talent is definitely there.
The problem is he can't post up, can't read the double team, and seems undisciplined from time to time.
If he truly cared more he'd be a great PF.
>>66992835
fuck me time flies. But yeah must have been two seasons ago.
>Chris Paul potentially better than Magic
wew lad, with the way Curry has been playing CP3 won't even be remembered as the best PG of his era
>>66992806
Blake shines as a playmaker, people say he has no post game but really he is the best player at driving and playmaking from the post in the league. He really just needs a ballhandler that can shoot at PG and not a playmaker.
>>66992835
he should have won memevp that year rose won it. either him or lebron, surely not fucking rose.
>>66992869
I'm hoping people don't forget about back to back seasons of 21/11/2.5stl, 3 straight years of 19/10 and 9 straight seasons of 9 assists per game
Also he should have won 1 MVP
>>66992932
2011 was one if his worst statistical years and the Hornets barely made the play offs.
He should have won in 2008 when he was averaging something like 23/6/11 with 3 steals and led his team to the 2nd seed in the West
>>66992847
He has some good handles for a big though. But you are 100% correct about him. Problem is though they have Jordan camping the paint for boards, lobs, putbacks and pretty much everyone else are 3pt shooters and CP3 is in control of the offence. so Blake has turned more and more into an elbow shooter even though he still gets his dunks and what not.
And this isn't a slight against Paul or anything. I just honestly believe they would be better off on different teams.
>>66992927
THIS!

Even if you take the insane pace he played into consideration he had incredible stats
For example, his 4000 points season
(4029 / (131.3/95.8(league average this season)))/80 = 36.75 ppg with 18.77 rpg
But when you take the fact he played 48.5 minutes per game, you get where the numbers come from (not that it should be taken from him, great fitness)
pts / games / (pace / this season's average pace) / ((minutes / games) / 36)
4029 / 80 / (131.1/95.8) / ((3882 / 80)/36) = 27.3 points when standardized by both pace and minutes (not accurate since we assume the pace was the same with him and without him, though he was basically on the entire game)
If we apply the same calculations for let's say Curry
2375 / 79 / (99.3/95.8) / ((2700 / 79)/36) = 30.55 points

By the logic we're following Curry is better than Magic too

Kobe was having a monster year though and led the Lakers to the #1 seed and the chip.

>By the logic we're following Curry is better than Magic too
Not really, in 20 years accolades will be what matters the most and Magic has 5 championships, 3 FMVPs and 3 regular season MVPs all in what was probably the toughest era in NBA history while being one of the most iconic players ever. Curry will have an insanely hard time matching this.
>>66993128
>Paul's best chances of winning MVP were with the Cloppers.
When though? in 11/12 and 12/13 Lebron was on a completely different level then in 13/14 Durant had this monster season and it's been all Curry in the last 2 seasons.
He was more of a constant top 5 candidate without ever having a year that would deserve winning on the Clippers
>>66993185
I'm on it
>>66993221
Come on, if curry keeps doing what he's doing now for another 4 or 5 years we have to look at his peak as some of the best pg play ever
>>66993195
idk why people like to meme and praise those old fucking eras. 80s is when basketball took a major fucking jump in skill level and started to be high level.
>>66992927
Honestly a talent like him should be able to adjust his game according to personnel, especially if you have a top tier PG and a beast defender/rebounder at Center.
He should be dominating the game from the low post and bullying people until no tomorrow. Then when the double team comes in can he showcase his playmaking abilities. That all comes when you learn to post up.
But even w/o all that he's still a top player, so I honestly he just doesn't give a shit.
>>66993221
I agree
But current Curry >> any Magic ever and arguably any player ever
>>66993195

>>66993265
>Come on, if curry keeps doing what he's doing now for another 4 or 5 years we have to look at his peak as some of the best pg play ever
I agree, I just think that to be remembered as the best PG ever he's going to need a shitload more championships and FMVPs.
>>66993302
>btw, look at Jordan videos, defenses were shitty back then too
rules were shitty back then t bh. no double teaming, no 5 second back to basket rule.

i was playing devil's advocate because the guy i quoted said Oscars numbers were inflated... So i brought up Wilt.
Anyhow... the numbers you posted. Wilt's and Currys..... I mean... how can you even compare them side by side. One was a 7-1 athletic, strong center and the other is a 6'3 point guard with handles and shooting that is just so stupid that no one even bats an eye when he launches from 35 feet
and thats before you even get into the eras they play(ed) in.
Today is a perimeter/guard orientated league that is heavy and screens, drives, kick out 3s
Wilt's era didn't have 3pt line for starters and was more about inside game of bigs. Pace was much faster and FG% was much much lower than today (hence the huge rebound numbers).
Can you or me or anyone truly say who was better, Wilt or Curry? Even if we raised Wilt from the grave at his prime and he and Curry played 1v1, who would win? and more to the point, who cares? It's still no proof of who's better.
Most of the top 10 lists all pretty much say the same names.
Anyone who knows the sport could list the top 25 players of all time in no particular order and apart from a couple of names here and there, most people would agree with the names listed.
I had all this hype going into the off season for the sixers but after all this stuff has come out like the colangelos didn't want the job at all, they forced Hinkie out and they are gonna get some shitty players on the team so they win 20-30 more games and either just miss the playoffs or get in as an 8 or 7 seed like they were before they started all this.
Fuck im so pissed they killed all my hope for the team. It makes the last 4 seasons even more of a waste of time as absolutely nothing will come of it. Its to the point im now hoping Embiid never plays because ownership doesn't deserve him.
>>66993447
>Anyone who knows the sport could list the top 25 players of all time
Kind of a related question. Do you guys think Curry and Durant are top 25 players?
I think that Curry is and will be a top 20 lock if they win a chip this season while Durant is borderline
>>66993488
>wahhh stop discussing basketball in the basketball thread
Believe it or not, once upon a time people actually had real discussions in these threads.
other than being repetitive and pointless as fuck these mount rushmore discussions kinda distort the whole NBA experience imho. yeah these guys are all great, they're the top one-tenth of a percent to ever play the game, but there's exciting guys outside those lists, you know.

>>66993537
I also think they're just pointless to discuss because the game is different and the players are different and everything. The change in pace is a huge reason why it makes no sense to argue this kind of stuff

there are way too many factors to directly compare players

>>66993532
Honestly? I actually would put Curry in there though it pains me to say, he is the best shooter the game has ever seen, about to win a second mvp on a 73-9 team that seriously will most likely win a ship again, barring any injuries of course.
I really hate to say it because fuck Curry... He would be one of my last picks for top 25... and i'm probably also judging him on the next few years.... but...
Durant i can't say.
Let me come up with my list for 25 all time
>>66993532
Curry's now had the best season of either player, but KD has like 5 seasons that were significantly better than Curry's second-best and they're the same age. If you ignore awards and just focus on on-court impact, KD has had far and away the better career thus far. So it really comes down to how much emphasis you place on absolute peak and media awards. Personally I would still place Durant over him, but one more season of Curry producing at this level and the GSW core staying together a few more seasons for deep playoff runs would tip the scale pretty decisively.

If only it was. I'm running a Mint VM on a Windows host with VirtualBox. Basic OS installs and runs fine, no problems. Once I start adding programs I like and useful utilities, the list just gets too big and hard to parse for a non-CS guy. The base OS packages are all listed with the user-installed stuff, not enough categories to group them all by in the update manager. Oh yeah, keeping up with versions and dependencies (which seems to just add bloat) takes extra time, especially when the package you need has a name that's 1 character different from an unrelated package.
For an OS that's becoming more and more useful (and hopefully for gaming and as a Windows replacement), this is kind of a big thing to leave unimproved.

Saw the first five minutes. I can tell you right now the person who made this video is being extremely nitpicky and being pissy about commercials.
Jordan is cemented as the GOAT not just by his stats, but his nature as someone who wanted to win and compete until the very end, and did whatever it took. Other basketball players experienced that tenacity, and fans were so enamored by it that they would emulate him as best they could. Hence the legend of Kobe and his legacy.
Players also saw him as the one player they could never beat, and his stories of him trash-talking and his big games solidified that. He was considered the GOAT out of fear that he would whip your ass on the court and drop 30+ on you, just because he can and that you were beneath him.

>>66994228
Well thats just it, but i dont think it was a lack of will or ability for KG. He had the ability and as for the will, he had the will and mentality and IQ but it was too bi-polar and not controlled. And this is where i believe coaching comes into play. What if KG played for Pop in this "what if we switch Timmy/KG". Flip was a decent coach and McHale was in the FO as well. Both had a huge impact on KG but neither are close to Pop's level. Could Pop have helped KG getting that extra 10% and helped him harness his emotions?
PErsonally i think KG could have been better than Timmy.
Defensively - i'd put them almost equal
Passing - KG was better
Athleticism - KG of course
Scoring - Big Fundamental in the post, KG had more range and good handles for a big and could drive better. That's where they differ the most.
Rebounding - edge to KG
IIQ - Timmy, but is that because he did 4 years at college then came into a team coached by Pop with a veteran lineup vs KG going straight from high school to... well... minnie...
