the Ubermensch/Leo da Vinci thing is really hardcore; I would actually give it a try only if I wanted really badly to save as much time as possible to do something really big- like have a full time job and write a book at the same time...

2/10 hrs is just an average, I have gone for the Piraha approach when you basically sleep whenever you feel like it; first few weeks you feel awkward but then it's OK. In my case it makes me feel way more relaxed.
>>
>>66892535
My sleeping has always been erratic, so I thought polyphasic sleeping would help.

After going to university and having playoffs during exam season, I realised that I'm just nocturnal instead.

>>66892435
it's perfectly healthy once you get past the first few weeks, sleeping in phases means that you only get the important bits of sleep you need (and there's a theory that humans are naturally biphasic sleepers), military manuals will advise sleeping like this in situations where you won't get much at all

>Young was also accused of sexual harassment last month—along with another very promising young player, Jordan Clarkson, whom one assumes Swaggy was also mentoring—and few in the team or in the media seemed to notice or care.
Gotta take issue with this part at the very least. It's common knowledge at this point that the lady knew exactly who they were, had interviewed Nick Young before, and had proceeded to lie in order to create controversy for her sexual harassment athlete program. The charges were nonsense, which is why it went nowhere.

> ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith—the same Stephen A. Smith who was suspended from ESPN for blaming battered women for “provoking” male violence
And there they go again. All he said in his remark was, in essence, "protect yourselves, because punishing criminals doesn't change the fact that there was already a victim".

>This isn’t analysis. It’s codified, well-compensated misogyny.
>misogyny
I'm not fond of the term, but this is "SJW" journalism at its finest. His core point about Russell being young and making a mistake is fine, there's nothing wrong with believing he should be confronted in a quieter manner, and it's fine to take issue with "bro code" itself, but it's buried under paragraph after paragraph of derivative garbage.

I can't stand writers like that.
>>
>>66892348
No interviews yet to my knowledge, but the usual names have been coming up. McHale, Jackson, Vinny Del Negro, Thibs, Brooks, etc. I figure they'll take someone safe and established this time.
>>
>>66892660
I think thibs could provide structure that cousins needs
>>
>>66892640
>shit, someone who actually reads articles not just the title

i dont like the SJW style either

and you might be right that Young is treated unfairly in the article- I just dont know enough about this

but for me the important issue is that this; Russell is the best asset LAL has right now. It would be a very bad move on the front office's part to penalize him (in any way) for this. Unless they land another big prospect in this year's draft, Russell is their building block for the foreseeable future. And esp. now that Kobe has retired, I expect him to literally become the team leader starting next season.

>It would be a very bad move on the front office's part to penalize him (in any way) for this.
Agreed. It's a rough situation though. If you don't discipline him, you end up with a diva. If you discipline him to much, you delay his rise to being The Guy. I think they did an okay job handling it and, unpopular as it may be, Byron Scott is exactly the guy to get him where he needs to be mentally.

Hopefully this ends up being a good experience for him. Shitty as it may feel, you need to grow up fast if you're gonna be a star in LA.
>>
>>66894041
Longer you wait the harder it gets. Even if you can only spare like 15-30 minutes a day, it's worth picking up a textbook and trying to make some progress. If you spoke it as a kid, I bet you'll make progress faster than you think.

On top of my head, I cannot think of *any* other championship team without a top-5 draft as one of its 3 best players.

>2004 Pistons: Billups

Most other teams (LAL and BOS in the 80s for example, MIA more recently) had multiple top picks as starters.

It's p amazing what GSW achieved in these terms.

what is best apart from how well or poorly a player matches up against competition? i mean a curry/thompson/green backcourt isn't invincible, any one of them could be the target of a mismatch with 800 players to choose from. i dunno, i think the way some teams are built & play (Spurs, Gs, Hawks, Cs) are more than the sum of their parts that transcends the spotcheck analysis you're running.

Basketball doesn't have as much breaks as other sports, like NFL.
Only happens during breaks in the game, like timeouts, and all the action is shown.
I'm fine with NBA's commercials.

No, timeouts are almost always fully used because it gives your team time to rest and not run almost continuously.

There's zero reason not to use all your timeouts in a game. Stagger them throughout the game and make sure your guys get their rest and a play to guarantee a score, save the last one for a possible fuck up in the last seconds. Done.

>basketball isn't a team sport

>>66899902
the issue is that these timeouts are mandatory and taken by the officials at certain pre-set times

>There must be two 100-second timeouts in the first and third periods and three 100-second timeouts in the second and fourth periods. If neither team has taken a timeout prior to 5:59 of the first or third period, it shall
be mandatory for the Official Scorer to take it at the first dead ball and charge it to the home team. If no subsequent timeouts are taken prior to 2:59, it shall be mandatory for the Official Scorer to take it and charge it to the team not previously charged. If neither team has taken a timeout prior to 8:59 of the second or fourth period, a mandatory timeout will be called by the Official Scorer and charged to neither team. If there are no subsequent timeouts taken prior to 5:59, it shall be mandatory for the Official Scorer to take it at the first dead ball and charge it to the home team. If no subsequent timeouts are taken prior to 2:59, it shall be mandatory for the Official Scorer to take it and charge it to the team not previously charged. The Official Scorer shall notify a team when it has been charged with a mandatory timeout. Any additional timeouts in a period beyond those which are mandatory shall be 60 seconds.

they're not at the coach's disposal. these are media timeouts to maximize commercial appeal. basketball certainly isn't as bad as football in this regard, but what's the point in denying this is what it is?

It is at the coaches disposal as they can decide when it is and isn't taken still. But regardless of any TV deal they would have taken the timeout. It's part of the game and you see it in all levels of basketball, including ones that do not have TV deals or are even broadcasted.
It's a essential part of coaching basketball. The timeout is the coaches biggest weapon during a game.

The only reason that is a thing is because the TV deal only came into existence BECAUSE basketball was already doing this with timeouts.

It's the same reason why people take so long to take foul shots. They're intentionally delaying the game as much as possible to allow their teammates to take a standing rest.
Basketball is a continuous sprint back and forth and there is no rest in between because you now have to play hard on defense or offense.

One of the reasons some players don't even play defense is because they're focusing their energy on offense. This is one of the cheap ways of using the game and one that Harden is heavily criticized for along with his abuse of tricking refs and abusing the fouling system.

look you can rationalize it all you want and i agree with basically anything in your post that is unrelated to the argument (which is the bulk of the post), but if a coach hasn't taken his timeouts within the designated periods, the officials will take them and dock them a TO so they can cut to the ads. again, other sports have it worse, but this is clearly commercially motivated. and there's literally nothing wrong with acknowledging it.

the games aren't the ad-free sanctuaries people feel the need to defend from the onslaught of 2.5 by 2.5 patches.

Idiot, the game has changed so rebounds are farther from the basket due to three point shots.

The ball bounces from the basket with greater force due to a missed three point shot than a two point shot. And in Jordan's era you needed to get closer to the basket for a rebound than today's game where you see guards getting rebounds more than PF these days who are banished to the three point line as a stretch 4.

One of the reasons Rodman's career fell off after his Bulls days because the game was changing towards that.
>>

the think with FZ is that he was super ambitious, which often back fired.

For instance, some of his orchestral work is borderline crap. Sounds like a geek who keeps trying to impress others.
