"can barely play the position" isn't particularly straightforward. if he has the right attributes for it and just lacks positional familiarity, he'd probably jump up to 1st choice immediately. if he's a great player who really doesn't suit the role (eg. a powerful, fast, but technically/creatively limited winger with some ability at striker that you're trying to use as a trequartista), then he'd be bottom of my list.
