Well when I just turned 18, I got a BV account and was an absolute top class mug. Not even soccerway tier, full on "I've heard if this team, they must be good, add them to the accy" tier. After losing a few tenners on that, I decided a system was the way forward. After a few weeks of losing money on all sorts of "systems" with betting on goals, corners, cards in-play, I realised it wasnt getting anywhere.
I then was of the thinking "teams just want to win, why bet on anything else?". This was when I because top soccerway warrior. I would look through nearly every game on soccerway, pick the teams I was most sure would win, then stick them all in doubles or trebles. While I was doing this, I noticed some teams would win by 3 or 4 while others would draw, losing the double/treble. I started betting on handicaps, but obviously this was still -EV lotto shite. I began to "blacklist" leagues I noticed were consistently bad but I still didnt make money. I then had my first shrewd thought: "Bookies know more about the top leagues than they do the lower leagues".
I started to focus soccerway-warrior-ing just shite leagues like Latvia while still looking through and making doubles as before.
Then I noticed that my bets would lose, despite being so "safe" because a player had been missing. This was basically when it clicked - a team against a weaker side will do better than the bookies expect.
Obviously it took a while to find out news sources for myself but I began to make some headway. After a while of doing this, I began to get a decent following on twitter. (I had tried to be an affiliate shill but realised everyone had a bet365 account and hardly wanted anything else. I still have lots of affiliate accounts but with 0 sign ups.)

There was a long time I was in contact with a now-dead account called @BetStallion (never found out his real name. Might have been Alex but idk). He had a website but wasnt posting on it because he had abad run and didnt want to be seen to be posting shit tips. He had been around for longer than me and knew more than me. We talked every day for a number of months. He would give me decent tips, taught me about watching market movement in dodgy leagues, etc. He was also talking to @InsideInfoNL (aka Noud). Noud had set up a FB group and was trying to go paid but it wasnt working out because twitter is just full of leeches who wont pay for tips. @BetStallion was giving him his best tips for the first while in exchange for money but then he stopped. Apparently Noud was then contacted by some "syndicate" (not a real one but just a group of shrewdies) and joined them - despite his best bets coming from betting__stallion. Noud then posted this bet. Me, JWest, and others all sent him abuse for ruining the line. I then got a message from @BetStallion asking if it was me sending him abuse, I said no, he said I shouldnt have lied and unfollowed me then soon after his account was deleted. He had been planning to rebrand and relunch but never did. I know he was in Lux or at least aware of it so probs in PGA and pretty sure he would have browsed here at some point.
Anyway, I have went from a literal penny punting slug, to teaching myself a lot, then being helped, to being a proper shrewdie.
I worked in 1st and 2nd year of uni for £6.50 an hour, 8 hours a weekend while also trying to be half shrewd but I ended up missing so many bets. Towards the end, my bankroll was getting big enough to live off of, combined with my student loan.
