Anyone here going to train their kid to be the most goat kicker in existence? Making over 1mill per year to sit on a bench and kick a ball a few times a game? Sounds like a perfectly viable retirement option for me. Don't shoot too high for the stars and do something no other parents try to do. Get him at the age of 3-4 kicking field goals. Teach him how it's the most important position and how field goals and extra points can decide a game.
Enough years of training and repetition and I'm sure he'll be able to kick a 50 yard fg 90% of the time.

People in the NFL/FBS are just too fast. I ran varsity track in high school, and was all district in hurdles and high jump, with a 100 time of about 11.5 seconds. I've always thought that was pretty speedy, but I looked it up, and an 11.5 100 turns into about a 4.7 40 yard dash, which is ass

it's honestly not as easy a position to get into the NFL as you'd think. because great college kickers can be found anywhere and not just in top P5 schools, the supply of talent is huge. it has relatively low demand though, because teams only keep ONE of them on their 53-man roster and the stable ones have careers that can last 20 years, leading to very few openings. throw in the free agent kickers that are still around but competing for jobs with new guys out of college, and that means there's tons of competition every year for just a scant few spots in the entire NFL. so, if your kid actually has the talent to make it pro, he's got a better chance of making it there in a non-kicking position than with a kicker or punter.

honestly being able to run a 5 second 40 is pretty impressive for most people in general, and worthy of being considered a fast runner. like 98% or so of people you ever meet won't be able to run it in 5 seconds, most of them not even close. even if someone is generally athletic, they probably might not even break 6 seconds unless they've specifically trained that way in a sport-intensive environment. that puts some perspective on linemen that people poke fun at being fat, but can run 40 yards a lot faster than they can.

Yeah, camp would help. The disadvantage you would be at would be competing with players who had grown up playing their whole lives. The best thing you can do to close that experience gap is to just go play any chance you get. Every snap you can get for yourself gives you the chance to learn. And don't be discouraged by failure. Had a British friend in college who walked on. He was a good athlete, basketball background, but he quit after a month because he got frustrated with how behind he was in experience. Could've been a good player if he'd stuck with it.

You should go for it man, life's too short for regrets. Worst that can happen is you don't get a scholarship and you go back home and keep playing for fun in Europe and you have a cool story to tell. Hell, I heard about a school that's recruiting a QB from fucking Poland of all places.
Practice every chance you get, and study, too. Talk to any coaches who seem like they know their stuff and watch videos of coaching seminars on YT. You don't have to try to learn every detail at once, but exposing yourself to it will allow more info to sink in over time.

I started boxing at 14, then started waterskiing then wakeboarding at 7. Was a late bloomer. I'm 5'11 175-180. Pretty good shape still. I'd show a picture but no one ever believes it's me. Around 9-11 percent body fat still.
Anyways hit 5'9 at 17 went out for track for college applications . Ran 200 and 400. Made states in the 400. Football coach saw how I was built and cussed me out not for trying out. Had me run a 40 on a fast track, ran a 4.50-4.60 at 5'9 170. Grew another 2 inches between 17 and 24. The most I've weighed was around 195 when I was modeling nude. Built like gsp that was about a 2 years ago.
