I had the same issue because I didn't want to lose money gambling
I started small playing around with $10-20 meme bets while I figured out what I was doing. I initially deposited $50 and my rule was that if I lost it all I'd stop. I got down to my last $17 but then had a decent winning streak and since then I've been profitable and I just got into four figures.
Basically as I've been winning I keep increasing the amount I bet (but never more than 25% of my roll in one bet). I've reconciled betting larger amounts in my mind by the logic that even if I have a horror run of 5-6 losses in a row and lose everything, I still haven't lost any money gambling because that just means I'm back to square one (I've also withdrawn about $300 so I'd technically be $300 ahead of I lost everything right now).
But the key to winning is to find something you know alot about. You're only going to be profitable if you can beat the odds. And the number one rule is ALWAYS back your bet. I've missed out on quite a few winners because I chickened out of a bet I was originally intending to place. I don't mind losing a bet, it happens. But I get pissed off if I miss a bet I was going to put money on.
