Not sure if they've fixed it yet but I sort of commented the same during beta. Didn't screencap it but there was a point over halfway through the season where there had been literally either 0 or 1 goal in the entire 18 team league from direct free kicks. I mean they are rarer than most people think but seems way too low so I do get the feeling free kicks are a bit broken this edition and you're best telling your takers to aim for best header or whatever rather than shoot.

Legally the old parma is just a book filled with debts into a closet in a juror's courtroom.
The new parma has a similar name and got to pay for the insigna or flag.

It's a post from a SI Developer, that he quotes, talking about issues when pushed back heavily. You still can defend well in 15 AND 14. Personally i don't see how FM15 had been any worse in this, on the contrary i felt that break-football, was much more efficient than before. I used it quite a bit in a PSV World League-save.
Anyway, as you can read it is supposed to have vastly improved in FM16, and the results of OP seem to prove that.
If you want to learn how to not be a tactic-pleb, who has to go back to older FM version because they are more arcade-y, i recommend you the new Tactic-guide of guidetofootballmanager, it's fantastic.
