After this season he's starting to lose his edge. Meanwhile, Baylor and the Oklahoma schools are looking more appealing to Texas recruits right now. At least A&M is still above Arkansas, Texas, TCU, and Tech.

Committee don't give a shit about "jumping" in the slightest. They start with a blank slate each week and rightfully dropped TCU 3 spots for the last poll last year.

I'm so sick and fucking tired hearing about Alabama's loss.
They turned the ball over FIVE times. 24 of Ole Miss 43 points came off of turnovers. The average starting field position on the first four scores off turnovers was the Alabama 23. Then you have a blown play turned into a ~70yd touchdown because of luck. Yet people want to delude themselves into thinking that Ole Miss was the better team instead of the reality that Alabama just straight up lost that game. Alabama actually outgained Ole Miss after turning the ball over 5 times. Without those turnovers and a luck TD, the score is fucking 37-12 if Alabama doesn't score on the 5 possessions they lost.

If A&M finish of the season 1-2 which is feasible because LSU always beats aggy and Vamderbilt has a legit defense that could easily shut down A&M's shitty offense.
If this happened Sumlin is gone. 4 seasons each worse then the previous.
There has been no player development with his upperclassmen.
Sumlin was lucky to find himself in a situation a Houston with Art Briles leftovers and Case Keenum at QB.
When he got to A&M he was lucky to have Mike Sherman's OL recruits and Manziel. His entire career was built on others work and now he is being exposed as a fraud.

Here's the thing - because he's kept winning bowl games he gets off light. He nabbed a monster hire with Chavis so that should keep Sumlin in for at least next season. But I'd be very surprised if Spav was in College Station come 2016.
Look at Oklahoma - they got humiliated last year and Castiglione told Stoops to fix his staff or he'd do it, including Mike. That's why Bob fired all the offensive staff. But even then Mike is on the hot seat and if OU shits the bed again then Mike's fired and Bob's on the hot seat next season. THAT's why OU has made such tremendous strides compared to last year - the staff was told to sink or swim. Until Sumlin gets that treatment the Aggies are going to be forever 8-5.

USC rank 8, now 6-3 and unranked

I could find more of teams being ranked after winning a game against a ranked opponent and then losing games. Ranks before Week 10 are largely meaningless. Teams will be overrated, teams will be underrated. That goes for every conference.
I'm an Alabamafag. I agree that the SEC does get hyped up. The thing is, the SEC won enough times in the recent past to deserve it. That being said, the SEC is now on par, if not worse, than most other conferences. That partial favor is dissipating and will be gone within the coming years, depending on how well the SEC does in bowl games from here on out.
There's only 4 SEC teams in the top 25. This time last year there was 3 SEC teams in the top 5 and and 6 teams in the top 20.

because someone initially drew a parallel between this year's alabama and last year's OSU. And Alabama is currently ahead of undefeated p5s. I don't think it's a huge deal because it should all get sorted in the next month. Only time there were 4 SEC teams in the top 10 this year was week 7.
3 of those SEC teams were 3 of 12 undefeated P5 teams. The only undefeated teams that weren't in the top 10 were OK State, FSU, and Iowa.
OK State started out the season against 3 FCS teams and their best win by week 7 came against a KState team that had also played 3 FCS teams to start the season.
FSU started the season against 2 FCS teams and their best win by week 7 came against a 1 loss Miami team.
Iowa is Iowa and hasn't played anybody all year long.
If you want to get a jump in the polls early in the year, which will help you stay in polls later in the year if you do lose, you need to schedule a good first or second game.
Alabama played #20 Wisconsin. LSU's second game was against #25 Miss St. Florida's ranking came from beating #3 Ole Miss who had beaten #2 Alabama a week before.

>>63451581
What needs to happen is
1. They need to win out and Baylor looks like the biggest hurdle.
2. Notre Dame has to lose. Most likely to Stanford
3. Stanford needs to lose to anyone but Notre Dame
A. Alternatively, Clemson and UNC both need to lose before they face each other at the ACC ship, then either ND or Stanford can win out and OU should be fine
B. Same story but Bama has to lose the Iron Bowl then go on to win the SEC ship.
Assuming win-outs, the current order goes Clemson > Bama > Ohio State > Notre Dame > Stanford > Oklahoma

I don't even know where to start. It would destroy the football program for years. It would look insanely bad to kick student-athletes out for exercising their right to protest a situation that many people in the school and around the state and the country perceive to be a serious problem. and the school is hardly in solidarity against the protesters - it's looking much more likely that the prez will lose his job
>>63451624
i'm not mad. the past 3 years have shown that such lines of thought are highly flawed.
>>63451707
>Let them boycott the final games. They keep their scholarship for the year.
>Come next year, if they refuse to play, they lose their scholarship and their position on the team.

>>63451744
you've addressed, uh, nothing. just sort of drawn things out a little bit
>>63451752
M8, the solution is to literally do nothing and let the NCAA sort it out/be the bad guy
>>63451707
Thats not true at all. The protestors are pretty well-loathed by everyone outside of the worst of sjws. Although I am starting to worry the powers that be may soon give in and fire Wolfe
>>63451752
By allowing them to boycott and keep their scholarship, you're not "supporting" the racism. If you were to take away their scholarships and kick them off the team, you'd be supporting the nigger shouters in the eyes of the retarded public.
By rescinding their scholarships the next year, you're not supporting the big bad racists but you're also not letting a bunch of students push you around.
Also, there's literally no winning in this situation.
>>63451707
OK then here's the alternative.
You can't field a football team for your final 2 or 3 games, whatever it is. You have to refund tickets and everything else for those games. TV networks who were going to carry the game now have no game, and the advertisements which were bought in that game have to be paid back or partially refunded. So then the SEC has to reimburse the TV network since the SEC didn't uphold their end of the deal to provide a game. So then Missouri loses a big cut of their SEC TV money and revenue sharing since the SEC had to pay their bills for not fielding a team. So then the Missouri athletic department loses a fuckton of money, money which funds literally all of their other sports programs. While they could operate in the red for a year, the long term effects from downsizing all of those programs would be felt long term.
All because some ppl got mad over a swastika made out of poop.
An athletic scholarship is a written agreement to play a sport for tuition and other expenses, assuming you're physically able to do so. By voluntarily sitting out you are forfeiting your end of the agreement and the scholarship is void.
>>63451707
>to kick student-athletes out for exercising their right to protest
They would not be kicked out in that scenario. They would have their football scholarships revoked since they refuse to play football. At that point, they can pay for their own education or leave. Nobody is forcing them to do anything. If someone was on an academic scholarship and they decided to protest by not going to class, their grades would tank and their scholarship would get taken away.
>>63451785
if that were true why would there be any danger of them giving in? and numerous alumni, missouri legislators etc have come out in the last couple of days in support of the protestors
>>63451776
the NCAA isn't gonna touch this with a ten foot pole
>>63451793
Missouri would be better off having open tryouts and fielding a team of walkons to uphold their end of the TV agreement if it comes to that.
It would probably be the greatest television ever.
>>63451801
Exactly. If they outright REFUSE to play football, why would the school let them keep a football scholarship? Their free education is entirely contingent on their participation in the football program.
>>63451793
wait so... you're arguing that the scholarships should be taken away, by giving a long list of bad things that will happen if the scholarships are taken away?
>>63451801
by "kicking out" i meant taking away scholarships
>>63451788
i think it would be pretty obvious why you were taking away the scholarships, and people wouldn't be any happier about it
if it's not been posted yet, who is in your play-offs prediction?
Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, and Notre Dame for me. No idea on the order.
>>63451868
And by posted yet, I meant posted this thread
>>63451867
No you take their scholarships away and a lot of them will say fuck that's not worth it and quit protesting. Who cares if you lose a handful of players, Missouri is shit anyway.
Reports out that a lot of the Missouri players are pissed at these protesters too.
>>63451896
so you take their scholarships but then give them back if they stop protesting? that seems functionally identical to the situation we have now.
>>63451484
but we won
>>63451924
No you announce that any player who protests the upcoming game is free to remain a student and finish their semester, but are losing their athletic scholarships. Most will cave, and the ones that don't can't continue to be regular students or they can transfer to a school that doesn't make racist poop symbols.
I mean, if a kid with an academic scholarship gets Fs then they lose their scholarship.
>>63451960
And you think this wouldn't exponentially increase the intensity of the protests among the student body as a whole? along with any number of other negative consequences for the university

A white boy was super drunk and called a black person a nigger a few months ago.
Then an unidentified person, likely super drunk, drew a swastika on a wall in shit.
The second is stupid because the swastika is way more attached to Antisemitism than racism nowadays, and the first is stupid because I guaranfuckingtee you the players are calling themselves and each other niggers in the locker room each day.
And apparently the president is responsible because he didn't drop everything in his life and comfort these poor oppressed minorities who had their fee-fees hurt.

this thread is about their unreasonable butthurt. so you're a bunch of big, bad SEC football players, but there's such a racist environment at your school that you have to ruin your team's football season to make a stand? that's horseshit and everyone knows it.
they have gotten their asses whooped by every decent team they've played, some black kid goes on a hunger strike, and it's the perfect opportunity to quit.

>>63449210
But the Big 12 is a joke. They play nobody.

>A Missouri Tigers player said Sunday night that the entire team is not united over the decision to stop practicing until grad student Jonathan Butler ends his hunger strike.
>"As much as we want to say everyone is united, half the team and coaches -- black and white -- are pissed," the player, who wished to remain anonymous, told ESPN. "If we were 9-0, this wouldn't be happening."
>"Not everyone agrees with the decision [to stop all football activities]," the player said. "Most people are pissed, including the black guys [on the team]."
>>63454487
as far as they are concerned, its a handful of bad apple whites becoming police and killing black teenagers. that's somewhat higher stakes than hearing a drunk teenager use a slur. whether or not you think that's legit, its what they are scared of. And when they perceive the college's administration tolerating someone being outwardly hateful at a time in which these issues are relevant to national consciousness, its not shocking that a bunch of college kids are going to try to "make a change". And they aren't quitting, I guarantee you they are going to keep playing if this dude steps down.

so much this
TCU's only argument is their Ole Miss beatdown last year on New Year's Eve. Ooo they took down a big bad SEC West team, the bama-killer team. The same team that has days where they get shut out by Arkansas or they lose to fucking Memphis.
Similarly Baylor's argument all comes from it's 'high-powered' offense, winning games 205-156 by running up the score against teams that have no chance at stopping any competent offense in the top half of Power 5 schools.
Okie State blowing out TCU was a well-deserved end to this meme. Big 12 will gain its foothold back when balanced teams like Oklahoma and Oklahoma State get back to being good and winning bowl games.

me and your mom made a podcast with my dick
>>63458326
I have no personal bias towards or against Georgia and I really don't agree. Penn State fans have been arguing they have a chance at winning their conference even post-blowout losses to Temple and OSU. They still argue they'll win out against Michigan and Michigan State. I don't think they actually watch their own team. Tennessee fans seem to think they're the most prestigious program in college football. They also think their recruits are all the best at their positions, but have epic meltdowns whenever they lose out on a highly rated recruit even if everybody else on the planet knew that recruit wasn't going to Tennessee for a long time. Georgia fans are not as bad as either of them.
>>63457874
it's not hard to understand. people were complaining that alabama is ahead of unbeaten p5 teams. someone else pointed out that ohio state had a loss last year. in response to this, it was noted that ohio state didn't jump over any undefeated teams.
what point are you trying to communicate beyond that?
btw context always matters.
Who do you guys think is the most underrated team this year?
>inb4 Memephis
>>63458431
Tennessee might be considered a blue blood, but definitely not Georgia by any stretch of the imagination. They won one legit national championship in their history. Their other national championship came during WW2 when most schools were either fielding a barebones football team or not fielding any football team at all. Georgia, however, kept hold of all their players and staff because Georgia football was apparently more important than stopping the Axis.
The point I'm trying to make is that Georgia literally supports Hitler and is not a blue blood.
>>63449905
which one of your five-star draft bust nigger quarterbacks do you want us to break first?
>>63458487
That was a gross simplificaiton of the thread but in any case they jumped a team that arguably deserved a shot. Im not saying Ohio State didnt or anything. Im simply stating they jumped a good TCU team, or rather, TCU fell 2 spots after a great performance. Speaking of context, mine actually takes context into account. Any statements otherwise, even the initial question, was asinine because 1. what it implied and 2. the context of that implication

Tennessee's not a blueblood by any definition
>>63458572
>They jumped a good TCU team
A TCU team that, if we're being honest, should never have even been in consideration due to the fact they lost their head-to-head with Baylor
>>63458505
Potentially Oklahoma State, should they beat Baylor and Oklahoma.
>>63458572
it literally is how the discussion started, it's not a gross simplification.
Here's the post that started it all:>>63448946
To which someone replied: >>63449004
and clarified: >>63449866
The point being that Ohio State's ranking last year does not excuse or explain Alabama's this year. The undefeateds being referenced aren't hypothetical, as you've wrongly interpreted. they are current year Iowa, Baylor and Ok St.
>>63458675
Trust me. I hate Tennessee with every single fiber of my body, but a history dating back to 1891, 6 national championships (from 1938 to 1998), 13 SEC championships, and a .680 win record is hard to argue with. Even though they suck shit now (and I hope that it stays that way), they're a historically dominant program.
>>63458754
Alabama fan here. Tennessee is a great football program with high prestige. Don't listen to that retard.
Fuck Tennessee by the way. Rocky top my dick in your mouth
OKST will beat Baylor, but lose to a 2-loss OU
>>63458754
Trust me. I know they're a historically dominant program, but they're not a blue blood. There's a HUGE gap in almost every measurable win %/ranking statistic between the top 8 programs and the next. A huge gap. And Tennessee is the first team on the unfavorable side of this gap, along with Penn State. If some people don't even consider Nebraska/Texas a blueblood, Tennessee is not even close to being one.
>>63458822
I consider all 3 and Harvard/Yale
>>63458702
Now you're jerking me around. Who did Ohio State lose to?
>>63458749
Its a gross simplification because the question was loaded on purpose
>>63458754
>not in the 700 club
>>63458855
fluke loss after losing starting QB. Ohio State was most dominant team in nation following their VT loss, plus they BTFO of MSU
only bluebloods are harvard, yale, and princeton
the rest are peppy upstarts
>>63458855
which question was loaded? Bama this year and OSU last year aren't comparable for a very specific reason.
>>63458754
Boise St has a .726 all time win percentage and 18 conference championships, must be a blue blood
If you went to LSU how quick do you think you'd kill yourself?
>>63458863
this desu senpai
>>63458754
6 *claimed national championships. 3 of them are real. Auburn, LSU, and Georgia all have about that many conference championships. .680 is good enough to be 12th, which is not elite. They're good but none of that is blueblood worthy.
>>63458863
who here /headcoachin900club/? Not so fast Nick
>>63458892
So VT was a fluke loss (to a 6-6 team) and TCU wasn't? Baylor literally had one of the most epic comebacks in recent memory.
>>63458911
Because it was obviously grasping for "SEE THERE WERE NO UNDEFEATED TEAMS THAT OSU JUMPED, SEE I WAS RIGHT" instead of relying on the much better "hindsight is 20/20" thing (OSU being the NC).
>>63458974
how can an initial response to an opening point be "see i was right". What thing could I be referencing that i was right about?
>>63458974
shitty OOC sched, no big 12 CG, etc
>>63458974
I think TCU was the better team than Baylor, but when two teams from the same conference have the same overall record and one of them won the head-to-head matchup it's shady as fuck to just give the nod to the team that lost anyways. Every single person in this thread knows it's impossible to solely off head-to-head because then only undefeateds would be left, but when it comes to two extremely similar teams playing for the same conference championship and ending the year with nearly identical results how do you not give it to the team that won?
>>63458822
I dunno. I've always consider the blue bloods to be:
Notre Dame (1887)
>.732 win record; 11 national championships
Michigan (1879)
>.730 win record; 11 national championships
Ohio State (1890)
>.722 win record; 8 national championships
Alabama (1892)
>.723 win record; 15 national championships
USC (1888)
>.702 win record; 11 national championships
Oklahoma (1895)
>.718 win record; 7 national championships
Texas (1893)
>.711 win record; 4 national championships
Nebraska (1890)
>.699 win record; 5 national championships
Tennessee (1891)
>.680 win record; 6 national championships
I do see what you mean about the gap though. I've just always thought of Tennessee as blue blood, but it definitely begs the question of "how many years of irrelevance does it take to lose blue blood?" Schools like Pittsburgh (1890; 9 national championships) and Minnesota (1882; 7 national championships) have certainly reached that point.
>>63458973
Don't mind me
>>63459044
>6 national championships
They have 4. As many as Illinois.
Can this end all blue blood debates ever?
>>63459022
This. It's not about who the better team is. It's about who the most deserving team is. TCU and Baylor were certainly better than FSU. It doesn't matter. FSU won all their games. TCU lost to Baylor. TCU was never in the title question at the end of the season (although the committee did tease them by putting them #3). It was purely OSU vs. Baylor.
>>63459110

>>63459102
Yes. However, Nebraska is out. It's not just a list of accomplishments. It's a status. Nebraska does not have that status.
You knew Michigan would come back. Everyone knew it. They're Michigan. That's a status. The people that expect Nebraska to have a season like 1994 ever again are deep in the minority. They don't have that status.
>>63459003
Im talking about whoever had the original question.
>>63459152
which original question?
"which undefeated p5 did OSU jump last year"?
>>63459144

Wanna blue blood muh dick
>>63459251
>my school is so shit that it has to claim ambiguous titles
>>63459150
True, I personally believe Nebraska should be considered a blue blood but for the sake of being objective and looking at all angles I actually brought up that exact point in the last blue blood debate. Nebraska's only about 12 years removed from major success (>only) so let's not forget that not too long ago Alabama was going through their program's worst stretch of history and was looking more like a pushover than a blue blood. That being said, Nebraska officially dropped out of the 700 club this season (I think if they win out they might be back in) so there's that - I think if they're mediocre/above average for another 5 years or so the status can officially be revoked. As for now I'm not really sure if there's a right designation for Nebraska or not.
>>63459251
>my school couldn't win their bowl game but they still won the championship because it makes me feel better

>>63450787

>>63459275
Alabama won the SEC in 1999, which is also the last year Nebraska did. Nebraska hasn't won a conference title in sixteen years, and they aren't really close. No other blueblood ever went that long without a conference title. Nebraska did that TWICE.
I don't deny Nebraska's accomplishments. But like I said it's a status, and they don't have it.

I'm a Gators fan and I disagree. Grier was starting to get into rhythm, but he was still inconsistent for most of the season. He barely won against Kentucky and Tennessee and had a mild performance against Missouri. The only game he played well from start to finish in was Ole Miss. The real difference has been the fact that this Gators defense is one of the best I've ever seen and our offense at least has a pulse this year. Under Muschamp's tenure, our defense was playing against the opposing team's offense and our offense because our offense was such a liability.
I just think that this team's composition, even with Grier, is too fundamentally flawed to be an actual playoff contender. But the fact that we've come so far despite the glaring flaws shows how good of a coach McElwain is. I think that if you gave McElwain control of last year's Gators, they could be in the playoffs. If you gave Muschamp control of this year's Gators, they'd be 4-5 or 5-4 and 4th in the SEC East.
Give us another two years of recruiting and development and you'll see us in strong contender form.
