That's the thing about quitting, it shows how big a coward you really are. When you quit after losing the finals a few times, you show it to the world that you play the sport only for the sake of it. If you had an iota of passion towards the sports, you wouldn't have quit.
John Carew has been a runner-up in the Champions League, FA Cup and the League Cup with different teams. Matt Le Tissier was a brilliant player who could have quit long back to win something at a much bigger club.
Germany won the World Cup two years back. Before that, they were the best team in quite a few tournaments even when they didn't win when it mattered the most. Did Lahm quit? Did Ballack quit? Nope. They fought for the country. They kept going for the love of the sport.
You're not the greatest of all time. Fuck that. You're not even the greatest of this generation. With this one move, you deserve to be shat on from every football fan in the world.
You've wronged a lot of fans. You've wronged the sport. It might be your decision to make but when a country has its hopes pinned on you, it becomes more than just your decision.
You've let the sport down, Messi. You might go on to win the sextuple or something similar at Barcelona, but at least for me, you will never be a decent player now. You're a half-arsed player who plays for what's on the back of the jersey, not for what's on the front of it.
