And you would lose all the extra money/recognition that the basketball team makes for the university. Probably exceed 6m in Michigan State basketball t-shirts sales a year. Big picture here. $6 million is a drop in the bucket compared to what they bring in. Same as football.
Both those sports literally keep the entire athletic department afloat and still push merchandise sales to make extra money.
Not to mention all the extra money from tickets and sales if the team is actually good, hence why you hire a good coach.
