Valentin Gonzales, llamado "El Campesino" fue un militar republicano nacido el 4 de noviembre de 1904 y muerto el 20 de octubre de 1983.
De extracion social baja, comenzo a trabajar como minero con solo ocho anos. La leyenda dice que mato a cuatros miembros de la Benemerita en 1927. Su padre era un obrero anarquita que tuvo problemas con la justicia y que fue ajusticiado en 1937.
Antes de la proclamacion de la Republica, convertido en un contratista de obras. El 18 de julio ingreso en el mitico Quinto Regimiento que le hizo famoso pronto.
Participo en las principales batallas de la Guerra Civil y cuando se acercaba el final de la contienda, escapo a Oran. Desde alli marcho a la URSS e ingreso a la Academia Militar Frunze de Moscu. Pero fue expulsado y enviado a un campo de concentracion. Escapo y paso a Iran desde donde fue devuelto por las tropas britanicas a la Union Sovietica para ser encerrado de nuevo. Pero evadido una vez mas y llego a Moscu para marchar de nuevo a Iran.

It was a dark and stormy night. This seems cliché perhaps. I cannot tell in truth if the weather was a natural occurrence in and of itself, or something darker - an imagining, a reflection of my most terrible mood in those mournful hours. Dusk had set in with a frightening intensity. The hallowed paws of the night had grasped the streets around my decrepit apartment with a ravenous hunger. Looking at the empty streets from my rain-battered window, it felt as if there was nothing at all beyond that ink-abyss, that chasm of reality which lay just outside the warmth and safety of my abode. Or so I thought. For I was soon taken by a delirious and insane desire which I shudder even now to relate. I felt a horrendous movement of matter inside my very being, and I knew what I could not bare to say would occur that night with or without my bidding.
I needed to poop.
Without a moment's hesitation - perhaps the clarity I would have needed to reconsider these detestable actions, I rushed to the water closet. The light inside was broken, as the room itself was never used. I did not mind. I could barely bring myself to see the outcome of my actions. The lid flew open by my hasty hands. I sat. I felt it come. I heard it crash upon the shallow water beneath.
I was no more.

Je me sentais un mouvement horrible de matière à l'intérieur de mon être même, et je savais ce que je ne pouvais pas nu-à-dire qui se produirait ce soir avec ou sans mes ordres.
Je devais faire caca.
Sans hésiter un instant - peut-être la clarté, je aurait besoin de reconsidérer ces actions détestables, je me suis précipité vers le placard de l'eau. L'éclairage intérieur a été rompu, que la chambre elle-même n'a jamais été utilisé. Je n'y prêtais pas attention. Je pouvais à peine me résoudre à voir le résultat de mes actions.
