Poorly.

I hate my retail job and I hate myself for not making a single connection in college. I'm a fucking retard and I deserve the mediocrity I wallow in.

>Applied for over 100 part time jobs

Pretty shitty desu senpai.

Going pretty well. Got an interview within a few days of looking. 2 years ago it would have taken weeks. Should be working in a few months at this rate.
>>
this world is not worth living in and the people are savages. There is nothing to gain under these circumstances. Why would I apply for a job?

fuck applications

Pretty good actually. I landed a warehouse job the other day with no problems. Seriously if you guys are having trouble finding work just go apply at warehouses/factories. They'll take literally anybody. Craigslist also helps.
>>
How do I into being a NEET? I've long since given up on finding a job since I have zero useful skills.
>>
>>29373864
You don't just go to one store and expect to get hired. You go to about thirty, lie about job history (especially if you have little to non), present yourself as a confident happy person, and not look like a NEET neckbeard.

Walking in and expecting mommy to get you work is ignorant and childish. You gave up long before that job interview.
>>
>>29373864

Doesn't mean shit if your mom's a nobody at work. If your mom is the store manager or she works in HR, snap of the fingers and you get a job.

It works similarly in offices. Your dad is a big shot, he doesn't directly do hiring but probably interviews some people and has a relationship with HR so it's pretty much, he can get HR fired if they don't hire you.

The amount of nepotism in my office is insane. Any of the older employees' kids are pretty much a shoe-in for a job if they want it.

Last thing, getting hired is 1000% a popularity contest. Do the interviewers like you is the first question. Do they think you're competent or able to do the job is the tie-breaker if there's another candidate they like.
>>
>>29374026

If anyone's curious, it took me about 1 year from graduating college to find a white-collar job. Seemed like I'd never get hired. 4 interviews and nothing. Some were shit jobs paying as little as $35,000. 5th one got me the job and it's decent paying (started in the mid-40s, now around $53k a year later).

It was way more stressful being unemployed, living with my mom and applying for jobs than it is actually working. Work is basically "NEET the job" except I have to sit in a few meetings a week and do the faggy email back-and-forth thing all day. No exaggeration when I say that I send 50+ emails in a typical week.

This was with a low GPA (2.5, if I'm rounding up) in a STEM major.
>>
>>29374142
Cool I'm in the same boat, do you have an estimate of how frequently you sent resumes? Did you use job sites or what?

I'm trying to hit 60 resumes a week with tailored cover letters/resumes for the position because I've heard just shotgunning on glassdoor or whatever doesn't work.
>>
>>29374116
>someone that pisses you off?

>>
>>29374215
It is true though. People judge others harshly and if you don't put on a good enough show, you won't be impressing anyone.

Lie about your history, don't be yourself, and befriend those in a position higher than yours.
>>
>>29374202

60 a week sounds like a lot, maybe review the resume and ask: Am I a good value proposition, would I hire me, what makes this stand out, does it have keywords that are in the job description? If you're getting 1-2 interviews a week off those 60, great. If not, you're wasting a lot of time. I'd expect a phone off a minimum 5% of resumes.

And do a side project. Something to stay busy and show that you're not just shitposting on r9k 24/7. The goal isn't "get interviews", it's "be impressive enough when you get an interview, that you'll get hired".

I sent probably 3-5 resumes most weeks, some weeks it was none. Mostly I targeted near my hometown and within a few hour's drive. I tried to be somewhat choosy so if it didn't sound like a good fit, I didn't apply. If you apply to too many jobs, it gets tricky coordinating phone interviews, onsites and keeping track of everything.

I found the jobs on Indeed and clicked through to apply on the company's website. My uncle also got me an interview at his company (just emailed a resume and bam, onsite interview set up) but it didn't lead to anything. I would spend more time trying to network, desu. Check Meetup.com, look for professional meetups of something in your field (finance, software development, whatever). Not every job is posted online.

And the follow-up - I'm currently blowing off recruiters that contact me on LinkedIn. So I have the exact opposite "problem" lol.
>>
>>29374142
Over a year after graduating with a 3.5 gpa (also STEM) and I still have nothing. Lack of experience kills me. Can't even get an internship because most places require you to be currently in school.

Teach me your ways. I send out a dozen or so apps a week, go to job fairs, and know a ton of people in the industry. Thinking I may have to start working as a factory assembler or something to get a company to know me before I get an engineering job.

Aim lower. What exactly in STEM? Anything math, programming, or engineering related is perfect to get into finance as an Analyst, consider broadening your search into that world.

If you're getting interviews, maybe you're not "outgoing" enough. Do the whole smile, laugh at stupid jokes, seem like a normie thing. Don't take it too seriously. A lot of managers are just looking for a friend who also might be able to do the job.

Seriously, think "What's a shitty company that's probably begging for Millenials?" It's a stepping stone. Or check small towns, less competition. Get more creative. Everyone's looking for jobs at Intel, Facebook, Microsoft, Google, big banks, oil companies, etc.

Ignore the "have to be in school" thing on internships. They're looking for students, they probably won't turn down a recent grad.

And try to have something that says "I'm interesting" or "holy shit this guy can make us money".

>>29374525

>>
>>29374653
I know this meme and true, it's fucking tough. But... they put on 1-2 years experience to filter out the pussies. Course they'd prefer someone with experience, but they'll take what they can get. Not every finance company is Goldman Sachs. Smaller banks need analysts, retail stores' corporate HQs need analysts, even ketchup companies have analysts. In some places, it's as basic as being an Excel monkey and making pretty charts and Powerpoints, and running some reports. Legit, search Indeed for "Reporting Analyst". Joke of a job in a lot of companies but money is money.

Ok here's some general advice to treating jobs like a numbers game (some applies to unskilled, some to white collar, some both):

What are your odds?
>What is the unemployment rate in your area?

>What is the turnover rate for the job you're applying at? (fast food, call center, etc. have insane turnovers)

>Do you seem "above" the job? If yes, you have no chance. If you're applying for unskilled bullshit, don't say you graduated college.

>How good are you at pretending to be a normie? Seriously, it might sound cringey but do a practice interview or 2 and ask for feedback. Are you not smiling enough, are your answers too short, do you seem confident?

>If it's an unskilled job, are you calling to inquire about your application the week following your submission? If not, slap yourself. If the place is hiring and you call in to ask, high probability of getting an interview.
>>
I gave up.

I actually, completely gave up on the whole notion of working for employers. I got tired of the hundreds of unanswered applications, the act of filling out tons of forms and answering personality quizzes online, and I simply don't want to need to explain holes in my work history or why I won't give them access to my social media accounts. So I refuse to participate.

>>
>>29375392

Yeah, my LinkedIn mainly carried my resume, a few interests/hobbies, "causes I'm interested in", etc. Think LinkedIn scored it as a 70% for completeness, not that that got me the job.

The resume should be one page. It can be a little shorter (at least 3/4 the page), but if it only takes up half a page, you need to space it out.

For more advanced jobs (10+ years experience, upper management, maybe a professor, maybe C-suite), 2-3 pages might be acceptable. But under 5-7
years' experience, less than 2 jobs, all should be on 1 page.

>>29375465
If you're really at your wit's end, lie about shit and see how often that gets callbacks. It's really time to tune up your resume or be more selective when applying if you're not getting a call after 20-25 applications.

>>
>>29377210

Yeah, pretty much that. Put a few "relevant classes" down along with the degree, just a few 3- or 400 level courses. Most employers do check for Facebook and LinkedIn, not having one of them could be a red flag.

Also it could be your state isn't big on biochem or whatever. Using the finance example, LA is relatively shit for finance jobs. Chicago has probably twice as many with just 60% the population. But Chicago is shit for jobs in the fashion industry or entertainment.

Think of the biggest biochem employers and target them, at the least. And maybe stretch it to anything chem related (paint companies, P&G, oil companies, etc.). Or branch out into the clinical trials/biotech/pharmaceuticals. If you're a pure Biochemistry major and not BME then you might want a Master's to get above the test tube cleaner level. Biology and Chemistry jobs are hard to come by at the Bachelor's level.

That's what I noticed happening, pretty much most professors are involved in some world of conventions, grants, projects, or whatever the fuck where there's always work to be done. Fucking professors...

Anyway I graduated with a bachelors in Studio Art and currently make $13 an hour in a distribution warehouse to pay off my small loan

It's cool though because now I know that I could just go on road trips and work seasonal art projects and residencies if I wanted. There's one in Michigan I know of that I'm particularly qualified for.

I've worked a ton of shit jobs since I was 16 tho

I started on Pizza Delivery/ dishes for 5 an hour, and a couple years later I did some food jobs for $7 an hour and later to 10 an hour. I was making $12 an hour for a short while with this Theatre man who did workshops needed a guy who could animate and fix computers.

Now I push boxes.
Right now my life sucks, but I'm still pursuing my goals, I'll try to succeed as an artist as a last resort, but it's hard to be into when you're focused on saving up a couple thousand dollars.

If you can add anything related to statistics, SQL, computer programming, that could be a big help. Microsoft Excel is pretty standard for most companies (reporting in particular), doesn't hurt to put it down. If you've done any research assistantships in undergrad, if you have any papers published (co-author, contributing author, whatever), that'll help.

Going back to the analyst thing, if you can get a job as a data analyst for clinical trials or healthcare, that might be perfect. They usually look for people with a bio/chemistry background, some statistics and experience analyzing experiments for statistical significance.

Two years into college I decided to go for becoming a CPA mainly because job growth is crazy and the pay isn't too bad provided you don't work for a shitty big four firm. I hope to start my own firm some day.

>>
>>29380297
SAS and SPSS are probably the most commonly used statistical programs for the healthcare field. Base SAS certification, maybe spend $100 on study materials and $150? on a test. I'd estimate 100 hours of studying and practice using the program if you're doing it from scratch (I passed with 7 hours study time but used the program for several months before that). But you may as well see if there are a lot of jobs that'd require/prefer SAS in the first place.

Same. I applied to like 10 jobs in the last month since I graduated, and nothing. Only a shitty telemarketing job contacted me, and I turned it down because it was a scam basically. I don't get it. I have a degree, I have decent clips to show from it, and nothing. I'd understand if I was a NEET trying to get a job, but fuck man. I put the work in at school and now I have nothing to show for it. I hate venting on the internet, but this is thread just hit too close to home.

Honestly I feel like it's probably easier to get a job with a high school diploma/GED and work experience than to have a college degree with little/no work experience. But fuck. I have internship experience in my field with clips better/on par with my peers.
>>
I've applied to about 20 internships since March, I got an interview for one this Monday and I hope I get it because all of the rest have said no. No luck with regular jobs either, nothing past an interview.

STEM is pretty misleading desu, because it also encompasses shit like biology and worse yet, fucking psychology.

People are always like, OMG I MAJORED IN STEM AND I DIDNT GET JOB WAAH, until you ask them what they majored in and said something like sociology. Because its a social "science".

Will probably have a 70% chance of getting hired at in-n-out pretty soon here. Didn't want to work in fast food, but I'm desperate for a job. From what I can tell, it seems like it'd be more fast paced than my last 2 warehouse jobs, which is shit because I get stressed easily.

Anyone here know what it's like to work in a fast food place? Any advice at all?

Life is pretty great right now. I see many people in this thread who seem lost, let me offer advice. Might help but might not.

School is great, having any degree automatically opens you up to a ton of jobs. If you want something good though, do STEM. Also I know a lot of you guys aren't trying as hard as you should and that you are smarter than you give yourselves credit for. Apply to as many things as you can, even if you aren't qualified. Use any connections you have. If you aren't good at interviews just fake it til you make it. If you have a shitty job then don't be satisfied with it. Don't quit but look for other things while working. I know I may seem like a normie but I was one of you guys once. Also being a wage cuck (with a good job) is awesome. You don't have to worry about money, you can travel, you can buy cool shit and be independent. Its something to work towards.

Good luck.

Bottom line is that showing to much ambition is bad as well.

I recently had so many jobs and interviewers stating to me I am overqualified for the job and that I am best suited for middle management, but they seem to not understand that I need to have some leadership experience for that. Hence why I apply to teamleader positions or similar.

This is fucked up. I worked abroad, speak several languages fluent, look representative and have moderately normal degree in business with sales, finance and marketing as majors. Either I am low qualified or to high. FUCK!
>>
>>29385497
not the anon you are replying to.

in my country you can't become a cab driver by just learning for it. They are government protected and the license department works on nepotist protocol. Basically there was a time that anyone could become a cab driver, which flooded the market, and gave rise to criminals. Now you need to be a hefty shitton of money to get a license to drive. Being a cab driver now means big bucks, as they can sell that license with interest to someone else who has the other necessary papers.

Being cashier is woman's job. Not that I don't want to do it, but they will only hire women to do it. Not only that, but they only hire young cheap women, preferably from a minority background. They call it positive discrimination and is endorsed by the government.

Low end jobs are only open for either the young or unschooled. If you are neither, than they will say you are overqualified.
>>
>>29386444
in terms of answering that '5 years time' question, I think a more vague answer wouldve worked just fine.
>>
>>29385764
Apply everyday with a minimum of one job, except on Sunday where I take a day off.

I got a multitude of interviews in these last 6 months, but none worked out. Either I was number 2 choice or overqualified, or they found someone with more experience.

What is a total bitch right now is that many people of the older demographics claw into their job as if it were their life. This means that the younger generation is unable to move up. Any form of employment law change is stopped by the labour parties. This is one factor of the current economy. Many employers are still stuck in the recession, meaning they don't want to take a risk in hiring extra people, eventhough the economy is growing well. This is another factor.
There are various internal and external factors why someone can't get a job. I find jobs all the time, but getting them is something else.

Don't be so easy to just throw them all in one camp.
