I am one who is in the know.
I've been an athiest for years before, then I slowly transitioned to a theist in my early-mid 20's.
I've finally reached the conclusion, and it's true: God is real. But there is much misunderstanding and misinformation out there. All religions by definition are bullshit and God doesn't support any of them, but he still has a loving understanding towards them. He does not want to be worshipped, he wants to be experienced.
What God is has been misunderstood by many on the low evolutionary chain for a millennia. God has no form since he is spirit. The idea of us being created in his image is entirely true. We are all infinitesimally small parts of him, but we are not him. Like a drop of water to an ocean. However, we are capable at any time of experiencing him.
What is he? Love. Love is not a feeling, but an entity. It is the fabric of the universe, and it is something so subtle that it can't be realised through thought or reasoning; only experienced. Therefore any theory thrown at it goes out the window.

They too were at one time more like Islam. But, had acclimated to modern day society. With Christianity it was the reformation. Islam too is going to have to undergo a reformation.
But, aside from what you just argued, it can be argued the other way around. Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism are all missionary religions. They required believers to pontificate their beliefs on to others. The least practicing of this is Buddhism, but they are technically missionary. Judaism appeared to be at one time missionary. I'm going by the Bible in the stories of Elisha having gone to cities and preach about God. As well as Noah, who reluctantly preached of God in a city where God said he was going to strike down unless he didn't. But now seems to be none practicing of trying to convert people.

Although, it doesn't appear to be practiced in all denominations of that religion. However, there are others that still carry certain traditions that must be followed that may cause conflict. For example this one Sikh joining the military refused to have his beard shaved and refused to wear the military issued hat, but a customized turban for military use. This could lead to a slippery slope of all sorts of arguments for their religious practice to be accommodated for.
So, in other words. Sometimes secularism and religion can be in conflict even if they are neutral to each others beliefs.

If there was definite proof of God, what would the point of existence be? We would know we can't sin, the rules of the bible could never be questioned and there would again be no drive to better ourselves or advance technology. Since God doesn't interfere, we need to do these things in order to survive and prosper.
