I think so, some might be able to continue on but you won't be able to get diagnosed as an adult even if you had the same symptoms as a child.
There is some push back to diagnosing it at all and using drugs for it, you probably get SSRIs for it these days

I think the film that best depicts the scene would be 24 Hour Party People cos it shows how the country went from the 70s and working mens clubs, to something different and exciting coming along and everyone just wanting to have fun together.
no malice or acting hard or any of that, just groups of people having fun and being loved up.
the same people who had responsible jobs and would go drink tea with granny on sundays.
this book I enjoyed reading years ago, gives you a good feel for it.

Yeah the bus ride back to Kingswood is awkward and most of the time results in not getting laid, so don't get accom there or girls from there.
