The worst thing to happen to 4chan was that the userbase gradually shifted from being libertarian and accepting almost any freakish behavior as long as it didn't hurt anyone, to becoming full on fascists and hating on "degenerates". It's a shame that /pol/'s edgy philosophy has leaked onto the rest of the site.

The worst thing that happened to 4Chan is every board being flooded with porn as opposed to actual content.
That's why we hate degenerates. 4Chan now worships women and when we try to tell the degenerate women worshippers to fuck off they don't.

now people will unironically shit on someone for being edgy
it's just like tumblr, but with different names used to blame things

I blame the colleges in my region for pushing both extreme left wing and right wing thought (the latter at private institutions) into everyday life, things that should be common sense, but aren't anymore. Leading me to utter confusion and frusteration. I didn't go to college, I bled from high school to see my passions come to fruition, and now, I have the power to employ or ignore. I've become hateful of all but the most independant and obstinate of individuals. (north carolina native btw, you might be able to guess where I'm coming from)

The best thing to do right now, is avoid all but the most based individuals... but really, being 'based' is entirely dependant on world view, so fuck it. Only work with friends, despite skill or experience.
>>

Why are you fucking talking about? You're upset 4chan has started to care about civilization? You're mad they don't apologize for muslims and niggers anymore? I don't get it
>>
>>28757768

i miss it so much. when it was a bunch of anime loving fuckups who didn't care how degenerate anything was, the more shocking the better. now if you post anime people think you should get the fuck off the site. and im not even a huge anime fan, it was just a big part of the culture of the site.
>>
>>28757889

Caring about people being "degenerate" is not the same as caring about civilization. Muslims hate degeneracy more than anyone and yet most people here agree they have become a big problem, nobody wants sharia law.
>>
This site used to be so fun when people posted dumb shit just to have fun, people turning every thread into politics is boring. It's been especially bad within the past year, I can't wait for the US presidential race to be over I don't even care who wins

I have rigid essentialist views, if one of oversteps ones creative essential boundaries i.e. act contrary to purpose you're a sinner and need to be beat. For example onanists and homosexuals should be beaten.
>>
>>28757610
true, as far back as I remember there were always posters who screamed "degenerate" at everything (now they say "cuck") and there were always nazis on /new/ (now /pol/), but the incidents of the past few years have brought a distinct crowd here.

4chan once had its prevailing ideology shaped by the structure of the internet and the ideals of technologists, so naturally everyone was some sort of libertarian. Then we had gg and fappening and some other things that brought people with political agendas and less connection to things like free software, even anime. They've really shifted the narrative. Scary feminists are everywhere. General misanthropy has largely narrowed to hatred of minorities and people viewed as degenerate. Want to talk about how much a right-wing politician wants to crack down on the internet? Cuck. But of course I can't leave so I'm stuck here complaining about all of it.
>>
>>28757889

People realized the folly of economic libertarianism and that all behavior has meaningful consequences.

Yeah, ask the furfaggots how tolerant we were of them.

>>28758151
All semites are descended from Noah in the biblical account, and yes one of his sons was cursed for being a disrespectful son, but that isn't the source of conflict between Muslims and Christians. That's got a lot more to do with the fact that Arabs wanted the Holy Land to be part of their empire, while the Orthodox and Catholic Church wanted it in their backyard.

>>28758159
How do you define "purpose?" Is it different for different people? Do pagans who have lived without God for their entire life and have no chance to ever learn of God have the same essential boundaries as a Christian, or a Muslim who believes in God but hasn't recognised Jesus as God?

guessing It comes down to the abandonment of the internet, but what form does that take? or since we might not be able to abandon it at this point, does that mean those willing to engage must be willing to learn its controversial aspects to survive?
>>
In my experience, the whole internet has just gotten more political in general. I like to think it'll die down after the election but I know it won't
>>
>>28758254
furfags (and to some extent the ponyfags) were a special case in that they were really the fucking worst, most insufferable posters. They had to inject themselves into every thread and bring up their furriness no matter what. They might have won if, like right-wingers, they had brought an army of new posters instead of merely being a subculture of 4chan.
>>
>>28758281

/pol/ is a shitty board, but it's better now. In late 2014, it hits it's worst peak with redneck religious revivalists spamming the fedora meme and calling everyone 'neckbeards' and other buzzwords who didn't fit in to their neo-religious revival circlejerk.

The board still has it's remnants of that, and I do agree that degeneracy must be opposed, but the best way to deal with /pol/ is to quarantine them.

If people are innately good, then Jesus wouldn't have had to save us. Think about the Polynesians, American indians and aborigines. They were born with the same soul as any other human, but because they've never had Gospels given to them until thousands of years later, they haven't lived Christian lives, and have been predestined to Hell for it. You're applying imaginary standards.

1. Post spergy facebook shit for le ebin laughs, get mad because no one liked the post, try a few more times, then leave so they can get instant likes on Facebook or Reddit

2. Come here, actually lurk for the mandatory 6 months before posting, get accustomed to board/site culture, then, like a chicken hatching from an egg, they start contributing, more and more, make a few memes, info graphs, whatever here and there (good quality ones) and eternally post here till they die.

This place is too cancerous for normies to stay. They either become us or leave.

4chan is a contrarian mirror.

You hold it up to society and what you get inside of the mirror is an opposite in extremity of what is happening in society.

If you ever hold up 4chan to the world and you see the world, you know it's in good balance and things will be alright.

But right now, you hold it up and you see the far right.

In the past you held it up and saw the far left.

>>28759089
Do you not understand that other people's actions have consequences. People are pretty dumb, if nobodies looking over them they'll get into trouble. Not to mention they're easily manipulated, if someone wanted to subvert a libertarian society, it would be fairly easy, just look at how communism is able to subvert semi democratic countries, imagine no central power in place to stop that.

I'm going to bed now

It's amazing I had to scroll this far down to find the answer. The biggest problem is that the initial userbase has been massively outnumbered by an influx of high schoolers and normalfags.

Reddit is largely to blame. Reddit in its early days was pretty great. Around 2007-2008, rage comics (originating on 4chan) became popular on reddit, which drew in tons of people. Meme culture began, a shit ton of normies were starting to get on the Internet due to smartphones and their emerging popularity, and advice animals drew them from Facebook to reddit. The /r/jailbait news controversies drew even more attention to the site. Reddit quickly grew in millions of new users, mostly normies and women, not the nerdy outcasts that made up its initial userbase.

Over the years, reddit grew more and more, meanwhile 4chan had its controversies and news coverage that drew it into the public eye. Most normal people still shied away from it, but it was now a relatively well known site to the general population.

As social media became exponentially more popular, the Internet overall became filled with normies. This wasn't as bad, because they mostly stuck to only a few websites. Unfortunately, reddit was one of those in-between websites. Redditors mined 4chan for content and "memes", and from reddit it went to Facebook/Instagram/twitter/snapchat

As a result, more and more people were exposed to 4chan. I think most probably went to /b/ first, but they gradually began to shit up other boards.

The final nail in the coffin was when pepe exploded in popularity. For a moment, this board was the primary source of the latest "meme". I can't find the picture right now, but there's a graph showing the increase in how often this board was googled. It exploded in popularity, and for a while, every single day the front page of reddit featured the newest epic screencap from /r9k/. It never recovered. I doubt it ever will.

Yes, I am the same person. I don't feel like explaining myself but I will anyways.

It's not a "this or that" situation. It's very fluid and ever-changing. /r9k/ seems much better than when I went on in my heyday; at the same time, /pol/ is also better now compared to the late 2014 time period I was talking about.

It's still bad, both are bad, but both are better when compared to the other time periods I was talking about.

We both know this is a very degenerate website, so that's that.
>>
You're all wrong. 4chan is and always has been counter culture. 4chan is becoming more conservative as society is becoming more liberal. Simple as that.
>>
>>28759858
I really can't judge /r9k/ because I'm very new here (though not at all to 4chan as a whole). I certainly see my fair share of sluts and annoying tripfags though. Before either here or /pol/ I spent most of my time on conspiracy forums specifically LunaticOutpost. I liked LOP (oddly enough Lop is /pol/ backwards) because it had more older members and a lot less fighting going on (member call-out threads were against the rules). Also the religious people on LOP were almost always actually serious about their faith and not just meme spammers. Plenty of Christian vs Atheist drama that resulted in the creation of a religious subforum, but none of the fedora meme tier shit you see on /pol/, because the userbase is older.

The important thing to understand is that this isn't counterculture for the sake of counterculture, it's being being exposed to the negative sides of either kind of government and seeing problems they hadn't anticipated. No system will be perfectly implemented in our time so it's bound to happen, but a lot of people are going to stay this way now that it has come full circle

"libertarians" has always been a fancy fedora word for nonconformism. now that the mainstream actively pushes degeneracy and campaigns against free speech, it's natural nonconformists fight back by espousing fascism to some degree. But people here have it all wrong. 4chan is not a "conservative" site at all. The degeneracy here is simply amazing. I don't even think these people know what "conservative" means.

What does it mean to you then?

Damn newfag, 4chan has always hated degeneracy and niggers.

Are you trying to imply that the current site in it's current form is in any way conservative? I can't even begin to describe the degeneracy on here.

>conservative
>holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.

The people who tout how conservative they are on 4chan are just roleplaying. None of them would last in a truly conservative society.

Most of the muslims I've met with are genuinely cool people.
Niggers are complete degenerates though, haven't met a single one that didn't bug the shit out of me in some form or another.
