I went to a Liverpool open day already actually, i would have preferred a regular day like you said but I did at least get to see the city at night because I arrived the day before and stayed in a hotel. Everyone I met was just as friendly as I was told to expect, a bloke who I had to ask for directions even casually asked me what I was doing up north and genuinely seemed curious to know, which put a smile on my face. People really did seem happy and to be having a good time where ever I saw them.
Ive got an interview with Leeds in a week and if I pass it then I will automatically get an unconditional offer. Probably won't get to spend more than 2 hours after that to see the city though since I live in the south. What city would you say would be best for somebody who will not be getting any financial benefit from parents and is going to do everything on student loans?

Student at Leeds here. Leeds is a really convenient city to live in, by which I mean you're never too far from a tesco express or a greggs. It feels like a mini London, but without the drawbacks of London, and with friendlier people. Can't speak for Liverpool, but every scouser I've ever met has been really friendly. Overall though, Leeds seems pretty average for a non-student, but it's brilliant for a student.
