Plenty of brown people here before that. And actually, way less of a communist/socialist presence during that time than before; during the 20s and 30s and before, America had legit communist political parties and socialist political parties and New Deals and shit. Plenty of popular support for those kinds of ideas too. Way less during the anti-commie propaganda days of the Cold War, for obvious reasons.
Which is what went wrong, I think. During the Cold War Russia was busy being as communist as possible, so we got busy being as capitalist as possible. It's like that effect that comes about in arguments, where over time both people arguing will shift towards more and more extreme versions of their own position, except applied at an international level. And I think, like Russia, our economic and political philosophy, along with our military expenditures, has gotten way out of hand. Like if you look at Europe, they have some of the best living standards in the world, and there's a fair bit of socialism over there. They're not communists, they have plenty of free market stuff going on too, but they temper it with socialism. We temper it with absolutely nothing and might well be an effective plutocracy already.
I mean, America's still the biggest deal on the planet, even if we're starting to fade from all appearances. We could still pull this shit together, we just have to show the ability and willingness to corral our elites and do it.

I was having a political discussion with some people and those were the same points I brought up. As long as the population is getting their 50 fucking varieties of Oreos and there is a Super Bowl every year, nobody is going to do anything. I also read "The Fate of Empires and Search for Survival" as well. The average length of an empire is about 250 years, give or take. Depending on whether you interpret the founding of America in 1776 or 1783 (personally I think it's 1783, since declaring yourself independent doesn't mean you're recognized), we're getting pretty close to the "fall" of the American empire. At this point, it doesn't fucking matter who wins or loses in politics. We're fucked either way. You think the masses are smart enough to recognize this? Fuck no. We have SJWs on side, and Tea Party retards on the other. Both scream about the other side and are too busy fighting each other for anyone to do anything. 4chan is guilty of the same fucking thing. /pol/ screams about the Jews, gays, anyone-who-isn't-a-neocon, etc. SJWs scream about the "patriarchy", "privilege", and racism. Because of modern technology and globalization, the likes in which the world has never seen before, I could easily see America hold out for much longer.
