Is the conference established? Or is it starting from scratch? If it's not established, your job is tougher but far from impossible.

Either way, first thing you need to do is create the product, which in this case is the conference. You will need basic marketing materials - a logo, digital mailout, physical flyers, adverts, etc.

Next, find a venue. Make sure it is big enough for the conference. Also, make sure it's appropriate. From the sounds of it, your crowd want traditional upper class luxury - a nice hotel, an art gallery, etc with decent, traditional food. Do not get a 'trendy' Soho warehouse space with Malaysian street food. Cater to your crowd.

Same with a nearby hotel and taxi company. Negotiate group discounts. Tell a taxi company they can have all of the business picking people up from airports and shit if they do it for a discount.

Next, find a keynote speaker or two who can give a meaningful presentation about whatever overriding theme you're working towards.

Then, advertise the fuck out of it. Research a list of CEO's, MP's, pop figures, etc. who should come and personally invite them. Also, do a few mass mailouts. Contact the sorts of businesses you want represented and invite them to invite their employees You can buy mailing lists of government email addresses pretty cheap. And no, I don't mean darkweb shit, I mean just regular marketing firms.

DESU it might be easier to put out a tender to do promotion.

Finally, it's event management. Make sure you have branded everything at the venue so it looks nice - banners, podium, stationary, etc. Make sure catering is available throughout. Be prepared to work your ass off making sure people are where they need to be.

Also, make sure people go to conferences to have fun. Give 'em a wine reception on the first night. Have an '8 til late' event on the last one. Business types go to these things to fuck each other. Let 'em have fun. You're basically organising a giant party.

>>26997815

No problemo.

If you're starting from scratch, use it to your advantage.

People fucking love to be 'early adopters' and 'get in on the ground floor' so hype the shit out of this aspect.

Make sure that the people going KNOW that they are going to have an advantage over their competitors (both within their company for promotions, and external against other business) for going because this is going to give them new, unique insight.

Fun fact, until you're pushing for senior management it's never brought up again after the initial interview. We had a guy who got dumped on us because he made a race complaint against his manager, the tribunal found against him and he quit rather than go back to his old department and get the cold shoulder from everyone for being a twat who tried to make his shoddy work a race issue.

>>26997786

Depends what sector.

I'm a Biomedical Scientist working for Public Health England. The Civil Service took over all Microbiology labs in England from the NHS. I kept my NHS contract because I'm not retarded, even with the five years pay protection I would still lose holiday allowance and have to risk of being debanded down a grade. The people who work here now get 34k a year, I'm on 42k. My wife works in the same lab as me me took the contract change, the only benefit she has is the option to take the Queens Birthday off.

The only cool thing about it is getting a .gov.uk email address. Which is never used outside of giving references to people because it looks better than my NHS email. And to read Duncan Selbies Friday message. That's always a highlight of my week.
>>
>>26998008

Ugh, no thanks. I couldn't hack it in the private sector.

>>26998019
It will ask you for competencies, google "civil service competency framework" and use the left hand column for each one as a checklist for things you should mention in each example. Other than that, anon here >>26997649 suggests you need a good equality & diversity example to discuss in the interview.

Remember 90% of civil service jobs are internal only, so if you take a crap job and do it for 6 months you increase your options for doing something you like dramatically.
>>
>>26998059

Here.

Pros-

>Excellent pension
>Easy to move up provided you put the effort in
>pays OK, will hopefully be better in five years when my pay protection ends
>overtime pay is insane. 170 for four hours on call work. Half the time I never do anything just sign my name and say I had no calls. I do that maybe 8 times a month. Easily making an extra 4K a year for virtually nothing
>job security

Cons
>payroll are constantly retarded, and get shit wrong all the time
>literally no control over what happens outside of meetings that never go anywhere, it's always someone much higher up, who has never actually worked in your sector, who makes decisions
>takes forever for anything to happen

I like it, but it's not massively different for when I worked for the NHS. Much better than working private IMO.

depends where u go mate

tribunals service is especially comfy. dwp is hard work at higher grades but comfy at AO/E grade. anywhere as AA/F is comfy....literally photocopy all day or push a trolley round for mail or do endless filing. most of that is solitary too.

hmrc is another good gig at lower grades. stay away from smaller departments though like DECC or similar. stay with the bigger ones like NOMS or MoJ. MoD as a civvy is hard as you may have an army guy as your line manager.

home office is probably easiest at low grades. also some local councils are good but it varies heavily. local govt departments differ greatly in each county.

asylum and immigration is ok too.

dont know about border force.

basically the lower the grade the easier and F's often have roles that are fairly solitary (messenger. repographics. filing. archive etc)

i dont know anything about quangos or other public funded bodies loke imperial war museum and such. sounds fun to work there but i imagine they want motovated people persons and probably those posta attract alot of interest.

just get a job doing printing for mi5 or GCHQ.

learn the competency framework and apply for every post that comes up to test your competencies.

remember Situation Task Action Resolution

just tell a good story for each competency that demonstrates you have said competency.

at interviews they ALWAYS ask the same competency questions that were on your application form.

They are.

1% pay rises and my pay is better than anyone who is employed for my position now because I was employed by the NHS before all the labs went over to PHE. I'd be like 8k worse off now.

It's ok, the civil service paid for me to do my Masters Degree, but it's certainly less money than 5 years ago. Hopefully should improve though.

Mostly they're filled by the retarded. We had a guy who was an AA and got paid 18k a year to push a post trolley around three floors all day. this is why i recommend it for robots

0 respnsibility 0 stress

and it pays 18k britbongs a year. 20 days annual not including bank holidays and privilege day for xmas and queens bday. pension. 7hr15min days 40hr week on flexi time (can go into debit with hours or build up credit and when u hit 7hrs can take a day off up to 3 flexi days a month on top of annual leave.) can buy/sell leave up to 3? days a month. most departments have overtime whenever you need it (completely optional) but you get paid time+1/2 and more if you are lucky enough to be offered sunday overtime. you get a interest free loan to buy a yearly travel ticket on trains/bus and you can steal all the stationary you want.

and thats at grade F where all you have to remember is to shit in the toilet and not on the floor.

and trust me thats not as easy for some people.

once yourr in as an F you can do courses to perfect your competencies. also every line manager ive had (6 so far) have helped with my development. sure sometimes its partly for them because they can use it as a competency if they got someone developed enough to be promoted. but ive always felt supported.

just get signed up for job alerts and start applying. make sure you read all the info about the competency framework.

start as an F and stay there for 20 years or work your way up. do whatever man. plus once you hit any grade you can apply for promotion to the next grade through an interviw or you can do a level transfer to the same grade in a different department without any interview or application.
