this is the worst, it has all but killed YTP. there were some great poopers a couple years ago, but now it seems like all the best ones either stopped making new vids entirely/had their channels taken down or only make poops once in a blue moon

What I hate about YouTube is that instead of vloggers dying out like I expected they have exploded, especially with the branch into gaming and facecams and shit like that. YouTube is just another mainstream social media hole and kids aren't discussing who their favourite youtube celebrities are.
Celebrity worship is disgusting and the digital age has only enhanced it, in the sense of people find it much easier to follow and spend hours pretending to be friends with someone online and that celebrities are being made of people with no real talent, they just kind of exist. There are 14 year old guys who look like One Direction's little brothers who have millions of fans of girls from 10-18. He has as much talent as anybody else who's able to converse in the most simplistic way but he's attractive and famous and that's why he continues to grow.
YouTube is just a company trying to make money, there's nothing really wrong with them and they provide a perfectly good service. As much as I hate to say it, places like Youtube exist freely for me because of the funding from people too stupid to use adblock

Sure you could go out for hours and do a funny prank and post it to YouTube for a chance of a few bucks but that likely won't get you a big channel. Now it's a competition for the top result in searches. They probably research the keywords to find a slot for a niche prank that will top the search engine then hire some desperate actors and make a shocking and funny video.
Upoad it and get some view and like bots to get it started and ranking high from the start then sit back and take in the cash.
If they are really smart they will make a blog channel where people tune in everyday for their below average content with no entertainment or educational value.
But in the end it's the people watching the videos that feed the market for shit content.
