I think you're just using a completely different mental image for "magic" than what I have in mind for it. I don't mean "magic" in the sense of programming and math just work with no explanation. I mean it in the sense that these are systems of methods for making things happen in a way that most people will only see the results of rather than be aware of all the little steps that actually made it happen. Because it's something most of the people I work with at my office don't know anything about and it gets results that keep me on salary and pay my bills it's something that feels like a sort of magic certain people get initiated into and learn how to do while non-programming normies are only aware of the effects of it.
Sure you could have the attitude of "it's just steps a computer goes through, there's no magic there," but that's not a very interesting perspective to hold.
