I liked Portugal because the people seem more responsible for themselves in a way, there is less government interferences, people are just trusted not to be dicks. There is no real social class system in Portugal, rich kids hang out with and live next too normal kids and poor kids, this means there is no chavs as people don't have the excuse of 'boohoo I was born poor so I am going to be a dick' because all of their peers will judge them for being a dick. The only divide exists between black people and white people. There are poor neighbours which are dangerous but these are African slums.
I also like how nowhere feels dangerous. I can be in Lisbon city center all hours of the morning any given day and I never feel an element of danger, even at 1 or 2am on a Friday night it is a family friendly place to be. They do not have a binge drinking culture there so you do not have a problem with angry pissheads.
Also everything stays open really late. Shops in the mall stay open until midnight even on weekdays and bars and pubs in the city stay open until 4am with bands being allowed to play until 3am. This means there is no rush to do anything. Now I am back in England I want to go buy something in town but it is already 3pm and I think 'I'll wait until tomorrow I don't want to rush' whereas in Portugal you have until midnight.
Those are the main reasons I prefer Portugal to England.
Also the weather obviously, more hot girls, very few fatties, the beach, good and cheap beer in some fantastic pubs and decriminalised drugs.

I basically got tired of wageslaving in England so decided to move to Portugal on a whim and I taught private English classes mainly to kids while I was out there. I am back in England now because I've decided I want to try to save up loads of money so I can move back there permanently.
