Who /art/ here?
Trying to teach myself after years of not doing any art, got a cheapo drawing tablet and everything
Pretty much focusing on anatomy right now but this shit is hard, thought I'd take a break and just draw random stuff for you fags for shits and giggles.
Anyone else who does artsy shit feel free to jump in and make me look even worse
>>25256788
My 'art' degenerates more and more in an unconscious attempt to justify my inability to represent.
>>25256788
Michael Hampton, just torrent his shit and stay off the Internet so you can focus. Trust me if you want to improve just draw a lot and self analyze. I would post some of art but I'm already in bed(phone) and haven't done anything in a while.
>>25256847
that looked like 2 bugeyed klansmen to me at first, but now I see the fucked up eyes and nose shadow, little bit of mouth too
>>25256854
I'm grabbing the Loomis artbook off the /ic/ sticky tomorrow.
Today is literally my first day with my new tablet, I have some slightly better physical drawings in a sketchbook somewhere but I'm not gonna bother finding them.
>>25256868
>fucked up
I am too modest to say my drawings represent my feelings.
>Tfw don't have my tablet with me
Ah, have this penis drawn on my phone instead
>>25256883
Here I actually have a really old drawing on my SD card. I think Looomis is an alright start but don't focus too much on it, it's really only good for getting some basic structure down.
>>25256948
Why is it smiling, Anon?
>>25256991
Why wouldn't it be smiling?
>>25256847
>>25256885
if it's alright I tried redrawing your posts as faces based on how I interpret them
>>25257139
Congratulations on decoding the hand in the first one, as well as that the hair was long. Though the mouth was closed really and the look was of being defeated (let's be honest) than of fear.
In the second one (my first) I just unconsciously went for macabre/some sort of 'melting alive' effect, I suppose.
This is the last one I have and most cliched (this is because I age).
>>25257139
>redrawing your posts as faces
Also, what did you mean by that? Those *were* faces from the beginning! (Just kidding.)
trying to practice some cartooning/silhouette stuff now
post random shapes and I'll try to turn them into a simplistic cartoon face/character
>>25256788
same shit here man, try loomis fun with a pencil vilpuu is good too, you can pick up a copy over at /ic/. what kind do you have ?
>>25257455
Wacom One, it was cheap online and it's breddy gud
>>25256883
There are often book threads on /ic/ as well, you can find some that might help you.
>>25256788
Which software will you be using?
Tried to learn how to draw once. Only thing I learned that I was to stupid for it.
>>25257648
I'm on Krita cuz it's free, though I'll likely drop the fifty bucks or so for Paint Tool SAI once I get going
>>25257675
anon I'm legitimately talentless
art is a skill not a natural ability despite what shitheads will try to tell you
I like to doodle
You guys should try animation just for fun.
Pic related, Its really fucking satisfying
>>25257704
It's hard to learn any skill if you are stupid robot like me. Intelligence, memory and imagination are needed in art.
>>25257537
nice , are you running SAI ?
>>25257704
>art is a skill not a natural ability despite what shitheads will try to tell you
Motivating does not justify lying, much less accusing people telling the truth liars -- much less ascribing to those people the desire to discourage. You are a shit person.
>>25257829
>>25257704
>inb4 the 'I'm not telling you you can become the next Picasso' strawman
>>25257724
>Rick and Morty fanart where Rick is basically a beautiful 25 year old saiyan
I hate that shit, but at least that booty be poppin. You are not bad
>>25257829
art is literally not a natural ability
some people have an aptitude to learn some of the tools of draw/paint faster than others, but there's no biological tendency that will make you come out of the womb doing art the way some people come out with aptitudes in physical ability or mathematics
the idea that it artistic talent is innate comes from the fact that most 'natural' artists did art throughout their whole childhood and few people ever saw their dogshit early work
But at the end of the day it is easier to construct arguments against motivation than it is to actually do work
>>25257929
>art is literally not a natural ability, some people have an aptitude to learn some of the tools of draw/paint faster than others, but there's no biological tendency that will make you come out of the womb doing art the way some people come out with aptitudes in physical ability or mathematics
Translation of your backpedalling:
>art is literally not a natural ability, some people just have a natural ability
Also:
>grasping at ways to minimize the amount of talent required, being thoroughly conscious that 'talent is not an important' is a wholly unfalsifiable (unquantifiable) claim and can literally always be used safely, and thus use of it betrays intellectual irresponsibility
Also:
>fucking pathetic strawman of 'coming out of the womb doing art'
Also:
>But at the end of the day it is easier to construct arguments against motivation than it is to actually do work
>insulting people implying that they don't draw themselves (it is not relevant if I personally do or don't, what matters is you just used an assumed ad hominem)
I hate manipulators who obscure the truth. I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate.
>>25257929
>>25258033
>>insulting people implying that they don't draw themselves
Or not even that, but just trying to silence people you disagree with with 'if you criticize me, this means you don't want to draw (because you're talking and not drawing), thus you are not a true artist, therefore you're wrong by default'.
I hate manipulators.
>>25257929
Everything is down to natural ability. Hard work can only get you so far.
>>25258033
>>25258070
Oh don't be faggots just post your arts you whores.
Here's mine
>>25258140
More artfaggggytry
meanwhile, this guy came out as a chicken-legged Dwarf thing. I think I need to put the tablet down until I get some art books setup tomorrow, I'm getting worse and worse

pic related is about the best I got out of today and it had like 3-4 layers and was done off a study image
basically, I can't draw for shit from scratch
>>25258151
This doodle got complimented by stranger normies a lot
>>25258197
it's like I can see the lip botox in 3D!
>tfw 30yo and its like 20 years to late to start
>>25258154
>>25258189
Stop using a tablet.
buy this thing called "newsprint" (they come in huge rims and are cheap) and some cheap art store charcoal. Get a large board and some clips. Then draw. if no real life model, copy from pictures
If you really are still lazy get an a3 sized drawpad and a graphite 8b pencil
>>25258197
Hey that's pretty good
It's like you're creating as realistic effect as you can with as little effort as possible. (squiggly line for shading on the cheek for instance)
>>25257879
How can you not like hot Rick?
And thanks. I work hard on the booty
>>25258166
One more, because fuck you, because you said ITT that talent doesn't matter and I'm spiteful.
>>25258264
>drop one medium for an entirely different medium
>this will instantly make your art better
no
>>25258264
Seconding this. Go take some life drawing lessons or find some casual sessions in your city. They'll do more for you than drawing on a tablet will.
>>25258496
t. someone whose experience with art is limited to doodling in the margins of their notes
>>25258522
As I already said, I'm getting artbooks of /soc/ starting tomorrow.
I know I lack a good deal of fundamentals, but I also have some fundamentals down pat that I just can't quite translate into anatomy yet. Much of today was also spent just learning the ins and outs of working with my tablet and art program
art lessons and instruction are definitely something I'll look into when I feel I have a specific area I need to grow in, right now I'm just getting basics down pat in a medium I've never worked with
>>25258553
I've done newsprint drawings and basic anatomy and gesture drawings a few years back in highschool, and they don't magically make you better any more than the undo button on a tablet does
>>25258585
>/soc/
what?
meant /ic/
I need to go to sleep
>>25258608
>a few years back in highschool
Thank you for proving my point.
>>25258585
I don't think you're quite grasping how important understanding anatomy is. To be frank, the "studies" you've posted so far have a lot to be desired, and don't try to excuse it with being unfamiliar with tablets.
>>25258731
At no point have I ever insinuated I'm not dogshit at anatomy. As I've stated multiple times itt, today was for figuring out how to work the tablet, get some basic shit done, and tomorrow I'm picking up art books and getting started on the real long-haul work.
It's very telling of you that you see someone posting basic work with no reservations and immediately assume they're trying to bullshit their way out of things. Projecting, maybe?
>>25256788
Been self teaching myself for almost a year now, dabbling in animation. Here's something kinda old.
>>25258585
Just keep practicing with your tablet to get comfortable with it. Did you just get it? I know it took about a week before I felt comfortable with mine. It felt more slippery or something than paper.
Also about the drawing from life thing. It is a great way to study anatomy and you should get into it but there's no need to stop the digital work.
>>25258922
I remember seeing this on /ic/ a while ago. Really fucking nice, especially the part with the flowing fabric on the dude.
Me on the other, I used to draw autistic shit. Ended up quitting art. Pic related
>>25259006
this looks exactly like Steven Universe
>>25258980
yeah, today was my first day with the tablet
I don't have a desk setup so it's just resting next to me on my bed, which I'm sure is making my lines a lot scragglier than they should be but I also don't naturally draw straight, something I'm sure I'll have to work on
I know the value of drawing from life and doing studies from real people for both gesture drawing and anatomy
>>25259047
>this looks exactly like Steven Universe
Yeah, I used to draw alot of SU fanart
>>25258140
I like it anon
is my art boring? I don't really do much to it :x feel like I am not creative enough
>>25259047
I also draw crooked. Which actually works out better with the tablet. You can always tilt it and edit easily in photoshop or whatever you use. Also try putting a piece of computer paper or tracing paper over the tablet. It makes lines smoother while you're getting adjusted
>tfw woodburning kit
>tfw sanded walnut planks and hand-cut oak log planks from my dad
>tfw want to start but not sure what to do
I used to really be into drawing but I don't do it anymore, wanted a change of pace. What'd look good, a bear or some shit? I know this is pretty much a draw thread but I don't care
>>25259579
Make an animay waifu
>>25259545
>Also try putting a piece of computer paper or tracing paper over the tablet. It makes lines smoother while you're getting adjusted
I'll try this out actually, seems neato
>>25259579
woodburning stuff is awesome man
some wildlife is usually a great start, so long as you can get the form down
Something I just did. Need to move away from animu shit.
>>25259220
Don't actively try hard to be creative. Sorry for meme'ing you but B E Y O U R S E L F

bananafucker
I've tried a few times to get into drawing, but once I get past the 'how do I shot penicl' stage I remember I have zero imagination and can't do anything but copy from reference
I'm going to try again next year, but seriously
how do I learn creativity?
>>25260577
Learn constructive drawing techniques after you learn how to copy two dimensional images, try FWAP or a perspective book. For the figure, learn basic proportion and anatomy through Loomis' Figure Drawing (don't neglect gesture in your learning, though.) The only way to draw from imagination is to grind it. The only way to do is to do. You can't do much for your imagination drawing by not drawing from imagination.
>>25260577
practice cartooning
silhouettes are some of the best creative means to get your juices flowing
for example, try random shape cartooning like
>>25257704
>>25260618
>>25260663
That's pretty helpful, thanks guys.
>>25256788
study off diagrams and fashion photos,i have a stash if you want them, it helps a lot more than skellys etc.
>>25260931
actually, I'm more interested in how people learned to do the loose construction of faces like that. I'm terrible at faces, I throw down too many hard lines and shapes
>>25260951
I wouldn't look up to that, if you look at the eyes and the lips are it's obvious that whatever impression of structure you're getting isn't very good. The eyes are spaced in such a way that shows the artist knows that 1 eye goes between the two spacing wise, but in his symbolic habit of making them too large while adhering to this rule he ends up expanding the face plane.
>>25261032
I'm just referring to the loose lines in general, it's a common thing I see in stylized face drawing and I'm wondering how people picked that up.
Anything would be better than how I draw right now
>>25260951
i just do the jawline first and everything else is just general knowledge
>>25261032
thanks, taking it into consideration senpai,

>>25258197
I like the lips, it makes her look creepy.
>>25258140

I just draw gay animu stuff for friends sometimes.
This was from March.
>>25261876
I like this, but the hand area is too busy.

>>25256788
I did this in Paint whilst watching Bob Ross
d-did i do good..?
>tfw you know how to draw
>tfw you want to digitize your art and make it look more professional
pls halp, what programs or software are you fags using?
what matter of sorcery is this?
>>25262271
I use Paint :DD
>>25262273
paint sucks.
truth be told i have a bit of experience and apparently tablet pcs are the way to go.
also apparently manga studio is great. I like to do stupid little comic style fics with panels and the whole deal and wanted to know if i was going in the right direction.
>>25262298
If you are looking to go down the cintiq route i recommend you save yourself 1000$ and just get a wacom medium that you can learn in a week and achieve the same result.
>>25262298
Any correction is the right one when you're drawing. You can't aspire to draw precisely like someone else, but as you keep drawing you'll create your own style!
>>25262308
Of course. It's a relaxing and enjoyable exercise and when I'm drawing characters, I feel like I get really closer to them. I love drawing for that reason alone.
I didn't mean to give you the impression that I was hung up on drawing like someone else, but I will say when doing a character, the closer I get the better.
>>25262233
By the way this is awesome. :D
>>25262343
Thank you. C:
I printed it out and gave it as a gift on christmas eve, it was appreciated
>considering making more
>>25262349
I mean, who did you give it to?
>>25262357
My parents. I hope to move out relatively soon, so I bullshitted the gift as "i want you guys to have this, like on the wall, to remember me by :))"
I haven't seriously drawn for about eight or so years. I think my inability to adapt to the structure life drawing demands is what made me lose all interest in art. I hate to admit that, but on the other hand I do want to tackle it once more and get the structuring down and conquer it so I can actually find joy in drawing again. As of now I have a hard time putting the pencil to the paper.
I want to be free.
>>25262305
It's worth a look.
I think a tablet, photoshop and manga studio is a good starting point.
Any other ideas? It makes me wonder how people digitized their work before the advent of tablets.
>>25262379
Well before i gave up and got a job and now only draw/animate for funusing a laptop trackpad like pic related i used a wacom bamboo medium and i really cant recommend it enough. It's smooth, feature packed and i never once in many years of use felt like it was a hindrance. They went for around 250$ back then but probably much cheaper now.
>>25260577
hey so i drew this crap guide for you. as far as faces/heads go i start with a circle, draw the eye line then the nose line, outline the jaw and then fill in the nose. other people do it differently but this is what works for me. everyone has their own process and i think a big part is mimicking what you like before finding your own distinct style.
honestly it took years of drawing eyes upon a face before i instinctively got how eyes/eye sockets relate to the rest of the skull. it takes time and a lot of practice. at some point you can usually tell how old an artist is by how well they've mastered rendering things realistically.
>>25260577
one more.
it can be a challenge to denote different genders through a basic silhouette until you reverse engineer how the body fits together. the difference is in the hips. women have a peanut/hour glass shape, men have a tapered trapezoid (parallelogram?)
start with a stick figure then block it out into either a male or female shape.
>>25261876
Looks nice but the highlights are pretty random you could just remove most of them.
