Welcome back to the five or so players who regularly lurk/play this series! Currently it looks like the Island Nation is going full SPQR with colonies n' shit, the Plains Nation got bread and is going mongols n' shit, the Sky Nation is going all dwarves n' shit, and the Lake nation really really want bear pets though they already have a monster pet who's still alive after like 40 years(?).

Updating turns shortly, I'm pretty sure I have everybody. Also, its about time a world event's gonna happen, so don't spam me with your next turn :DD

Lake nation researches fermentation, but they forgot they already discovered that nearly half a century ago during their first scientific rennaissance! They also research bottlemaking, though it will take them a long time to be able to manipulate molten sand into desirable shapes.

The upkeep for bear domestication cuts into potential population increase, but their sole bear is somewhat comfortable in his cage. Fewer bear incidents have occurred while studying it. It appears that the bear requires a large diet of fish and only fights when provoked. Though Lake nation does not have a patron god, they do have some abilities to speak with natural animals, and who knows, perhaps within the near future they may be able to speak with beasts...

A scout is also sent to the Plains village of Ulan Batur asking to trade for horses. A reply is still pending.

The Island Nation do some real nation building this turn, taking lessons they've learned from the Lake Nation tide mill and applying it to their grains basket in Pompeii. They export the produce from their newly built farms to Winterfell, and as a result Winterfell flourishes in population, at least moreso than in previous years! Winterfell also has more housing to accomodate the expected increase in population.

Sky Nation decides to expand closer to the desert in order to spread Sky's domain across multiple regions. They now join the 4 cities club.

They also renovate their communal living caves by laying smooth brick along the interior. Though it makes the caves look smaller, It makes the place really nice to look at.

They also train their elk to draw carriages which they built with wood and wheels! Now they can travel within their nation at much faster paces, improving (if they want) intranational trade and commerce.

Plains nation also do some hardcore nation building! They expand the number of houses and wheat farms in each village! Since the last diseased of the Necromancer's disease are dying out, the colonies actually have a population increase! It is expected that before the decade is up, Karakorum will have a fully immune plague population.

Everyone sends scouts nearby, but unfortunately due to the lower population and large land they now have, it was difficult locating resources. Perhaps next year, more perceptive scouts will find something?

Event 2: Banditry!

With the increase in population comes the increase of social outcasts from all walks of life! An international conspiracy of bandits 100 strong are disrupting trade routes and travel within the cities of the world! Plains horsemen, Islander legions, Sky lowlanders, even some bored lakemen join the ranks! You don't know where their hideouts are, or who their leader is, if they even have one! You can send people to look for them, though it will cost a turn and is extremely risky! You may never know if a bandit is among your citizens or not either, who knows what they plan to steal...

Under this event, Trade is impossible! Every hideout that is succesfully ousted will reduce the probability of a trade or travel being overcome by bandits! How will the leaders of the known world deal with this menace?

With this new mechanic, lets begin Turn 10!

The plains nation was going to make a siege crossbow, but realized they didn't even know how to make a regular crossbow, which requires large resources of wood! Fortunately, scouts realized that not so far from their river settlement in the east was a lush forest! However, they still need to learn the art of woodcutting before they can harvest whole trees. Shouldn't take too long to discover though, as their neighbors have done it for decades! (Before this point plains nation has scavenged fallen branches for their wood)

They also build brick walls around each of their cities. It will take at least a decade before construction of the walls of an appropriate height and width are built.

The Island nation attempts to export bread to feed their capital and increase population, but they fail the bandit check of 10 from a 1d10 and have their produce stolen before it could even reach the islands! The monk and warrior senate is astonished at how this could happen five years in a row!

Rome is host to the first brothels! Though this increases the population, monks worry at how this affects their relationship with the Lake Lady, as they fear such rampant degeneracy might damage their spiritual connection.

Finally, they learn steelmaking from their brother nations! The iron supplied by the northern colonies is the bloodline of the steel industry, but they should be careful of exporting the weapons to other areas as banditry is out of control...

A party is sent out to find the bandit camp. While resting in a natural cave, they find the interior and exterior painted with a language in black unintelligible to the Sky nation. They find the whole site empty, forcing them to ask questions. Is this the bandit's cave? Are there more like this one? Will they return to this site?

Guards are instated in every village to discourage banditry. Though citizens are definitely behaving themselves, some wonder if the guards are enjoying their roles a bit too much...

On the bright side, the Sky nation join Lake and Island in the literate club! Their language is similar to Island as they also developed it from representations of the runes they paint on their skins.

If lake replies soon, I'll do their turn, else, see y'all tomorrow!

The lake nation set a trap to try and ambush the bandit party. They succeeded and lured a party of 10 bandits, but they lost eight men and managed to slaughter all but one who fled the scene and will no doubt inform the bandits of the ambush tactics of the lake nation.

The bear domestication yields progress! Proficient bird speakers learn the language of the beasts, and can command the bear to do simple tasks, though the bear is still a free spirit and will only comply when offered some incentive.

It is customary to have large families, but the population doesn't grow unless there are more farms. The lake nation would have built more farms, but that would make four actions in one turn...

Sky nation builds multiple towers in between trade routes of their colonies. The massive structures are expected to be completed after 12 years.

Laws are established limiting guard's powers to prevent abuse of power, while simultaneously issuing guards to protect trade caravans between cities. Fewer incidents of banditry occur along the roads, and the sky nation can trade colonies resources in between each of their own cities relatively safely.

Plains nation issue members to become lumberjacks in their alpine colony of Kobdo. The lumber is used not only to supply crossbows, but also to build stronger wooden structures.

They attempt to send an emmisary to the bandit chief three times. The third emmisary returned alive, stating that the bandits are willing to trade their loot for large quantities of food, weapons, and horses.

The plains nation has still not responded to the request with lake nation to trade for horses, though with the recent mutual tolerance of the bandits, it seems unlikely they will without the bandits thieving the horses away.

Legions are posted on trading boats, reducing possibilities of trade on the coasts, though rumors surface of bandits taking boats of their own and interfering with the shipments on route...

Still, the measure increases their population increment by one, forgoing a potential higher count by incidental bandit raids in towns.

Legionaries are put through a military structure and posted outside of cities in forts to train. This causes a shift in bandit conspirators working more within cities to export to their base camps.

Steel helms are a symbol of the Island Legion.

With the sudden expansion of farms and fisheries, the population increases tremendously, but the value of fish and crops changed dramatically. The barter based economy is threatened as neither crops nor fish become desirable trade quantities as they are huge in quantity, yet that is all most have to trade.

Fortifications are also improved around towns, with atlatl guards posted around them, scaring off bandit raids along the frontiers.

The hydra is approaching the end of its life as well, and is growing sickly. To honor its legacy,
the farmers adopt it as a mascot of their party. To counter the action, the fishers adopt the bear as its party's symbol.

The Parthian archers mounted on light horse, while retreating at a full gallop, would turn their bodies back to shoot at the pursuing enemy. The tactic also could be used during feigned retreat, with devastating effect.

Op is lazy edition

Lake nation enters a trade deal with the island folk. What they didn't realize was that atlatls and shields were regularly raided on route by bandits, but within the half decade both nations have a less than decent supply of each other's weapons, among other items.

A form of currency is created to solve the barter issues. It becomes widely acceptable, though its usage is limited to domestic trade. Bandits also create a conterfeiting industry with the shiny gravel, though it is not very large at the moment.

They consider finding a mate for the hydra, but they remember that it came from a freaking meteor. The hydra is more stationary, and seems to only move two of its heads as of late.

Winter's Refuge makes widescale potato farms. Their population grows at a significantly faster rate.

Houses are built in the caves of Altodomino, along with an aqueduct. The city is able to host even more people than previously, and can afford larger population increases.

The plains nation were considering a really aggressive action, but after remembering they had no in-game reason to suddenly chimp out they planned this move: >>168010

A new colony is established in the south! Iron and gold ore are now accessible to the Plains nation!

New buildings based on professions are created. Most of them are weapon based.

The bandits respond that their treasure includes all material that is exported between colonies, which include:

Islander scouts are sent from their plains colony to find horses, but they must establish a colony deeper inside the plains to properly capture the horses.

They also send dove scouts to find the bandit's potential hideouts. Of the seven scouts sent, six were shot by arrows, but the survivor returned with a confirmed location somewhere near the lake and plains border. The scout also confirmed that bandits seemed less aggressive around plains settlements, issuing concerns that the plains nation are behind the raids?...
It is a medium sized encampment with around 20 people, and its unclear if its permanent or not.

More farms are built in Pompeii, and their population grows faster.

ok guys, since the bandits arent stealing from us as much i think we should focus on colonizing more land to the north east and north west. We should close off all the plains because its our home climate. Additonally were comming into conflict with other nations more frequently. We need to close off our borders from attackers. We need more cities and settlements next to the river. Also maybe we could do a Mesa Verde thing and build settlements into cliffs in our southern border if were running out of land. Lake nation mass produces alcohol from their grain supply. It greatly enhances incentive to work, and is often purchased as an item for festivals and social gatherings. They also outsource bandit justice to vigilantes looking for bounties. In order for the state to afford bounties, however, a hefty sum of uncounterfeitable currency must be produced.

A third political party is born: The Lake Party! They believe that the lake people should worship the deity the island worships, being the Lake Lady, in order to gain her blessings and learn their magic. Their numbers grow thanks in part to magic enthusiasts, island born citizens, and super-radical fishermen. Both the Farm and Fisher parties are extremely opposed to the party, and often have to ally together to defeat the Lake party in the voting rounds.

The hydra breathes its final breath, and dies at the end of the five years. The farm party erects a monument around the beast to commemorate its life.

Sky nation improve their sky temple so its higher into sky's domain and has beautiful glass structures, which they themselves researched, bringing it divine skylight.

Research begins into a sort of weapon that launches projectiles with the assistance of gunpowder. A huge number of prototypes are developed, but before the decade is up, a working prototype is expected to be launched. In order to mass produce it though, the nation would need to train gunsmiths and gunmen, as well as mine large amounts of gunpowder, wood, metals, etc.

The plains nation construct a huge forge where they can upgrade all their weapons to iron versions. Of course, they still need to collect the ore from their mining town before they can produce the weapons, but still, good for them!

The head chief sanctions that all horses on the plains must be captured so that no others can have them. Unfortunately, their stables are unable to accommodate so many horses, and some were forced to kill their horses for extra food, providing a minor population boost in some towns.

The bandits came back... at least partially. It turns out the bandits are NOT one unified body, though they tried to be for many years. Six bandit chiefs operate along the plains, mountain, and forest borders, and only two took up our offer of taking land and becoming vassals. One would take it if his band would not have to become vassals, and the others laugh at the thought that the plains nation even has land to give.
Plains nation has two plots of land they can give to vassals! Each bandit camp is 15 strong, place your regions on the map if you prefer, or I will assign them.

Tthe island nation scout and find horses, finally! It seems the plains nation hasn't scoured every single horse! Their town of Arcanum is the prime spot for horses and other plains resources, and they quickly learn domestication after observing tricks that sky uses for elk domestication and plains uses for horse domestication. Arcanum should be wary though, as occasional horse thieves ride off to what some can only surmise as bandit camps!

Brothels are also banned, pleasing the Lake Lady, who promises to meditating monks a more magical apt generation in the coming years.
