My religion basically says that's possible. Basically, people who write stories are both receiving and sending signals from and to alternate universes, and our universe is likewise being affected by authors in other worlds. You can't possibly effect your own world, but you can promote people to promulgate your memes until people insert the pop culture references in their own stories. Once in a while, one of the people who write for our world (because all worlds are written by at least one person from every other universe), puts one of those pop culture references into the story.
