/b/ used to be one of the golden examples and
meme generator of 4chan,
a place that as pic related says was a place to lose your humanity

Why is it just porn, shitty "what should i text" threads, kik threads, and general just boring mess

so how can we add a breath of fresh air to that
shithole
>>
have a robot like /r9k/ but have it reset every 24 hours

We can't. Memes are dead, that era is over.

Gotta move on.
>>
We don't need memes. Just make /b/ a redirect to a site we all dislike.

/b/ gradually lost all it's shoopers and drawfags. I'd say the last of them left by 2012 or so.

It's just that nobody is interested in the place anymore. people who browse just see it as a gag or niche fap board.

I know, just split the board. Since it's a bigger board, we an split it four ways instead of just two. We an have /bu/, /bd/, /bl/, and /br/ for up, down, left and right respectively. I think it's a good idea and will fix shitposting for three months until we split it again.

Because /b/'s culture, like all cultures, changes over time. It's never, ever going to be like it was 10 years ago, no matter what. So you may as well accept it.

True.

I mean the "good ol' days" are never really as good as people pretend it was.

They only do that to make themselves seem cooler.

Fuck.

/b/ is dead, the old internet is dead, faggot. Raids are edgy, gore is edgy, memes are cringeworthy and your post is considered edgy and cringeworthy nowadays. Just move on.

/b/ was never fully dedicated to funposting. I remember seeing actual discussion on /b/ a few years ago.
>>
>>324300
>>324281
How fucking new are you?

underageb&'s definitely, but not a single person on /b/ was normal until the 10s. And even then you'd get people talking about the "good old days" where you could trade cp.

Unless you consider pedophiles normal. That's some nice self.esteem you gotta have.

>>
>>324620
What the fuck are you even talking about? Weeaboo and weeb are terms created by /b/.
>>
>>324460
It really isn't. I don't understand why people always say this.
>>
>>323747

Well it seems that "4chan" is reluctant to hire mods for /b/ for some reason.
Rumors about the feds monitoring /b/ aside, this is the biggest problem.

We need people that will crack down on shit that doesnt belong on /b/, or even on 4chan.

Get rid of the "faces of /b/" threads, for example.
I know there isnt a rule against it, but holy shit what kind of raging faggot wants to post his face on goddamned 4chan of all places? Used to, people wouldnt dare do that.
That alone attracts the wrong kind of people to the site. This isnt facebook.

Another example is all the porn threads. /b/ isnt for porn. There's specific boards for porn and people need to use them. People are posting pics of their ex, posting /r/equests, etc.

This is going to sound kind of stupid, but /b/ used to be some kind of gatekeeper for this site.
/b/ is often the first board that people visit when using this site for the first time. And using that board taught people how to post here. If someone didnt want to deal with /b/ then they often simply left.

/b/ used to be filled with gore, really weird porn, racism, trolling, links to viruses, links to more really weird porn, furries (only on Friday, of course), people accidentally revealing their identity and causing a shitstorm, advice on how to create mustard gas, greentext stories, mods banning you because it was funny, and people asking advice on how to beat off onto their sleeping 11 year old cousin and how to get away with doing so.

As much as you all despise that board there actually was some sort of quality requirement before you got told to fuck off.
But now that requirement is gone and it's spreading through the rest of the site. And for some reason people want to blame /b/ itself and not the people going there.

Now how do you fix this shit? Well, faggot I cant tell you. You cant FORCE people to post.
/b/ needs some actual moderators that do something other than make sure people dont post CP and ignore everything else.

Ban obsession threads (boxxy, chloe, ect.), GET threads (use a post number system similar to the old text boards to help prevent GET threads), porn dumps (we have fucking porn boards, use them), fap roulette threads, and threads like "my name is John" that are posted 10 million times per day.

I don't see why people think /b/ is so bad. It's just "dubs decides" with op delivering only half the time, about the same as always. Meme-making is cancer.

>>324232
you mean like 4chan.org ?
>>
>>328575
we're honestly getting some great ideas here and i think everyone would agree that they would work
it would be game changing and i think it would really revitalize a board that i think the majority of older 4chan users have just begun ignoring
now the more specific boards are generating memes and actual content while /b/ is boring
>>
We need to encourage people to create original content somehow.

/b/ is only bad because everyone goes there to find something edgy to post on their social networking site
then it just ends up being the same shit every day
and people actually post pictures from facebook
>>328575
>>328575
>>328575
>>
Honestly, I think part of the problem is that with all of the new boards that have been created, there's jack shit left to post on /b/ that wouldn't be better suited to another board. So you just get left with the normie shitposts and roll threads and the millionth discussion about why atheists may or may not be able to define atheism, featuring cryingchildlikeempress.jpg.
>>
/b/ is the worst and most famous board, and that's perfect as it is. It's like a wall made of shit that no one wants to touch.

Here's moot's answer from an old /q/ thread:

19 Nov 2012
>>291035
Last month was actually our highest traffic month ever, in terms of unique visitors. Pageviews have gone down as more users use the inline extension and

third-party extension, mobile, and thirdy-party API apps, block analytics JS, etc.

Growth has slowed, but I don't equate that with "dying." If anything, I imagine the site would be a hell of a lot better if we returned to the size it was ~5

or so years ago. So maybe as it "dies," we'll experience another golden age.
>>
>>328829
Are you? You seem afraid of tackling the problem.
>>
what>>329496
>>
The solution is for everyone to just fucking lighten up and stop nagging everyone else about correct meme usage or when is the right time to use memes or who is an oldfag and who isn't. Because all that is doing is causing massive stagnation.
When it comes to humor just let people do whatever the hell they want. Complaining about people who aren't funny or trying to police humor kills the mood way faster than any bad or immature joke ever could, and it makes everyone else question whether there is even a point in creating OC anymore when half the people are just going to call it shit and even get upset at anyone who actually does find it funny.

Personally I'd like it if everyone just stopped using the word meme altogether and just call them "jokes" if you want. Maybe some people just can't handle having a special word for something without treating it like some sacred thing.

Of course nothing will change anyway, at least not as the result of anything we say in this thread.

>>
Ad a quiz like in Leisure Suit Larry to prevent kids from posting.
>>
>>324923
>This is going to sound kind of stupid, but /b/ used to be some kind of gatekeeper for this site.
Part of the problem is that's not the gateway board anymore, it's /v/ now. For one, you can't scare off undesirables because it's a blue board and really weird porn, gore, and advice on how to beat off onto your sleeping 11 year old cousin is just going to get deleted. And people don't really even get told to fuck off for posting stupid shit anymore because /v/ has gotten way too tolerant of all the wrong things. The quality requirement just does not exist there.
>>
Make a /b/ for porn, renovate the porn boards or ban porn on /b/ all together
>>
>>324923
this, so much this. I may have jumped on the ride in '10, but I remember horror stories about /b/ from '05 and '06 from friends in school, and it kept my underage ass away untill I felt edgy enough to shitpost eben memes.

>>323747
No one wants to fix /b/ due to the extreme measures it would take. In order to turn things around you'd need to:
> create a trap board and give trap threads the same treatment as mlp (instant bans for off board posts)
> create a fur board with the same features as above
> reintroduced IDs to /b/
> disable dubs on /b/ again

No one wants all that shit to happen, myself included, so /b/ will stay broken. Deal with it.
>>
>>330317
I'm actually surprised that after all this time we've never seriously had a discussion with mods or moot about how to "fix" /b/ or if it's even possible.

(At least that i'm aware of)
>>
>>330328
There were attempts to fix it before but when moot nuked /pol/ he also pulled the plug on those /b/ repair efforts by removing IDs and reintroducing dubs.

When those measures were in place /b/ was actually fairly functional.
>>
>>330317
Something also needs to be done about the endless YLYL, porn webm, and rekt threads. A lot of /b/ is under the assumption that there absolutely needs to be a YLYL thread at every given time of the day, plus some people just don't use the catalog and make their own which just ends up creating more clutter.
>>
>>331939
There does need to be a YLYL thread, but it needs to stand for Yuru Yuri.
>>
>>323747
/b/ got split up, most of the shit /b/ was known for now has a place somewhere else on the site ([s4s], /r9k/, /soc/, and now /trash/)

>>324812
[s4s] definitely does remind me of '06 era /b/, but [s4s] is far too nice and silly in comparison to really be old /b/.

>>330150
/v/'s lack of quality requirement is kind of awful, and it's way easier to have a decent discussion about shit that isn't videogame related at all there than to genuinely talk about games (as opposed to lazy shitflinging and bullshit off-the-cuff canned responses).

I think I only go there just because it's a fast board, the awful quality of posts is getting to me.

>>331939
honestly? those particular topics are like 5-10 of the threads on /b/ at a given time
roll threads are more of a cancer to /b/ than all of those things combined
