BTFO BY A FUCKING PET
lol the jews are in full damage control and try to say its a success or some shit but twitter is full of pics of empty theaters
look around on twitter or goybook and I guarantee you'll find some feminists gloating over how well the movie did while drinking male tears because they have no concept of cost / benefit, 45 million just SOUNDS like a big number
>>81465569
Today is a good day
It got beat out this weekend by a movie I've never even heard of that was released last week.
For comparison:
The Purge: Election Year grossed $31 million on its first weekend
Finding Dory grossed $135 million its first weekend
The Secret Life of Pets grossed $104 million on its first weekend.
Fembusters confirmed flop.
>>81466344

I hope stuff like this keeps happening, because all over every social media site all you see are glowing reviews from bot profiles. Facebook, Twitter and such need to be btfo.
You can't even connect with people through these social media sites, it's all fucking robots trying to sell you some shitty product.
Glad shit like this flops, I'm trying to avoid seeing this with my gf. I managed to educate her about blax and Muslims, but cracking the feminist nut is going to be slow fucking going.
>>81468861
>But it is a good number. This is how most normal movies hope to make.
Romania, I know you survive on begging outside my supermarket, but try to understand.
If you invest 10 dollars and get 20 dollars your profit is 10 dollars.
If you invest 150 million plus 150 million in marketing and get somewhere around 200 million, have you made money?
The answer is no. You're down 100 million.
And this is not even counting that the gross of the movie doesn't just go to the studio, because they have to split with the venues. Feig himself said the movie should make 500 million or more to be a moderate success.
The Ghostbusters movie had a $150 million budget, it did horribly only making that much opening weekend.
LOL, I think I'm going to go see Independence Day to celebrate the brexit

But it wasn't a 'normal' movie. It was billed as a 'must see' summer blockbuster with a huge budget , that used the name of a wildly popular classic to ensure a gorrilian goy shekels and cement the trend of trashing everything in the name of progress, and they fucked up.

>Fucking Kung Fu Panda 3 had a 41million dollar opening, was that a "flop" too?
Almost 3/4 of Kung Fu Panda's lifetime gross was the overseas market. Shit's HUGE in China. It was a strategic move on Dreamworks' part to release it during Chinese New Year, which is kind of a dead period in the states. As a result, the domestic opening weekend was sacrificed in favor of the Chinese market.
>>81471163
It's a failure when its the only movie on its first weekend. The first weekend is usually when a movie makes a good chunk of its money. Really good movies will sometimes have mediocre openings but perform strong for a few weeks to come due to good reviews. Ghostbusters did not get great scores on any review scoring site. Ghostbusters had incredible name-recognition and awareness, though. Probably more than any movie this summer other than Star Trek. That guarantees a decent opening weekend.
I'd guess there is probably a significant dropoff next week, because there's literally no one who is "just hearing about this." Word of mouth & free media was spent before the first ticket was sold.
>>81471132
About 100mil according to most sources
>>81469971
You are forgetting something, most of the money from movies now comes from overseas theaters. They used Ghosbusters reputation to make a quick buck in the US, but outside that the original movies weren't that big, so don't expect anything big outside US, and forget about China because they have a ban on anything that has dead people in it.
>>81468861
>he thinks revenue = gross
Let's say a movie ticket costs $10.
During the first few weeks the movie theater gets $2
The actors each get to split around $2-3. Given how huge of a deal this was, let's assume they split $2
That leaves $6 for the studio, where upon...
$0.50 goes to overhead
$0.50 goes to unions
$1.0 goes to distribution/marketing
Leaving $40 left for the studio to count as gross, or 40% of the actual sales.
So taking Ghostbuster's $46 million figure, the studio made a gross of about $18.4.
By all accounts this movie was a colossal failure.
>>81465569

>But I don't understand how the fuck was Mad Max Fury Road not considered a failure then. It had a 150 millions budget and made back 370, not 500 or more.
>>81469971
>But that's wrong you fucking retards. Mad Max had a 45 million weekend and they're still doing sequels for it.
It comes down to the financial side that's hidden from view, which is primarily marketing costs.
If you have a 150 million movie with just 50 million marketing, with 370 million gross you have a paper profit of 170 million which is respectable.
There is more to it than that and the numbers aren't straightforward. Mad Max is considered a mild financial success. It was a huge critical and viewer success however which is a big argument for investing further in the brand.
Secondary aspects include how much a movie is making on DVD/Bluray sales, streaming, TV airings etc. This is more long term, but it has saved many movies considered failures at launch and made them get sequels later.
Key to these numbers making Fembusters a pretty sure financial failure is that Feig himself confirmed the numbers had to be 500 million to be a mild success and that China (which is increasingly dominating which movies get a good multiplier) is not screening Fembusters at all.
Movie making is not a science and the industry is literally infested with jew economics, but it is possible to divine good or bad moves.

>>81474854
>You'd really think that they'd be sticking more asians into lead roles then
You can read about the changes the movie biz is making, it's interesting. So far it's not so much inserting asians, but it is part of the reason Kung Fu Panda is a huge merch and marketing success.
Studios are shoehorning in locations in asia or plot elements or movie themes that are at least configured to be okay with China.
The buzz is that Ghostbusters actually did change things with the movie looking to get around the Chinese ban on certain supernatural elements in movies, but that the censors ultimately decided against the movie because they thought it wasn't going to work (cited examples being that the earlier movies have not been shown there).
With the domestic market being increasingly just enough to recoup the movie making cost (not including marketing), the real money is in how much the foreign markets like your movie, and the biggest change there is China.
Look forward to more pro-China nonsense in your Hollyjew future.

Unfortunately Ghostbusters is such a huge brand that it is pretty much impossible to flop it, just like Star-Wars.

It wont "flop".

It won't make money in foreign markets because the foreign markets are exactly the reason movies regressed back to white male leads after progressive pushes in the 80s and 90s.
The foreign market really does not want to see woman or black people, and given that all the various Asian countries hate one another it's safer to just put a white guy in the lead role.
The foreign market is more important now than domestic and this movie does not stand a fucking chance in that market.
>This is true. There's an autist butthurt virginal reaction happening among a few spergs online.

So anon is right, its all about the staying power of the movie. Mad Max made less than ghostbusters opening weekend, had the same budget, and now has earned over $350 million.
>>81472625
Most of the tweets were written by people at like 1PM screenings, no wonder the theaters are empty at this time. Like I saw The Shallows at the same time today and there were three of us in the auditorium. Not indicative of the future gross per se.

You can try to rationalize that any way you want but in the end you have to admit is a fucking failure
>>81480688
Mad Max had almost no marketing and had a ton of good word of mouth.
And it's sexism push was just as it came out and while it was completely fabricated those worked up about it were able to go buy a ticket right there.
Those who were worked up about Ghostbusters have already moved onto something else. Ghostbusters has a nonstop marketing push that's flatlining. The movie was pretty much trending on a weekly, if not daily, basis and still managed to flop. It won't recover.
>>81480863
Didn't it pass 1 billion?
>>81480035
what are those couches doing outside?
>>81473451
Basically:
53% of domestic gross goes to the studio, the rest stays at cinemas.
They may work through official distributors abroad or just sell it to whoever. In the first case, they take royalty (up to the same 53% in some territories), in the latter one, they get money and don't give a second fuck. I remember the company I worked in at the moment bought the first Hunger Games for Russia and Ukraine for $6m, to give you an estimate of what the figures could be.
>>81474860
you can only write off so much with tax credits
they're still going to lose some money, it just won't be enough to kill the studio.
might end Feig's career though.
This is a lesson for all the gamergate useful idiots.
The only vote you have is as a consumer, vote with your money and keep shit like this from being made again.

Empty theaters are best theaters, that's why I try to go to the morning screening everytime. Unfortunately that means most of the time the popcorn will be from yesterday's so it doesn't taste as good.
Whether or not it is a complete failure, I think we can all agree that it is not the blockbuster they were hoping for. It's most likely not going to get a sequel and hopefully they will learn their lesson not to shove politics down moviegoers throats.

Early mornings can be pretty empty though, and weekdays can be wonderfully bare. The best time to go see a movie is a Tuesday morning. Theater as a whole tends to be empty. It's pretty comfy.
