This afternoon, I met a Syrian dude about my age at the train station. We were waiting for two different trains, but set next to each other, and he just started talking to me, because he was so happy - 2 weeks ago he had landed a job and today he signed the lease for an appartment, so he can go back to the temporary refugee home to get his wife and two kids (aged 4 and 7). He is from Aleppo and was a chef, fled in early 2015 to Turkey and then via the land borders to Bulgaria before the big refugee crisis. He told me he is so grateful for Germany and is happy that his family is safe and says he will work extra hard to make up for the support he has received so far. We talked in English, but he says that his kids already speak a lot better German than him and his wife and he want them to study hard so they'll have a future. His wife is also looking for a second job.
When my train came, I said good luck and he got up as well and asked whether he can shake my hand. He said today he is soo happy, it was a pleasure that he could tell a German about it.
I rather be a human being with a heart than a fucked up xenophobe. Let's imprison those who commit crimes, but those who fled war and want to work should stay until the war in Syria is over... but if they integrate well and work, they can stay as long as they like, I don't mind.
