Article 50 has not been invoked - chances are it never will.

Germany wants to bide it's time, give us chance to reconsider, and in the meantime they can tempt over the City of London and some of our juiciest manufacturing industry.

The Rest of the EU wants us to go quickly, regardless of Tory objections. Their patience as run out.

Boris doesn't actually want to leave the EU, and will go to great lengths to avoid activating Article 50.

There is a possibility that it happens, but there are several things you must understand.

Scotland's devolved parliament has no powers to call it. It MUST come from parliament, No.10 must say 'Scotland can have a referendum'. Hence if the government simply doesn't, it will never happen.

Secondly, the Scottish people are as divided as us down south on Brexit. They voted In, but not completely. They are still the nation that would have financially died if they went independent in 2014, perhaps even more so in 2016 with the oil. So Scotland requires EU membership guarantees before it can hold the referendum (or request permission to hold it), but the EU wants Brexit for the whole UK immediately. They don't want the UK held to ransom on UK constitutional issues. So it may be years before we actually get a new referendum, and by then the situation will have stabilized, Remain voters will have calmed down and the demand will be much less.

So really, it has very little chance of happening.
>>
>>78808960
Labour Splits into; Terrorist Labour (Ie Corbyn, Maodonnel etc), and Labour Democrats who will try and entice the real working class vote back from UKIP and the disgruntled members/MPs from Terrorist Labour.

Neither party would be big enough to win an election for a while, but the "new" labour would stand a much better chance of progressing into some sort of opposition. And this country needs a good opposition instead of the cack Corbyn provides

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/debate/article-2915032/PETER-HITCHENS-Don-t-like-PC-mob-makes-terror-threat.html

Using the excuse of terrorism – whose main victim is considered thought – Theresa May’s Home Office is making a law which attacks free expression in this country as it has never been attacked before.

We already have some dangerous laws on the books. The Civil Contingencies Act can be used to turn Britain into a dictatorship overnight, if politicians can find an excuse to activate it.

But the Counter-Terrorism and Security Bill, now slipping quietly and quickly through Parliament, is in a way even worse. It tells us what opinions we should have, or should not have.

As ever, terrorism is the pretext. Yet there is no evidence to suggest that the criminal drifters, school drop-outs and drug-addled losers who do much terrorist dirty work (and whose connections with vast worldwide conspiracies are sketchy to say the least) will be even slightly affected by it.

In a consultation paper attached to the Bill, all kinds of institutions, from nursery schools (yes really, see paragraph 107) to universities, are warned that they must be on the lookout for ‘extremists’.

But universities are told they have a ‘responsibility to exclude those promoting extremist views that support or are conducive to terrorism’.

Those words ‘conducive to’ are so vague that they could include anybody with views outside the mainstream.

What follows might have come from the laws of the Chinese People’s Republic or Mr Putin’s Russia. Advance notice of meetings must be given so that speakers can be checked up on, and the meeting cancelled if needed.

Warning must also be given of the topic, ‘sight of any presentations, footage to be broadcast, etc’. A ‘risk assessment’ must be made on whether the meeting should be cancelled altogether, compelled to include an opposing speaker or (even more creepy) ‘someone in the audience to monitor the event’.

Institutions will be obliged to promote ‘British values’. These are defined as ‘democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs’. ‘Vocal and active opposition’ to any of these is now officially described as ‘extremism’.

Given authority’s general scorn for conservative Christianity, and its quivering, obsequious fear of Islam, it is easy to see how the second half will be applied in practice. As for ‘democracy’, plenty of people (me included) are not at all sure we have it, and wouldn’t be that keen on it if we did.

Am I then an ‘extremist’ who should be kept from speaking at colleges? Quite possibly. But the same paragraph (89, as it happens) goes further. ‘We expect institutions to encourage students to respect other people with particular regard to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010’.

These ‘protected characteristics’, about which we must be careful not to be ‘extremist’, are in fact the pillars of political correctness – including disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, sex and sexual orientation.

The Bill is terrible in many other ways. And there is no reason to believe that any of these measures would have prevented any of the terrorist murders here or abroad, or will do so in future.

They have been lifted out of the box marked ‘try this on the Home Secretary during a national panic’, by officials who long to turn our free society into a despotism.

Once, there would have been enough wise, educated, grown-up people in both Houses of Parliament to stand up against this sort of spasm. Now most legislators go weak at the knees like simpering teenage groupies whenever anyone from the ‘Security’ or ‘Intelligence’ services demands more power and more money.

So far there has been nothing but a tiny mouse-squeak of protest against this dangerous, anti-British, concrete-headed twaddle. It will go through. And in ten years’ time we’ll wonder why we’re locking people up for thinking. We’ll ask: ‘How did that happen?’ This is how it happens.

but if they insist it was made then say the following, or something to the tune of it

It exposes the obvious corruption within the political establishment, as both sides have been exposed for blatant lies and scaremongering in order to play the British people

now that we no longer have to deal with Brussels and their obvious corruption we can begin to cause the collapse of out political establishment and bring the country back to its former glory

The only mechanism I can see is if a number of Blairite Tory MPs join with their counterparts in Labour who form a new party to circumvent the need for another leadership election (which Corbyn could win).

This would leave a gap for that new party we need.

There wouldn't be a majority in the commons any longer and we'd have another general election.

The Blairites would be purged by the electorate and the party would have a majority and a mandate to go into the EU negotiations.

The Labour coup is turning into a bit of a damp squib, the Unions have rejected it (90% of Labour funding at this point in time is Union-based) the soft-left (Tom Watson, Andy Burnham, Ed Miliband) etc who hate the Blairites as much as the hard-left are backing Corbs, and the membership (which has been swamped with 280,000 pro-Corbyn members since the leadership election) is gearing up for war.

There's a demo already being organised for outside the next meeting of the Parliamentary Labour Party, if there numbers are good enough there'll be a mini riot - just to put the fear of god into these pathetic cowardly traitorous Blairite wreckers.

UKIP has to make its mind up what kind of party it is now instead of just being a protest party if it wants to win a decent number of seats

There seems to be a lot of divisions on the inside on which way the party should go, they need to resolve them

The Expert Opinion right up well past the vote closing was that Remain was going to win.

Politicians follow expert advice. Look at how quickly Obama and Merkel congratulated us, with Obama going further to say it was all just bantz about that back of the line stuff.

Can someone explain what a "shadow" member is and why it's a huge deal that they resigned? It sounds like some new world order slang but after watching BBC is appears to be a legitimate government position

The European divide by those being nice to us and those insulting us is rather interesting.

From what I've seen thus far, The Swiss, the Swedish, the Norwegians, The Germans, the Austrians, the Portuguese, the Dutch and a few Spaniards here and there are supportive.

The Italians, the Romanians, the Hungarians, the Czech and the Polish come into the threads every now and again to shit things up.

Not really sure where to place the French, they haven't posted nearly enough. Same goes for the Irish.

>They're so fucked though

Not really. The only problem is the Blairites - and they're about to get dealt with.

If you take a look at both Labour's polling, as well as and by-election and local election results, it has them in the 31-33 sort of range, about 3 points behind the Tories (with a 3 point margin of error in most polls). This is about the same as the last election, perhaps 1 point up overall, but because the Tories are the ones that will have to govern through the crisis, and since there seems to be no-one at the wheel of the British govt at this particular moment in time,

Both Cameron and Osborne are deliberately sabotaging any sort of Boris-led Tory government before it even gets in office. Wait for Osborne to schedule a ton of really heavy cuts in pro-Tory areas just as the leadership election is taking place - purely so that Boris has to deal with the aftermath.

These people hate each other more than you can possibly imagine.

Our government is designed to be a two party state.
You have the party with the majority, eg the government, and you have the opposition.

The PM decides who takes a ministerial job, and there are about 200 places.

The leader of the opposition also chooses who would be the "shadow" ministers. The shadow ministers basically criticise everything the equivalent minister in the govt does.

Please fucking google next time.

Cheap political tactics to get people to try and save a symbol of national pride.
The problem is that no one in the campaign could promise shit and their goals end as soon as the box they want has been ticked.

I'm pretty sure a lot of people following the campaign had the mindset of two groups promising to do x, y and z.

Where it was actually a case of "I think that x, y and z would be cool, if you vote this way, it MIGHT happen but it won't be on my shoulders"
>>
>>78810878
>The countdown has begun. The decision has been made.

No decision has been made until Article 50 is invoked.

That won't happen until November at the earliest, and that depends on Boris winning a Tory majority which is far from certain now.

Essentially the Opposition has its own Let's Pretend cabinet that specialise in criticising government policy in their role, e.g finance by Shadow Chancellor. Often get the job they shadowed if they are elected and represent the Opposition leader's coterie of close advisers.

I've looked into it but I'd like to hear an explanation from an "everyman" if you know what I mean. From what I understand - officials are appointed who are of the opposing party, purposefully to avoid a one-sided cabinet and ensure that representatives from all sides are present in discussion.

What I don't quite understand is why exactly these specific people resigning is a huge deal.
