yeah children of men is a great movie, the Paris riots the other day reminded me a lot of that movie.
It's difficult to determine what will happen next. In terms of culture, pol tends to be correct. But on the massive political scale, considering that we now have nukes and the internet, you can't simply reflect on history to tell what might be coming. And then once you throw human nature, conflicting values and mass delusions into the mix... it's no wonder why so many people want to control everything.

I fly to Belgium this summer to earn euros. I've been there year ago and it was pretty comfy (rural Wallonia), nice people, well payed labour work, after two moths of work a I had enough money for comfy basementdweller, techuni student lifestyle for a whole year, so I didn't have to work and could focus on studies. Now with all this shit going on I'm afraid that with my "luck" something will happen and I won't like it, I can feel it in my guts.

I had an experience, and a series of dreams.
I was at my family's cabin in Alaska, when I was 18 years old. It was summer, so it was still quite light out late into the evening. The family had all gone to sleep, and I needed to relieve myself, and was feeling kinda cooped up, so decided to go for a short walk. I walked down a dirt road about half mile to the highway our cabin is set off from, and when it opened up onto the highway (really just a two-lane stretched of broken concrete) I went and stood in the middle of the road. There was no traffic, and I could hear all the sounds of nature around me. Birds, leaves rustling. The sun was just beginning to set on the horizon. The stretch of road is long, straight, and relatively flat aside from the frost heaves and you can see down the clear cut for probably a couple miles in either direction. I had this sudden, overwhelming realization, one of those moments of clarity where you come to understand what feels like a deeply profound, incontrovertible proof has been revealed to you. I realized that my future was uncertain; the road I was on could take me back to civilization or further into the wilderness until the concrete gave way to gravel, which gave way to dirt, which gave way to ruts. I recall thinking I could choose either path. One way, to the safe and the familiar. The other, to uncertainty, potential danger...but also something alluring, adventurous, a life worth living.

It was at that point the trees on the side of the road about maybe 100 yards down began to shake and a fucking brown bear came walking out onto the highway. It stood in the middle of the lane, lifted its head and smelled the air then turned and looked at me. I was fucking terrified. Being born and raised in Alaska, I know not to run--but I couldn't have, even if I wanted to. I was just frozen in place, barely even breathing. The bear looked at me for what felt like forever, then turned and started walking down the highway into the wilderness. I stood there and just watched it go until I could no longer make it out. I came to my senses and went back to the cabin, got into my sleeping bag and barely slept the rest of the night.

Now the weird thing is, over the last 20 years since that experience, during times of stress, unhappiness, uncertainty, I have dreams about that highway, and the bear. It's never aggressive, it just smells the air, turns and looks at me, then ambles off. When I met the girl I knew I wanted to marry, I had the dream. When she miscarried our child, I had the dream. When we began to fight with each other and drifted apart, I had the dream.
I'm in a good place. Life is stable, I have a decent job with modest income that allows me to do the things I want to, get out of the city and spend time alone, really allow my head to clear. But these last couple years, I keep having the dream. I've had it three times the last year alone, but there's nothing "wrong" with my life. The bear is different though, and its behavior is different. It no longer smells the air. It walks into the road and looks directly at me, just staring. It doesn't turn away. Then, I wake up.

thank you for sharing this story - it was surprisingly moving, and I've had a similar experience (in terms of experiencing a sense of profound revelation in the midst of isolation and disorientation)
it's truly life altering - and interesting how you described the mystery of an unknown, unset future... I sense that now more than ever before - where the world could change radically, violently, and without notice - and it wouldn't be shocking
these are deeply unnerving times, yet simultaneously I'm oddly comforted by its unpredictability. Anything could happen. Absolutely anything, and no particular outcome would seem more bizarre than the next. I think we're all dealing with sensory overload, and we've been made obese with information. Our minds cannot process the sheer volume of rage and chaos to which they're being exposed.
