>I predicted 52% for leave, feels /comfy/
Here's the problem: Leave will need to poll at least 55% in order to have even a 50/50 chance of winning the election.
The reason is because of a well-known phenomenon: When people are asked to vote for a big change, a significant percentage of them will chicken out at the very end and end up voting for the status quo -- despite claiming earlier that they were in favor of the change.
We see that all the time in the US. Whenever a state has a referendum on legalizing marijuana, it never passes unless the pro-marijuana voters are polling at least 55%.
If you look at the betting markets, Remain is still a heavy favorite. This is because the bettors know about the "chicken out" phenomenon, and they take it into account.

>We won't be allowed to leave.
From a lefty website, but here's why:
>We must begin by recognising that there are severe limits to the policies which global capital will tolerate. As many analysts have concluded, and Wolfgang Streek has most conclusively shown, in the globalised capitalist economy the real arbiters of policy in all highly-indebted nation-states (such as the UK) are the owners of large sums of investible capital. Global ‘investors’ (read: money lenders) in effect constitute parallel electorates to the registered voters; governments of all parties must constantly retain their ‘confidence’ by not adopting policies they think might lose them money. The alternative is revealed in exceptional times: if ‘investors’ decide that their interest requires it they don’t hesitate to render elected governments impotent, as in Greece in 2015 (or even have them overthrown, as threatened by an un-named British general if Corbyn becomes prime minister). But in normal times, depending on the size and nature of the national economy concerned, its trade relationships and strategic importance, etc, an elected national government normally has some leeway. Elections bestow some political legitimacy, which makes for political stability, and stability is of some concern to ‘investors’. But the leeway enjoyed by a newly-elected social democratic government is never very wide, and in the case of the UK it is especially narrow, for two reasons:
>a) the manufacturing sector is weak, giving rise to an extremely large balance of payments deficit on current account, which can be sustained only so long as it is offset by foreign owners of capital being willing to deposit sufficient funds in the UK;
>b) this is reinforced by the special role of the City of London, a global financial centre whose foreign exchange earnings are large enough to prevent the payments gap being so wide that the country would effectively be bankrupt.

Who here has family tradition of serving the army in some way?
-Both great Granddads each fought in WW1 and WW2. One fought through somewhere in African front. the other eventually got stationed in Italy but god injured during combat, got gangrene but didn't need amputation. Both survived.
-One Granddad joined and fought with the Gordon Highlanders before they amalgamated into 4 SCOTS.
-Mum joined the signalers as a reserve.
The list goes further and further. I feel like keeping it going in some way.

"It is a battle in which no quarter will be asked, and none will be given.
It is a battle in the course of which all other political lines and links will continue to be overrun and broken as it surges one way or the other.
It is a battle in which the bitterest foes of the past will stand together, and the closest of old alliances be destroyed.
I say these things in no spirit of bravado - they are cold and sober deductions from the fact that the fight is about the continued existence of the nation itself.
An issue to which, by definition, all other political issues and causes must be subordinate... in wartime, conservatives and socialists sank their past differences and postponed their future divergent ambitions to fight together for the survival of the political nation itself.
It is so again."

We have exactly the same thing in the US with the legalized marijuana referendums. The people who don't care much about it will say "stay the same" when asked. But the people who want marijuana legalized tend to feel more strongly about it, and so they're more likely to vote.
Even taking that into consideration, the historical data shows that the pro-marijuana voters need to poll at least 55% in order to have a 50/50 chance of winning the referendum. That data includes any and all psychological and behavioral factors (like the one you mentioned) -- because it's a measurement of the actual end results.
The betting markets know all this, which is why Remain is still the favorite, despite the recent polls. The betting markets have always been a better predictor than the polls, because the bettors can take historical patterns into consideration -- whereas the polls can't.
