When I was in third grade I found myself wishing I was a girl, quite often.
I even told my parents, which my father pretty much just completely ignored it.
Why did I think this? The pastures are always greener on the other side, plus I saw how society treasures little girls and how much teachers (rightfully so) dread little boys.
But it passed. It was a fucking phase of my childhood, and I've never had that thought since then.
Parents just need to ignore there kid for the first few months instead of instantly jumping in on the wagon, if they persist for months/a year, then something might be going on.
Getting attention from your parents on something like this and being encouraged in the slightest by your parents will make it impossible to ever turn back.

Actually that's a misconception. The drugs prescribed to pre-teens are testosterone blockers, which PREVENT changes to the body. When the kids come of age at 18, they are only then allowed to take actual sex hormones instead of blockers. The person undergoing the treatment can drop out at any time and then they will begin a normal (although belated) puberty.
