The only time I had to call the police for a mentally ill person was when I had to call about my grandpa. He's an alcoholic and had been stealthing booze for months. As a family we would have been fine if gpa was just a harmless alcoholic, but every time he got drunk he went into a rage that went on for hours and always ended up with him holding a gun to his head in the driveway screaming about how he was going to blow his brains out in the middle of the night when everyone in our neighborhood was trying to fucking sleep. I tried to gather all of his guns and lock 'em up but he had a million of them (America) and they were all hidden in the craziest places that only he knew about. The third time in 3 days he magically got drunk (seriously we were patrolling him 24/7 but my stupid grandma was probably just ready for him to die at this point and probably slipped him booze) and manifested a gun in the driveway, I finally called the police and they took him away. Then they swept the house and confiscated all the guns as "evidence". Now the psychopath is doped up on antipsychotics to the point that he barely functions, but at least he's not waving guns around in the fucking driveway anymore.

It makes you wonder though how the culture has changed regarding police. You have to believe back in the early-mid part of the 20th century you would essentially be hauled off by men in white pants.
