No one in this thread has gotten it right. It was Muslim invasion that took down the Roman Empire. Still believing the memes of your public school history books? It was muzzies that took down the west then and it's muzzies that will take down the west now

The Empire fell because they relied upon war and conquest for the GDP, and when they had conquered everybody they were left with an enormous, unsustainable welfare state. Bread and Circuses cost money.

>nobody mentions "barbarians"
Of course they played a role.
Just not the role we think.

They became relevant not as invaders, but as lenders of military favors... dogs of war and mercenaries.

In exchange, they were given land to settle.

Moreover, the greatness of the Empire fostered the birth of local powers, so that at some point, those who were in authority positions couldn't rely any more on Senate or something.
Moreover, bureaucracy was developed but not THAT developed.

This led to what is known as FEUDALISM, i.e. some kind of mafia trust in which your friendo is entrusted with land and given power to enforce shit in your name.

This, added to local armies and the injection of "barbarian" common law into Roman "civil" law created what later became known as Nation States.

The West? It didn't really fall, it just slowly became German. Constant succession crises and civil wars will do that over time; they just reported to their German overlords instead of Constantinople.

Constantinople did alright until Islam, then it was fucked. Venice and The Crusaders (Germans again) put the final nail in the coffin though.

It grudualy lost its purpose. The economic system of the Roman Empire was to conquer foreign countries, loot them and then rebuilt them as roman colonies, bringing money and new slaves to Rome continiusly.

But the Roman Empire started to overextend and new conquests were either not interesting enough (Germany) or fucking too far to really profit Rome (China, India). From that point, the only way for the Roman Empire to exist was to bank on the Pax Romana and pretty much keep the conquered people happy so they keep obeying. It worked for a long time, most notably because they all dreamed to become a Roman Citizen, which were at the time ONLY the people from Rome and very few exceptions.

But because of the outsider population becoming too huge compare to real romans, the emperor Caracala finally gave citizenship to every free man inside the Empire. It appeased them for a time but becoming a citizen became meaningless since no special status was attached to it anymore.

Centuries later, the "romanized" countries actually forget why they should obey to Rome and stopped, breaking Rome's wings, becoming unable to stop the barbarian invasions.

> TLDR: At first everyone wanted to become a roman citizen to get free shit, once they did they lost interest and Rome died.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner.

Eastern European tribes fleeing from the Huns. One dipshit Emperor who thought it'd be a good idea to split the Empire in half. Germanic foederati outnumbering actual Romans.

These are the things that made Rome fall. Even then, saying it fell as if it simply ceased to exist is outright false. The Byzantine Empire endured for a long fucking time afterward, and the legacy of Rome lived in on for over a thousand years through the Holy Roman Empire and such. You could even say the British Empire and United States of America are just continuations of the Roman Empire in a new form. The Republic Empire lives on, Tyrant or not.

increasing greed, hedonism, and liberalism

There are some very obvious parallels to modern life. Take the Roman empire contracting Gauls and Germanics to fight their battles for them. They were armed and paid by the Roman empire but they had their own agenda.

Then look at the Taliban, who are very much the same. They were armed and paid by the US empire to fight the Russians, but they've had their own agenda that they furthered through those agreements.

And even the sacking of Rome wasn't the end of it. It fell apart because of horrible social and governing decisions. It couldn't be managed under the philosophies of the time. I think the same is true of the west today. Abraham Lincoln is actually quoted as saying that the death of the US can only come from within. And that's likely to happen if we lose the concept of a cohesive nation and continue trying to appease a tiny minority of the rich and influential.
>>
>>69780353

Well actually they were given authority upon some parts of the roman's lands, which means that, for the Romans living there, the new laws were the barbarians laws. The first wave of invasion wasn't a military one. They were fleing a threat in the East and the roman emperor Angelus Merkulus thought it was a good idea to take them in the empire in order to increase the size of the population.

1. A weak central government filled with corruption and the split of WRE ERE

Roma did not hold enough sway over her provinces, taxes were not collected, and it created a lot of revolts and brutal but brief subjugations, not to mention the creation of the two separate states created a divide among civil and military assets that were vital at the time.

2. Mass Migration and the coming of the Huns

Despite what many say, the Huns themselves did not destroy the Western Roman Empire, they merely made millions of half starved barbarians flood into roman territory causing a shitload of problems with things like food, sanitation, and housing.

3. A mostly foreign/mercenary military

This is the probably the biggest contributing factor, Rome in the end couldn't enforce or protect itself because a massively disloyal/corrupt army

This.

Chirstianity made them weak, especially through the glorification of Christian values like humility. Just read what Evola had to say about it.

Their values and culture became corrupted, and the Barbarians marched right in. In fact, some of them were let in and were offered amnesty by the Empire.... in which they proceeded to sack Rome again and again.

You think that would have happened to Rome under Augustus or Julius Caesar? I don't think so.

Which one? The West fell because the West had always been poor as fuck and filled with barbarians. The East was still rich, it still had its Hellenic high-culture, as created by Alexander. Egypt was the breadbasket of the empire and Constantinople straddled the silk road. So anytime the East was threatened by barbarian invasion or the Huns, they just paid them off and sent them to bother the West instead.

The West started the incredibly shortsighted policy of rewarding barbarians with lands in exchange for military service. This meant that the already small tax revenue became even smaller since mini principalities were set up everywhere. And Germans were sent to fight other Germans, perhaps tribes they were friendly with. So they weren't all that reliable either, not to mention the inevitable drop in fighting efficiency. This wasn't the hardcore legions of Julius Caesar that could march with 60lbs of gear 12 hours a day. This was tribal people in roman garb.

The last emperors were just puppets of various Germanic cheiftains, who could kill them any time they got out of line, and often did.

>In April 390, Butheric, a Gothic magister militum in command of Illyricum (which included Thessalonica), had a popular charioteer arrested for a homosexual offence (he tried to rape a male cupbearer).[1] The populace demanded the charioteer's release and, as Butheric refused, a general revolt ensued which cost Butheric and several other Roman authorities their lives.

The roman empire consisted of two parts, or two seperate empires, of which the eastern one was the most important one.

>> TLDR: At first everyone wanted to become a roman citizen to get free shit, once they did they lost interest and Rome died.

And now, everybody wants to be a European citizen to get free shit, once they do Europe will die.

Europe eventually evolved and adapted to Christianity. One good thing Christian Europe did was keep the eastern invaders out.

However, Christianity is taking its toll on Europe once more by turning it into a multicultural nightmare. It also caused the so-called "Christian Dark Ages".

Isn't Moscow the official government of Rome that just moved from Constantinople?

True. I was only referring to the western Roman empire and its fall, particularly before the foundation of the Byzantine empire.

As I said just now, Christian Europe was still able to hold off the Eastern invaders.

Trick question... The Roman Empire didn't fall. It's now "The West".

You're absolutely correct about the law, except for the fact that killing a roman citizen was a lesser crime than killing a barbarian.

That being said, I agree that, to some extend, the Barbarians had a will to adapt (and not totally modify/remove the local roman population). On the other hand, the muslims coming from the middle east now are not trying to adapt but, instead, trying to modify the local population (remove everything that might look christian amongst other things).

Considering how a population who was willing to adapt changed the roman empire, one can only fear what a population who doesn't want to adapt will do to Europe.

Roman empire was irrelevant long before Islam even existed but whatever.
>>
>Classical roman empire

Everything that is happening today: decline of families, poor economy, barbarians finally catching up, low patriotism, overall loss of hope across the board.

>Byzantium

War with the Sassanian which ended in victory but left them weakened. Arab uprising in the south met little resistance until it hit the heartland. The empire was stabbed in the back by the Venetians and later taken over by the Turks who had Chinese gunpowder.

>HRE

Fractured and was never really significant, kind of just existed. Reformation weakened them and the Napoleonic era killed it.

Because since Augustus, the empire hold on one strong man, when they were no more strong men on the throne vicious circles of coup and civil wars began. It's called the 3rd century crisis.
And that explain short "rebirths" when an actually capable man took power, those rebirths usually ending at it's death

When Julius Caesar came to power, Rome was ruled by the Senate. Caesar NEVER called himself an Emperor. Augustus Caesar is when the Roman Empire was founded.

Genocide is a good thing. Societies that make wise use of genocide against dysfunctional groups can avoid the fate of Rome.

Feminism.
>>
>>69777732
it fell because of how decadent it was
and an oversexualized society is a big part of decadence
also useless over-extended military forces
display of wealth leading to a huge disparity between rich and poor
a search of lost greatness without any moral conviction
corrupted leaders aiming at personal goals instead of the greater good
extreme poverty and waste of resources at the same time

Any resemblance with today's society is but a mere coincidence

Partially because backstabbing and scheming. The coming times did the rest. Without that, who knows, maybe it would've lasted a few more centuries.
