Modern border walls are equipped with fairly cheap technology that detects reasonably deep tunnels and are also patrolled with cheap drones. This stops the vast majority of illegal immigrants because coming in by boat or plane isn't feasible on anything close to the same scale.
They also don't seem to understand that you don't have to go house to house rounding up illegal immigrants once the border is secure. Once you have a secure border, you can just keep deporting illegals at the current rate and the problem will mostly solve itself over a small period of time. The Obama administration has deported over 2.5 million illegals with hardly any effort.
