How has some hack comedian from Bongland been able to dismantle Trump's bullshit twice while the American media has completely failed to do over the past 8 months? What the fuck

All he's done is regurgitate shit already written by other news sources, throw in some old lame jokes and classic liberal ad hominem.

Has it tough? How many people actually watch his show? How many of his viewers are even americans in voting age?

We must remember that demographicas are very fickle things. You can interview 1000 people to try and predict the outcome of an election, but unless they are very different people the result will be wrong.

Just look at Bernie Sanders. The support for him on social media was almost as strong as the Support for Trump, but he reached nowhere near the numbers the internet predicted because most of those people were not voters/americans or both.

If you disregard unfunny jokes and calling calling Trump racist, xenophobic, small-fingered etc here's what you can take out of it:

He points out how the wall goes up in price each time Trump talks about it.

He says that even though Mexico has a 50bi+ trade deficit with the US it's ridiculous to think that Mexico will pay for it.

He showcases some sad stories of people who have been stripped off of their property by the government in favor of previous walls.

He claims that besides everything else, the wall will be ineffective anyway because criminals can still use ladders, ropes, dig tunnels or just throw drugs over it anyway.

There. Now you don't need to watch it.

Stumped?

And yet they're incredibly effective when used elsewhere.

They just magically lose any and all usefulness when they are out on the us/Mexico border. .
>>
>>68249771

He shows clips of Trump saying the wall will cost 4 billion at first, then cuts to him saying it will cost more and more until he says it will cost 12 billion.

Then Oliver quotes and unspecified construction specialist guy that says the wall + maintenance would cost at least twice that much.

Then you have some clips of disgruntled people living near the border saying the small fence that is there already doesn't work, which by his logic means the wall will also not work.

Doesn't mention how much illegals cost.

At the end proposes that instead of spending billions on the wall the government should buy every person in America a 75$ waffle maker.

Trump’s dubious claim that his border wall would cost $8 billion
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/02/11/trumps-dubious-claim-that-his-border-wall-would-cost-8-billion/

>Under the Secure Fence Act of 2006, the United States has already spent $2.4 billion for fencing across nearly one-third of the border (670 miles).

>The Government Accountability Office in 2009 said the cost to build a mile of the fence initially averaged between $2.8 million and $3.9 million. But that was in the easiest areas, near metropolitan centers; other areas in the desert or mountains could cost as much as $16 million a mile.

>So 1,000 miles of fences is at best $3 billion, and certainly much higher than that. A concrete wall would clearly be an order of magnitude. (The Corps of Engineers estimated that the 25-year life cycle cost of the fence would range from $16.4 million to $70 million per mile; the total cost of the fencing so far has been $7 billion, according to the Congressional Research Service.)

>We can also look at the Israel’s experience with building a separation barrier between Israeli-held areas and Palestinian-held areas. For the first 525 kilometers (326 miles), the cost was $2.6 billion. A simple calculation of expanding that to 1,000 miles yields a calculation of $7.99 billion, suspiciously similar to Trump’s estimate.

>But only one-tenth (33 miles) of the Israeli barrier is an eight-meter (25-foot) concrete wall. The other 90 percent is a two-meter (six-foot) high electronic fence. Trump says he wants a 1,000-mile long concrete wall.

>Assuming the cost of the fence was equivalent to the U.S. fence ($3 million a mile), that suggests about $1 billion of the cost was for the fence; the other $1.4 billion was for 33 miles of the wall (which was built in mostly metropolitan areas). Believe it or not, that translates to $42 billion for 1,000 miles of a 25-foot wall. (Recall that Trump wants a 35-to-40-foot wall.)

The episode summed up:
The wall will be expensive and difficult to build. We knew that already which is why Trump has made Mexico paying for it a meme but whatever, it fills time.

The wall would be largely ineffective against the most common form of illegal immegration - never leaving the country after your travel visa expires. I'm surprised the writers didn't bring up numbers from other countries with border barriers to demonstrate their effectiveness but I guess that would be too much work and/or go against their agenda.

Stretch those aguements out for 30 minutes and sprinkle in some jokes and forced memes.

All in all, the same weak and tired shit John Oliver's writer staff always vomits up when the jew overlords at Time Warner wants to direct public opinion.

Can we talk about how Alex Jones made a video about how Trump wants to bring down the Illuminati instead?

I think we all know that the wall is stupid, but to be honest if you think the wall is just a physical wall you are stupid. The wall was always just Trump's way to say we are not going to be the world's bitch anymore. It is also to show that America will be more nationalist under a Trump presidency. The actual wall is more of a symbol of American nationalism and an attempt to distance ourselves from the rest of the worlds globalist agenda.

b.) Congress (especially republicans in congress) can barely approve the funding needed to keep the government running as it is, what makes you think they'll fall all over themselves to approve funding on a massive public works project that is of dubious benefit at the begest of a man that many of them have come out as saying they don't like and won't work with.

c.) The republican party might not control both chambers of congress after the election, SCOTUS has absolutely nothing to do with this.

They probably had that land in their family for generations.

also it's not just about putting the wall on their property. It's about the fact that they'd basically need to bulldoze down all their property to make the roads to do the construction of the wall.

In essence the Government would just condemn the person's property, forcefully take it over, possibly fining the person or arresting them if they don't just leave, bulldoze down everything and then build their wall.

That family loses EVERYTHING, their home, the land they own, their livelyhood, and they get nothing for it.

Roads are already built that they could use for the construction of that. This is construction companies saying they'd need to build more roads to haul in the rebar and concrete necessary to build the wall.

Trump isn't thinking about this because like you faggots, Trump doesn't care about anyone else but Donald Trump and doesn't care about anything that doesn't personally affect him.

On the one hand, you have the following: 1. costs of building the wall are immense, even if you recover say, 25% from mexico, which you wont. 2. possible net rise in immigration, prompted by fear if being trapped in mexico (as we have seen in Europe) 3. possible de-stabilizing knock on effect to an already fucked mexican government (compounds no.2)
4. questionable benefits... wont help much with the drug/crime problem
OTOH
1. atm, US border w/ mexico (essentially a failed state since early 000's) almost impossible to police. regardless of bullshit, tens of thousands of people end up in america every year, a wall will do NOTHING but help. 2. possibility, albeit slight, that mexico will actually get a better foothold in the war on cartels b/c of this wall (less drug income... hopefully) 3. long-term decrease in peeps making the exceptionally dangerous (MUCH more dangerous than say, over the med into europe) journey to illegally immigrate to america, potential for these countries to improve their situation goes up in the absence of brain drain.
what have i missed? does anyone really believe the wall will help?
>>

Building a road doesn't use that much space, generally it's the width of the road then another metre either side. You could even build the road then work from the centre outwards, putting the wall where the road was or, at most, you'd build the wall next to the road and run access between the borders of two properties.

What kind of rancher owns a property so tiny that a wall and a road will render all their land unusable?
>>
>>68250963
>He says that even though Mexico has a 50bi+ trade deficit with the US it's ridiculous to think that Mexico will pay for it.
>Begin shipping millions of illegals across the border at will.
>Mexico fires up a storm
>Trump laughing .jpg
>Mexico caves and pays for the wall in full.

He claims that besides everything else, the wall will be ineffective anyway because criminals can still use ladders, ropes, dig tunnels or just throw drugs over it anyway.

I highly doubt the wall Donald intends to build will be so shitty that a fucking ladder is going to be easily used against it. I also assume that the wall is going to be garrisoned with actual border patrol guards, who no longer have to live hundreds of miles away from their area of operations and respond to intrusions far faster and more effectively.
>>
>>68265220

it depends on the lay of the land and where the engineers have designed that the road and wall need to be built. you can't just cut a staight line along the boarder and say okay we're dropping the wall in here. This isn't sim city.
>>
>>68265721

also did you watch the video? When they were building A FENCE along the border they condemned a rancher's lands and took the entire property from them, so they could build the fucking fence. That's just how eminent domain works. They confiscate the entire property and you don't see a wooden nickle for it.
>>

>They confiscate the entire property and you don't see a wooden nickle for it.

That's terrible, I was under the impression that money was exchanged for the land and that the value could be disputed if it were too low. Please do provide some sources so I can spread the message. Everything I've turned up indicates people are paid.
>>
>>68246432

that pick says immigrants so they mean legal ones which is probably true because they don;t want to be deported. Remember the left tries to trick you with language because they are fucking manipulating assholes
>>
>>68266265

my mistake, the use of the word "condemned" doesn't indicate that the people are paid but in the legal text of the how eminent domain works, they use the term condemnation even though they ARE compensating the landowners for it.

The way I thought it was they "condemned" the property declaring it unfit for habitation and then just took ownership without compensation.

Like if your house is condemned for asbestos or something you're just not allowed to live there.

Farming, fishing, mining, forestry, etc are hardly small businesses and do have lobbies in DC.

Illegals drive down the price of lowskilled labor which is good for business and that is the reason they are allowed.

If illegals were bad for business you would have an 80 foot wall built by next Tuesday.

Oliver's bit about costs being higher than expected do not phase me.

Illegal Immigration according to federal sources costs the US over $100 billion dollars a YEAR. If the wall can curb even 5% of that cost, it'll have paid for itself in half a decade by their worst estimates.

However, one bit he brought up did make me ask /pol/: would the wall be that effective in keeping illegals out?

>1/2 of all illegals come through the access points with false visas, or come by plane/boat into cities not on the border and stay there

The wall would not prevent these. So is the wall going to be that effective? Will it even curb the aforementioned 5% a year in costs for illegal immigration?
>>
He mad a lot of a points but none of them made any logical sense.

>Trump is stupid. 40% of illegal immigrants come by plane, a wall would only stop 60%
okay so we can't do anything unless we stop 100%?
>Mexico says they won't pay for it. So his plan won't work
Ever been with a friend when they get a parking ticket? sometimes they say "i'm not paying for this fucking ticket". Does the city just say "okay sorry about that we'll leave you alone ".

"The wall would be largely ineffective against the most common form of illegal immegration - never leaving the country after your travel visa expires."

It's not. The 50% is an upper-limit estimate. It's probably a good deal lower than that. It also doesn't include the number of people who've come through illegal means and have been deported, were caught at the border, went back voluntarily etc. etc.

What you have to consider is the number of people who've come into this country ACROSS TIME, not those currently here now.
>>

No. You're referring to both parties not being able to agree and so a budget isn't passed for a while, sometimes shutting some parts of the government down.

>1/2 of all illegals come through the access points with false visas, or come by plane/boat into cities not on the border and stay there
He said that nearly half come legally with visas. Now think about it for a second. Which kind of illegal immigrant do you think it's most likely to be a criminal: the one that was accepted already once (albeit temporarily) or the one that didn't even try the legal process and paid a criminal smuggler? The border hoppers are most probably criminals with records, the rest are just your normal wage-dumpers. Besides 50% it's still a ton of people.
>>

>No. You're referring to both parties not being able to agree and so a budget isn't passed for a while, sometimes shutting some parts of the government down.

Most of the recent ones have been by republican controlled congresses. Dems did it a few times during Reagan's presidency

Yeah, it's sad that people don't understand the Trump movement. People say that every election is the most important of all time but this one truly is. It is not even about Trump anymore. It is about the people versus the people who own the world. If we win, it is the people taking back their voice and hopefully taking back their freedom from the Soros and Kochs of the world who have enslaved us. It brings a tear to my eyes to be honest.
>>
>>68268469
This too. It's irksome how so many Americans will fawn over some buck tooth moron simply because he has a goofy sounding British accent. (Sarcuck of Mossad.)

I for the life of me can never understand why the fuck Americans love Brit accents so much. Americans seem to think of the Brit accent as higher-class & intelligent. Which is amusing considering that the American accent is what the British accent used to sound like before the USA was created.

I'm not a White American, but I much prefer good ol' American English. They don't sound like nasally faggots like Brits often do. The American accent sounds manly. Although that's possibly the reason why the American accent is labeled as ignorant & trashy. The modern Western world hates anything that could be labeled as manly.

No, you dumb fuck. When the budget doesn't get passed, it's both parties not coming to an agreement. Both parties are responsible, not just one. Let me give you an example you can understand of how the media spins it so the Republicans are made out to be the sole party shutting down the government.

Do people understand what a wall is?
A wall is not a 10 foot high block of concrete that is 1 ft deep, it is a series of about 30-40 bricks deep all sealed in mortar and is about 10 m high.
You ain't throwing anything over. The wall's shadow will consume your entire deserts.

It's kinda sad. I remember all that chaos about someone affiliated with someone affiliated with Soros (or something like that) trying to give $10K to anyone who destroyed a pinata on Trump's TV appearance. It's so sad that people buy into all the "Donald Trump is literally worse than Hitler" rhetoric that the media spews because Soros tells them to. Colleges are going batshit over political correctness. There was a speech I saw of the leader of the American Nazi Party at UCLA in 1969, and there's no way that'd happen today. Milo and Christina Hoff Summers were protested, and they have much less publicly intolerated opinions.
Anyway, yeah, I agree. It's just sad how people don't get WHY this is important. Luckily, many do (hence many on the Republican side voting for Trump).
