What are the chances that this escalates into a war? I can't imagine it happening, but if it does, it will be WWI all over again.

I know they are his terrorist brethren but I doubt he'll bother.
I would never expect WW3 to happen over support of ISIS by the western world.
It seems ISIS is a crucial investment to the USA and it's pawns and all opposition to it is a farce.

Just impose sanctions for a week, watch as the US markets collapse, and have the US sue for peace.

It's not going to happen now, not over just an SU-24 getting shot down.
Mostly likely Russia will try some economic fuckery against Turkey with tariffs or something, but they don't have a strong enough reason for waging war against NATO at the moment - as much as we think China likes Russia, they like being able to trade with the US a lot more.
