He definitely will. I think he's trying to make it so that by the time the generals come around, the Republicans will have a united front from Day 1.
The Dems did this in both 2008 and 2012 and it paid off. They're whole primary process is actually geared towards that goal. It's phase of intense campaigning and ads is shorter, and thanks to a more centralized party organization, they're able to narrow it down to only two real candidates vs. the inevitable circus of the GOP primary.
They fucked up this time though, because while Bernie is basically a plant, I don't think the dems forecasted that he'd essentially split the party in two AND steal Hillary's primary demographic.
