Eastern Washington or Oregon, Montana, North Carolina, Rural Pennsylvania. If you're looking for cooler weather than Texas, Arizona or Louisiana anyway.
Otherwise my favorite states and the ones I think have the most interesting American cultures are Texas, Florida, North Carolina and Ohio. Florida, as long as you stay away from Miami or the college towns it can be a great place to live. Ohio is the birthplace of nearly every great American invention. North Carolina is the based Carolina, and Texas is Texas.
