I have a 1960 airstream safari. Whenever I take it to a campground it seems like everyone wants to come by and see it. Everyone asks if they can see inside. One of our favorite campgrounds is near a great fishing river. Have came back to camper to find people at our campsite looking at my airstream, trying to peak through windows and shit.

+1. Those and bags from lures. And you know it's the exact same people who are throwing back invaisive species and keeping every bass that's even half the legal length instead of catch & release at a small lake that obviously can't support all these people eating from it.

It mostly just makes me mad because I fish at lots of lakes in populated areas and when a few people go fishing there and make a mess, that's when people start getting pissed off at every fisherman. Ruins it for everybody.

And go fish saltwater or at least the Everglades if you want to eat every game fish you catch. Leave my little bass hotspot with some fish in there.

If you're that lazy to not pack out some plastic and paper (that's the stuff that burns), you could also remove packaging / prep your meals before leaving the house.

>Yea I don't mind that as long as they don't hang around if I make it clear they're invading my personal space.
Well if I have to pitch my tent near someone elses, I would say hi and start a little chat, but I'm not staying for dinner nor asking you if you are saved or want a hug.

Now that you bring it up, how do you make clear that someone is invading your personal space, you go and say: hey you are invading my personal space? I've never seen something like that.

Hedonists who choose to kill animals, and they justify it through pure pleasure or terrorism à la ''if I do not eat meat I will die, I will Die !!!!''.
Those people are the lowest of the low.
>>
>>768219
Well I'm British so its mostly implied. Short answers, saying things that direct them away like ''so which way are you headed now?'', basically not encouraging more conversation or them to join me.

If all else fails, and it has only happened once, I say like ''well nice speaking to you, but I was enjoying the peace and quiet'' and just end the convo so they get the hint.

As for pitching tents close, if wild camping that's completely unacceptable. Find your own damn spot. If you're on a camp ground, you've let yourself in for it by going to a camp ground.
>>
>>768227
But if you ask something like ''so which way are you headed now?'' it's like you are asking me to tell you K just wait a second and bring over my maps and my journal to explain to you my plans, and show pics of my doggo and share some cool stories about fishing.

The same if you say ''well nice speaking to you, but I was enjoying the peace and quiet'', it's like you are literally asking me to express my feelings about peace and the ways to obtain it, and how silence is such a rare commodity these days with cellphones everywhere.

Mayve you should try another strategy? Not that you should, it's just a friendly suggestion

people who say what I carry is illegal or not needed while I am out for a hike. I carry fully legal things btw. Carried a can of bear spray and some tourist is like If I dont see any bears there isn't any there. She was like its not needed and its illegal perfectly legal btw. Also my knife lol
>>
>>768516
What's the legality of using the bear spray on annoying tourists and claiming it was an accident?
>>
>>768516
But were you in actual bear country? If I see you in the middle of a city park carrying a knife and bear spray I'm calling the cops so they get you back to the mental institution you escaped from.
>>
>>768521
>>768518
Bear spray is illegal to use on another person but where I was is true bear country/cougar country. The trail that I was hiking on is fairly popular at the start but about 5km in there is noone. Total hike is about 75k there and 75km back. It is true bear country as I (walking alone traintracks to get there) have walked into bears many of times as the river is close by. Either way It is true bear country and my knife is perfectly legal. Bk7 and I normally have a small neck knife everywhere I go (esee 3)
>>
>>768521
>>768518
I carry my hiking backpack/sleeping bag/tent all the time when I go out because sometimes I dont make it out in time so I just spend the night. I got permission and am allowed thanks to close relations with the ranger that watches the place.
Story of the interaction with the tourist
>Walking alone train tracks about 4:30am or so a hour 1/4 away from my house there for 6ish
>set up my small gel stove cook up some tasty oats and some hot jam together (tasty AS FUCK)
>have my bear spray on my side in a holster for it
> Have my knife on my side
>She passes by
> I pack up and start walking (about 15 minutes later
> Shes taking a break and I pass her shes on a log
> I greet her with a friendly hello lovely day same old nice people thing
> She asks is that bear mace not spray?
> I say no its bear spray
> she says oh isn't that a bit much out here
> I say I am out in bear country I should be carrying it better safe then sorry
> She says this isn't bear country
> I reply Ive seen bears here many of times many dens and alot of cougars.
> More or less she says oh thats not needed its illegal blah blah blah shit like that
> I say its legal as I legally bought it. Its in my name I got the tags and bar code for and the receipt for it. (ALWAYS)
> more or less I carry on hiking.
>>
Easiest way to put it she is saying oh this isn't bear country and so on meanwhile not 2 years ago a man was mauled and killed by a bear not 25km into the trail. She was from Ontario Canada, I am from BC.
>>
>>768521
>>768518
I carry my things within reason, if I am going out a walk in the woods near by my house I just carry my knife because I am always looking for plants and mushrooms. (neck knife) I dont carry my spray all the time only if I am going out for the night OR its out in bear country. The woods I go to is my neighbors and its 15 acres so I dont really need to worry about bears to much even thou he has seen them on his property.

Either way I even walked into the police station and asked them is this legal is that illegal? Can I do this Can I not do this etc etc etc. I do everything within my legal rights and so on. Cops are nice if you are nice to them lol. I normally just undo my belt when they come to me and I give it to them. No issues so far. I don't fuck the cops with this am I being detained crap. If they question me I am honest and I follow their instructions to the word.

I had the very deep joy of once seeing a kid with a hand line catch the biggest fucking trout I've ever seen in over thirty years of fishing, what made it all the better was that he did it in front of a bunch of snobby gear whores who all had super expensive fly rods and reels that caught them nothing but minnows!!

Talk about sweet karma
>>
>>768552
Ahah I love when shit like that happens, I've seen one kid who was pulling up salmon left right and center and the guys down stream with their 300 dollar rods and grand gear didn't catch 1. Totally depends, but sometimes even if they're functionally similar someone might feel that a higher-end piece of gear is worth it for aesthetic or "feel" reasons. Nothing wrong with pest control hunting

I shoot every coyote I see

They kill people's pets and livestock and outcompete foxes for prey which sucks because I enjoy fox hunting with the club in my area but coyotes are destroying the foxes' niche so much so that the hound breeder has starter breeding his dogs larger and stronger to be able to go after coyotes

A buddy of mine pest control hunts wild hogs in his area because they'll destroy entire fields of crops and even take down small sheds and anything where feed is stored
>>
>>767508

As a hunter, other hunters/wannabes that speak poorly about wildlife, including so called pest species, annoy me. I don't understand how you can talk shit about animals that define your diet and free time through their life and death.

>herf derf grouse are so stupid!!1! Shot 5 from muh truck!
They're one of the toughest game birds to hunt if you're not using a .22. They freeze and then flush because it works great against lynx, foxes and other predators. It makes taking them on the wing very difficult because you might only have a second before they're into thick timber.
>moose are assholes way worse than bears fuck moose
Close calls with bull moose have made my life better. I've never had a real problem. That urge to get closer when you spot one? Do not follow it, and all will be well. Enjoy seeing the king of the forest.
>wolves/coyotes terrible kill em all
I'm down with predator hunting, but the number of times I let coyotes pass when I'm out for deer etc... I enjoy seeing them. Wild animals in wild places, they enrich the woods via their presence.

You have to release the small and the off season ones anyway by law. So i guess releasing them doesnt harm them that much if you handle them carefully.
But i agree that fishing without the intention of harvesting fish is kind of cruel.

Couple of years back in Yosemite, me and a buddy
Snowcreek Falls Trail, then over to North Dome, El Cap and back down to the valley
Nice and slow enjoying the peace a quite, having a good time
Tioga Road is usually closed from fall to Memorial Day, easy to get to this trail from the road, hard from the valley, always go when the road is shut
Finished eating, campfire down to a glow, ready for a nice long, cold early winter night
Hear dirt bike engines, shit, here come 4 bikes, doubled up, they are below us at a group site, no permits, drinking, pot, yelling, shooting, had a spray can, spraying up so rocks, complete assholes, built a bonfire, not a campfire, a huge fire, all got nude dancing around, catch a tree on fire, by itself so no worries, they move down the trail toward North Dome, left all their shit
Tell buddy to pack our shit quick, just fold and stuff it into the packs
I go to their camp, pack their two tents, bags, food, took the guns, left 1 blanket and 1 water bottle, tip over the bikes, drain the tanks, flatten the tires and took the plugs
Took 15 minutes, we moved off toward Upper Yosemite Falls, hike a few hours, had really good headlamps and I know the trail, left their shit at the top of the upper falls trail made our way to El Capitan, met up with some people waiting for some climbers and bedded down, was around 2330 when we made camp, 0200 start getting a bit of snow and it got cold quick, buddy fels bad so he calls down to the main ranger station and Stella them a bunch of drugged out nude drunks with dirt bikes are at North Dome
In the morning saw a helicopter doing sweeps near North Dome
Did I ever regret my actions, nope, not once
They lived, got arrested, saw a small article in the Merced Sun-Star, paid a fine and got probation, they claimed aliens stole their shit
Not quite, but my buddies parents did come to the US on vacation and decided to stay, so in a way they were right

They have expanded their range drastically in the USA in the last 100 years, so they are naturalized, not native, in the eastern and western US, see pic.

To me they're on the same tier as raccoons: living off trash and other pests around people. I don't hate them, but will shoot one if I get a chance.

>just reducing it to "eating meat"

Are you kidding ? That kid is eating deep fried pulverisated flesh from chickens that never had the chance to see the sun or see any other wildlife but human beings. And you'd want to put that on the same level as a cat eating a mouse it found ?

Now I'm sorry man but that aint just "eating meat". The whole food industry is a joke and the people defending it are even more laughable. Even worst are those completly unaware of where the food is coming from and what treatment it undergoes.

No other living being is doing what we are doing with other animals just to fill our stomaches. Your picture is totally misunderstanding the problem.

>game fishing in saltwater
They tire the hell out of the fish. I'm actually a salt person and the 82-85% is direct from this years guide and the mortality research they've been conducting for years.
The game fish I think you mean is more like marlin, sailish, tuna, etc. With Striped Bass people are pretty good about C&R safely (anything under 28" has to be released and can only keep 1 fish over 28" per day). Personally I crimp my barbs down to reduce mortality on releases.

>not saying hello

Who cares? People go out for various mental reasons. If YOU say hello and they don't say anything back, then that may be a bit rude, but you shouldn't lose sleep over it- you sound really pretentious.

Don't hike in Switzerland. You would go crazy with the lack of hellos. Conversely, for some reason, if you hike the Mythen you'd wish people would shut the fuck up and let you breathe in peace.
>>
>>770850
and they do this on a massive scale to the point where it affects the environment?

the comparisons being made here are hilarious
>>
>>770864
Not him but you have no idea the amount of parasitic wasps there are, nor the vital importance they and the effect they have on their various target species have to the various ecologies they live in, do you?
Just parasitic wasps alone outnumber humans many, many times over.
This is like eighth grade knowledge, read something that isn't 4chan once in a while.
>>
>>770864
>>770936
Also lemme add I disagree with how fowl and especially pigs are kept, and don't eat them for this reason, but beef and fish and arthropods are fine by me.
Also most parasitic wasps don't go after spiders; the general target is some larval butterfly or moth but some will even parasitize other wasps. Also being eaten alive isn't the worst thing, some will keep the host alive and partially paralyzed in order to defend the wasps while they pupate. Some will even survive the ordeal and recover. And wasps aren't the worst parasite out there.

>>770940

As long as they take their rubbish and don't leave nature disturbed, they've done nothing wrong. Nothing wrong with getting out in nature for a few beers and a song a long. nothing that I can really think of, maybe littering of plastic shit, but that's possibly it.

but im good-guy-outist. anytime I'm around a water way and need to chop shit out of my way so I can fish in it, I always bundle that shit up, and put it off to the side, I would carry it out but doing so on a motorcycle sucks. pic related. better then having the branches and shit thrown everywhere and looked like a retarded beaver had come through the area.

Not him, but leaving those bundles may encourage other people to fish in the same spot over and over, thus causing more erosion in that spot. You are basically leaving a signal.

I've got a few things that I see reoccurring while hiking, that grind my gears:
>1) Playing music on a speaker system

People go out, at least in my opinion, to emmerse their senses in nature- to reconnect and re-ground themselves. This new fad of playing shitty techno music over bluetooth speakers for all to hear, is not only inappropriate, but breaks up the piece of mind of those who are seeking quiet time while in nature.

>2) Being asked "how far is it to the end/feature?"
I am not your guide. I don't know how fast you hike or what your plans are. Frankly, part of the adventure is not knowing, so I refuse to answer directly when asked by casuals 'how far is it?'

>3) Not yielding to ascending people or groups
People descending must always yield to ascending hikers; period.

There are a couple of factors that would make this not always so, imo.
Some trails can be harder to go down than up, particularly eroded trails.
If the people coming down have heavy packs and the people going up are dayhikers with no packs, I'd say yield to the pack group.

My parents recently moved us to a really shitty part of MD, so there's litter everywhere. That shit triggers me so hard, especially coming from a place where the police didn't play around when fining people for litter.

And used to be kept in check by wolves.

Coyotes have really fucked shit up; wolves used to massacre coyotes (nobody's really sure why) and leave smaller animals relatively unmolested but coyotes eat small game while eschewing larger prey. When they reintroduced wolves to Yellowstone the coyote population dropped by 98% and the population of small mammals boomed.
