Varies from fire to fide. Some times I wanna do bow drill....some times ferro rod and cotton balls or other fuel force...some times just a lighter and one of those mini fire starting logs.

That depends what do I have on me when I go to start the fire?
>>

Let's say you need something that'll work even if wet.
>>
There a two potential worst case scenarios.

Its wet but you have kept some dry tinder with you

or

Its wet and you have to find dry wood

Either way your are going to need to get out there and find some of the least wet wood. Split that and take the wood from the inside that is the dryest.

You can use any kind of fire lighting method. As long as you have something that'l burn for a good while so that the tinder can be set ablaze. You can even start a fire with wet sticks buts its so dam hard, youll be at it for a good hour or so.

Thats why its crucial to be strong enough to keep going for so long. Practice Practice

Easy to start and water proof. Will burn if wet
Burns for 20 minutes which is long enough to start a fire.

Usually a match. Sometimes I'll use a bic lighter, but I burn my thumb with it pretty often. I like how I can place the match into the middle of the fire rather than just lighting the edge or lighting my tinder before putting it in. Kitchen matches work better than most that you'll buy in an outdoor store.
>>
>>642721
I just light a stick with my bic and use that to get into the middle of the fire, saves my matches and my fingers that way.

If I'm ever in trouble and need to get a fire going quickly I'll just splash some cooker fuel on it. You still need a properly made fire though, ethanol doesn't burn very hot. It just guarantees ignition first try and gives enough warmth to dry out your tinder and kindling a bit.

>put paper or wood snippets inside the structure
>light it
always works

We save all of our dryer lint and toilet paper rolls we fill the toilet paper rolls with the lint and put them in the fire pit stack the kindling then the tinder.

one time I used 500ml of white gas to start a small campfire on a day with no wind, I lit it with a 10 foot pole and it exploded and made a huge pillar of fire for several minutes. I scared the shit out of everybody haha

uh, actually a three stone cooking fire has been the most used method of cooking since civilization started.

this shits no joke, I don't know how cavemen had beards long enough to tickle their nipples. just the other day I cooked like half my face on like a gallon sized camp fire because a random burst of wind thought it be cool to kick up and push the fire towards me as I was throwing more wood chunks in. I'm gonna assume the long beards didn't know how to start camp fires without using their thu'um.

These fire starters are just sawdust soaked in wax then formed into a brick. They work great but you can make the same thing for 1 percent of the cost of the retail product.
>>
>>645111

I heat my house with a woodstove, I take the paper egg cartons and fill with pine saw dust, drip about a teaspoon of wax on it and and done.Tear one off and light the edge, cheap firestarters

lighter/matches and whatever very small pieces of wood I find around/break from bigger pieces of wood. What the fuck is wrong with you, you claim to be outdoors men but you use damn fire starters?!

it's what i was thinking.
also they say ground cooked coffee powder has a higher energy ratio than wood so i'm gonna try that too.
