Hmm another anon, good thing I didn't go out and try my new tires in the rain.
Thinking about new tires for my DR650, it currently has an old Kenda on the rear and a new Kenda that I put on the front that was cheap to replace the rotten one. Now I want to replace both with a set of 80/20% dual sport tires like the Shinko 705's or something a little more highway/twisty friendly. Not enough money for new rims to go Sumo yet.

If I may be honest anon, I think you'll be so far into the rookie level of "woah what is all this" that most of the things will be lost on you. It'll be like starting out on a game playing on the very hard setting.
If you're set on getting a sportsbike, how about getting one and having some time to get comfortable with it (say a month) and then having the track lesson? I think you'll be able to take more things from the track that way. Sport bikes somewhat different (unwieldy for me, mostly) but they're not that much of a dangerous thing unless you go flat out retard.

So my Dad said he wanted me to fly down to Baton Rouge with him and buy a Ural with a sidecar. So it would be kind of like Easy Rider in reverse since we'd be going up to the East Coast instead.
He knows the bikes are made by drunk Russians but he loves Russia, has a Russian wife, wants a Yak-9 as a dream basically... So he doesn't care about reliability. But is there any reason to be driving 1000 miles for a bike? Perhaps he just wants to have an Easy Rider experience.

The factory is perfectly presentable, it has like a 100 old workers who make these bikes (in Soviet times there were 10000), it's like a 100% vanity vehicle/collector item.
It's literally WW2 tech, very vintage, great offroad (you can pass some torque to the sidecart wheel to get you out if you're stuck), can carry lots of weight, can be repaired by a beginner due to simplistic design. Don't know anything about reliability. You can also try finding an authentic Soviet one in good condition for I guess for like a 1000$.

Despite them being a tiny company compared to the big 4 japs they have made it to the top of MX, SX, Rally, and are even making an entrance into road racing. My rear feels pretty squirmy on the road, so I wonder if a k760 on the back would also be a little better on the road.
