Curious you post that. I did sprint interval training today, stretched, tried to puke intentionally just to get the feeling over with (failed), drove home, showered, ate some munchies, went back to work on the DR, got off work at midnight, then gently brapped around the Iowa countryside southeast of Des Moines. Crossed two foxes, a possum, and then a doe tried to stunt with me on the highway. I was wired on for about 30 seconds after the encounter, then it was ops-normal all the way home.

>>14900125
I need to start looking up comfy seats for my V-Stronk. Kind of want one for the DR also, but it's not really a tourer. What I am going to buy tonight, though, is a new Vapor because I'm a bit tired of mine which won't draw power from the battery and actually light like it's supposed to.

All the electrics are working. Put the rear brake switch back together and dialed it in today. Brake lights come on perfectly now (rear brake was getting stuck before and front did nothing).

Front brakes have pressure and seem to be working, although I'm yet to actually ride it and test. Rear brake isn't working yet. It's dragging or stuck on. Need to read through that part of the manual and figure out an approach. I figure taking the plunger apart and seeing if it stops dragging would be a good start though.

Mounting the indicators tomorrow.

Wee strom/sv650
>>
>>14900203
I third the previous two posters. I have one of each.
>99 DR650
Big dirt bike that can sustain 80MPH. Soft suspension with plenty of travel. 36 or so HP. Tough as hell, simple, cheap, fun, but slowish.

>06 V-Strom 1000
ADVBike, kind of a tall tourer that is built to handle dirt. "Nicer," pretty comfortable ergos (I need a better seat though), good size tank for reasonable range, big V-twin has torks but will spin 9000 RPM and sound nice doing so, mine has hard cases, has standard wheels instead of spokes but can be converted to whatever if you have the cash, etc.

Try a new-generation V-Strom 650, a Kawasaki Versys, Triumph Tiger 800 (or 1050 if you gotta go fucking fast; they sound like sex, too), and the Honda [whatever letters]500 and 700. I like my literstrom but the 650s are really damn good, too, better on fuel, and a little lighter.
>>
>>14900208
The V-Strom handles dirt a bit worse than the KLR but is much better on the road.

Dual-sports are halfway between a dirt bike and a street bike, while adventure bikes are more of an 85/15 mix.

>>14900348
If the car is your "project car", get a second car first, then a bike. If it's just a regular and reliable commuter, a bike is reasonable.
>>
>>14900348
Depends on what you want from your second vehicle.

If you already have a car I'd suggest a bike, but whether one suits your needs is up to you

Sportbikes with four cylinders don't make good first bikes, so keep that in mind. Ninja 250/300/500/650's or an SV650 are much better in that respect, and would most likely still be way faster than anything else you've experienced.

Riding is a different experience. It's more pure, more involving. Someone posted here once "four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul" and I think that's a good way of putting it.

Folders mainly speak for themselves. Audio folder is completed audio of finished projects. I run it out to some outboard gear to compress and correct the audio levels then import it back into Vegas.

Nothing pisses me off more than really quiet YouTube videos with levels that constantly change.

As far as gear is concerned you need to think about how much money you're willing to spend because it will dictate what gear you get.

Imo full body coverage is paramount, with a good helmet and good boots at the top of the list.

Textile is a 'one use only' type deal as it shreds upon impact with the road but it is cheaper than leather so you need to work out whether it's worth it for you.

You don't need a $2.5k Dainese suit to go to the shops but not wearing enough gear never ends well. You might think you'll be fine, and you probably will be...right up until you're not and you're regretting not pulling on a jacket or slipping on some boots.

Carrying things on a motorcycle is basically restricted to what you can carry on your back or what you can strap onto the bike, whether it's a bag rack or panniers or a tank bag.

Take the MSF course (or equivalent) and see if it's for you. It might be, t might not be, who knows, but it's cheaper than buying gear, getting a bike and then realising you don't like it for whatever reason.

The courses have helmets, and that's all. Generally, unless you're doing some stupid shit you won't need more than that at the course. The practice fields aren't normally bigger than the size of a football field, and you won't really be going more than 20 for almost the whole time.
>>
>>14900462
They would probably provide a helmet and possibly gloves, though I recommend asking before you book in.

In my personal experience textile gear is fairly durable. I've come off twice (admittedly on gravel and at low speed) and my jacket shows no marks, rips or tears of any sort.

>I think the dedicated drive idea is good.
My PC is eight years old so the only way to keep it running smoothly is dedicates drives and overclocking. OS runs on an SSD, Sony Vegas/DAW runs on an SSD, programs run off their own HDD, footage is on its own HDD, etc.

Also makes organisation really simple.

>I am completely green in audio
>If you have any tips which do not require hardware then I'd love to hear them.
I'm not really sure how you'd do it without outboard gear. I assume you could setup compression and "reamp" it internally but you'd kind of need to know what you're doing already.

I'd probably just render the finished audio as an mp3, compress it slightly, and make sure the levels are correct.

I route my signal out to this and record it back in. Realtime compression doesn't give that swirling feeling you get if you compress the whole track at once..

Something like $250 or so for over 21, around $180 if you're under 21.
Earbuds aren't illegal if it's only in one ear. Bad idea regardless. If you REALLY want music while riding, do what I do. Get some helmet speakers, and ear plugs. Won't be car stereo good, but it's something.

I use earbuds but I wouldn't recommend it, it can be distracting at times (especially if your favourite song comes on and you start jamming with it) and also uncomfortable if your earbuds don't quite fit properly in you helmet and/or develop pressure points due to their design.

Earplugs and some sort of in-helmet speaker system would be better imo. The earplugs block out most of the wind noise but still let through a bit of noise so you can hear what's going on around you/music etc.
>>
>>14900509
Additionally earbuds add even more noise while blocking out barely any, which will cause hearing damage sooner or later.

Blocking out the wind noise with music is a false economy as you're still blasting loud music in your ears.

I own an AxeFX anyway and the rack is always connected to the PC. It's faster to bus it out to that than setup a VST so I may as well use it. The noise floor is super low and the ISP has downward expansion that takes a bit of the noise out too.

I'm getting an Avalon 737 soonish and I'll probably use that instead once I have it.

You can work it out if you know the rolling radius of the tyre and the gear ratio
>>

Math. I saw an article where some guys used magnets placed on the rotor and an EM sensor to feed the speedo on their sv650 after replacing the stock forks with gsxr pieces. If you can place a magnet at a know distance and have some sensor pick it up you can use that to replace a missing speedo.

I know you said tune tho. My old Garmin GPS gives a speed readout that is reasonably accurate. Hell even snapchat has that mph overlay with precision to the tenth. I'm sure there's a phone app out there. Just compare the recorded speed with displayed speed at the same instant.

I fucking hate the EU lads.

The privilege of paying for my (extortionately priced) licence three fucking times. The max performance restriction for TWENTY TWO YEAR OLD ADULTS set to what the US would consider bare minimum. They tried to make hi-vis jackets mandatory, because that would obviously make all the difference to the moron with his tyre on the white line staring at a phone in his lap.

The average age of a European rider is now nearly FIFTY years old.

They hamstrung development for over a decade with totally arbitrary panic-caps on performance.

They do all this shit in the name of safety. The net result is everyone under the age of twenty four, SEVENTEEN year olds, opting to stay on light, unstable, skinny tyred, underpowered, underbraked shitmachine fender-fodder 125s after ONE DAY of compulsory training. For seven years. SAFETY. The knee-jerk Hayabusa reaction ban ensured even basic safety technology cars have had as standard for decades have only recently been made available as optional bike extras by killing serious development stone dead. It's only just recovering.

What was this shit all for? Homogenize the licencing requirements due to the laughable Eastern Euro standards? That happily continue to bribe their way through regardless?
