so I'm back after a 7 hour day looking for a new car, I dropped my listing from 27 possible models to 6...I sat in enough vehicles that I think I wore off some butt skin.

WHAT SHOULD MY NEXT STEP BE?

I was thinking of looking at all the trim levels for these six vehicles.

HOW FUCKED WILL THAT DAY BE?
WHAT SHOULD I WATCH FOR?
ANY DISTINCTIVE LEMON-TRIMS?

Your next step should be to buy a Crosstrek.
>>
Nice blog now fuck off
>>
Avoid the SUVs and get the Golf.
>>
>lemon trims
Jesus christ, just buy the lowest trim that has what you want, you gigantic faggot.
>>
Avoid the AWD models. If you drive on paved roads, you don't need it. If it snows where you live, get winter tires and FWD works just fine.

AWD just adds more weight and parasitic drivetrain losses, which translates to lower fuel efficiency. It's also more stuff to maintain and possibly break.
>>
>>14769103
>those choices
Jesus just tape them to a wall a throw a dart. They're all the same disposable "I have given up" bullshit
>>
>>14769568
>Avoid the AWD models. If you drive on paved roads, you don't need it. If it snows where you live, get winter tires and FWD works just fine.
While this is true, where I live they still make you chain up in the snow if you're driving FWD. AWD cars don't have to.
>>
>>14769616
>>14769568
where I live there is snow once only every 20 years or so, but I do the slightly off roading thing as a byproduct of bad road maintenance. road irregularities are common.

Golf sportwagen

Like a golf with more space.
>>
>>14770002
yeah, but almost too much more space...
>>
remove the volkswagen. they are abysmal cars.
>>
>>14770077
It's like 6-8in longer than the golf. That's nothing.
>>
>>14770108
for what reasons

>>14771093
eh, maybe, but thats an extra grand or two for a few inches that matter less to me.
>>
>>14771625
>for what reasons
better off asking google that question because nobody on /o/ will give you a straight forward answer, theyll just say "muh german engineering xddd" and dismiss you
>>
Crosstrek in hyper blue.
>>
Have you considered a GMC Terrain? Mechanically identical to the Equinox but better looking IMO.
>>
>>14769103
My friend has an HRV an the seats in the back are pretty bad. Also the AC vents on the passenger side are weird. I'd probably go with the Subaru.

get the hrv or the mazda.
>>
>>14772071
GMC dealers locally are assholes, I wouldn't give them my money even if there WAS a GMC vehicle that met all of my criteria at a lower price.

>>14772100
thanks for the heads up...

>>14771971
funnily enough, trends with complaints against the golf seem to follow similar cycles...a bad year-model with a lot of complaints followed by a steep drop in complaints, last year had a spike in complaints.
http://www.vwproblems.com/Golf/

granted this doesn't mean that the pattern is 100% certain, but it can be used for a small bit of prediction
>>
When I was buying my new used car I was at a mazda dealer. The CX higher trim interiors are fucking comfy as hell and pretty fucking sweet. Also since it's mazda I'd assume it's still a bit fun to drive
>>
>>14772317
the base model I drove had some pep, but not significantly more than most of the other vehicles in that size range.

I recently did a similar car search. I am tall and the Rav4 was too cramped, my knees were in the dash. Also the AWD switches back to FWD at 25mph.

I ended up with a Crosstrek I bought from a private party for well under the "market value". I am very happy with it. It's not super powerful but you only really notice in 1st/2nd and if you want to pass on the highway. Just did a ~2000 mile road trip with it and got just under 30mpg avg with lots of elevation change
>>
>>14772284
well last year was the intro year for the new golf if im correct. that probably explains why, new shit always has some shit wrong with it. but dont always trust those car reviews from the average consumer, because just think of the average buyer of a new car. you get opinions from Jessica who knows fuck all about cars, doesnt even know where the spare tire would be, or John who goes to his miserable office job 5 days a week and has no time to consider the condition of his car at all, leaving warning signs ignored for a long time. That alone is what makes people think VW is shit. is it more expensive then a civic that beats it in several categories? yes. is it more finicky on repairs cause of """german engineering?""" yes. But shit man, they are nice cars. Do heavy, heavy research and formulate your own opinion friend

doesn't come in hatchback
I'm in a pretty good corolla as is,

probably not going with the volkwagen now that I think about it...

yeah but I mean the same segment of ecoboxes.

>All SUVs

You actually prefered the SUVs over the hatch/coupe/sedans on the list?
What kind of car are you looking for?
>>
>>14773708
something larger than my corolla, more utilitarian, and equipped with significantly more cargo-volume.
>>
>>14773717

>>
>>14773731
The T&C is Chrystler, the Dodge is the Caravan / Grand Caravan.
>>
>>14773737
looks interesting, not Australian so no way to get it here though.

>>14773847
>grand caravan
fuel economy looking for Hwy=30 or greater

>chrystler
starting price too high.

>>14773769
I'm not gonna buy what, for me at least, is just a side-step in vehicle manufacturer.

>>14773722
>master race
this may not be /v/ but that sort of talk makes me leery of buying a subaru because of being associated with people for whom it matters that much...

it's a bit like owning a fedora these days, or worse a trilby. YOU may have it for good and just reasons, but people will still judge you poorly...BECAUSE SOME COLLECTION OF PILES OF HUMAN POND-SLIME MADE THE FEDORA A SYMBOL FOR THEIR CAUSE GOD DAMMIT
>>
are the Subaru hybrids any good?
>>
>>14769103
>he only spent 7 hours of work determining how he's going to spend 20,000+$
fuck me do people actually do this? I literally spent months researching cars before I bought mine.
>>
>>14775417
never said I was done, or that the initial list was counted in that 7 hours, that was literally 7 hours of sitting in the cars, driving them a little and examining them directly.

next (second) cut I'm going to look at the trims and component packages search for used 2016 models and rank my options by preference.

final cut ends with me driving away with a new car.
>>
>>14769103
The Subarus are garbage. Slow and they have shitty CVTs.

Golf sportwagen if you care about space
Cx-5 if you must get a shitty crossover.
Mazda 3 is better.
>>
>>14775609
>Golf sportwagen
too big

>Mazda 3
too small

crossovers are in my size range not much to say about it...
>>
>>14775753
Wtf. A Mazda 3 has almost exactly the same storage capacity as the cx-5. You'd never notice the difference unless you're filling it with packing peanuts.
>>
>>14775753
Also, the golf sportwagen is the exact same length as the cx-5.
>>
>>14769103
>>14769103
I'm more inclined to suggest going with the Honda, Toyota, or Mazda, because they tend to be more reliable past their warranty periods and cheaper to fix if they do break. Though, if you're planning on paying this car off and trading it in after the warranty expires, then the Chevy or the VW would be okay.

I really don't have any first hand experience with Subarus, however.
>>
>>14775779
on paper it has 1/3 the cargo volume.

people and stuff I need to haul both at once.

>>14775806
is it?
the brochure for it keeps corrupting when I try and download it.

some rough googling seems to corroborate you...damn, it seems I have to go look at the sportwagen plus features.

>>14775834
>trading the vw after the warranty expires
why the VW?
>>
>>14775885
I checked Edmunds.

I wouldn't buy the equinox or terrain. The seats don't fold flat because gm cut corners.
>>
>>14769432
>>14769411
In my opinion these two are your best options

Don't have experience with any of them so can't help
>>
>>14775962
Not a hit against VW by any means, they're usually fantastic cars, but when things go wrong and you have to pay for repairs, the parts and labor tend to be more expensive (as is the case with many European car brands in the US). Now, that may have changed recently, but that's been my experience at least.
>>
>>14776049
>the parts and labor tend to be more expensive (as is the case with many European car brands in the US).
any idea why that is?

>>14775964
>Edmunds
>looks up this website
well, shit...this could have given me more prep-questions to ask dealers...
>>
>>14776110
VWs tend to be a more exclusive car in the US: go to any parking lot in the US and you'll find that you'll see plenty of Japanese and American cars, but German cars are fairly uncommon. What this usually means is that most car garages won't have a lot of experience fixing them (which means more time spent under the hood), and parts are harder and more expensive to get a hold of.
>>
>>14769616

Where do you live? I am in canada, so there is snow for like 5months, and chains are illegal here
>>
Owned the equinox, was trash. Other models look good
>>
>>14777777

just checkin
