Are you people honestly surprised at this? Most people who buy a ducati aren't doing it because it's a very high performance and highly styled bike, they're doing it to flaunt wealth, whether they admit that to themselves or not. It's the same exact thing as most Ferrari and Lamborghini and Porsche drivers. They don't want the best performance they can get and they know they can't make full use of the performance they will get, they just want something expensive and attention grabbing so that they can feel cool and look impressive to normal schmucks.

>people who wear earplugs while riding

Why do people do this?
I've been riding for 10 years and never felt it was so loud that I needed ear plugs. I've had bikes that were load as fuck while droning away on the freeway and still didn't feed the need.

>inb4 deaf
I'm not hard of hearing or anything just never thought riding any of my bieks were that load.
I think I would be less comfortable and feel less situationally aware if I had earplugs in. I've tried riding with ear buds for music before and didn't like it.

Couldn't find a medical board maybe you can help.

It's a 4.5 in laceration on relatively flat real estate.

>>14776611

>>
>>14776594
Ear buds for music are not like ear plugs. Ear plugs just dampen all noise. Your ear buds with music just drowned out all the noise with even louder noise.

>less situationally aware
Earplugs in a helmet still block out less noise than a normal car with the windows up.

You may not notice it yet but long exposure to moderate noise levels is proven to cause hearing loss.

For me I feel much more comfortable and relaxed with the ear plugs in. The reduced wind noise means I'm actually able to hear better while cruising down the road as well as be able to focus on more important riding tasks. And when I get off the bike and take the plugs out I am able to adjust back to the normal noise levels much more quickly. I even recently started wearing plugs in my car just for a more relaxed, quiet ride when cruising at moderate speeds.
>>
>>14776623
I bet you have tinnitus, like serious.

>>14776594
I wear plugs because I have delicate ears, super sensitive.

>>14776631
Cyano-Acrylate
>>
>>14776594
>Why do people do this?
Because some of us have the understanding that sustained exposure to noise over a certain SPL does indeed cause cumulative hearing damage and want to avoid that.

Hint: wind noise
Even with stock pipes, if you're not behind a tall windshield the wind noise in your helmet is likely more than loud enough to cause cumulative hearing damage over the hundreds of hours you spend riding per year.

You'd have to be a retard to be around that without ear protection.

Ever been to a top fuel drag race? If you want loud that's where you'll find it. I wear earplugs under my earmuffs when I am close to top fuel cars.

>>14776673
Are you illiterate? It's not about fatigue, though hearing protection does help, it is a medical FACT that sustained exposure to loud noise causes hearing damage and slow hearing damage is almost never noticed by the person it is happening to. That's why gramps the machinist yells at you that he isn't deaf when you say something about it, he genuinely doesn't notice the hearing loss because it happened over time. It's not like having a grenade go off nearby in the war and losing all hearing in one ear instantly, it's slow and cumulative.

I have a Pitster Pro Mini Rover 125. It has mostly the same internals as the Pro Classic but a much bigger gas tank (mine is around 2.5 gallons). I also rebranded it with the Honda logo because I'm a faggot.

If you're going to be using it for trail riding I would consider something else. The suspension, forks, frame, etc. probably wouldn't stand up to it. I use mine solely for commuting to work (6 miles both ways) and it does great. I recently put a new 22mm mikuni carb and full yoshi exhaust on it and I can get it up to 64 mph (GPS verified) on a flat road with no wind.

The clutch can be a little iffy sometimes, so if you're having trouble learning the sweet spot to get it into neutral, I find it's easier to go from 2nd --> N rather than 1st --> N. You'll eventually get the hang of the pressure though. Just remember a tiny bike with tiny parts can magnify stuff like this. Also the stock carb really sucks since it has a limited adjustment profile (forget needle adjustments), and if you're a seasoned rider who wants his own setup you're better off just replacing it with a mikuni.

Overall a great second bike and being big really isn't a problem. I'm 6 feet even and weigh 220, and despite the fact that I look like a gorilla humping a beach ball, I can beat stock Groms off the line on this thing and it hasn't really given me any troubles since replacing the carb and exhaust. The gas tank is fucking huge and it's way comfier than it seems. Build quality is pretty decent, and it will hold up as long as you are punctual with maintenance.

If you have any questions feel free to ask.

the SV and the CBR both really don't have any lock, it's just about dropping it in to get it onto the stoppers as quick as possible and controlling it with the throttle so you don't drop it considering you can't turn the bars in any further now.

I know I wrote a "guide" on doing it a few months back for across anon, I might hunt it down in the archives.
>>
>>14776783
A vulcan will probably fit the aesthetic better, what with the wider V engine and all. As you can plainly see the one you posted looks like absolute shit.
>>
>>14776783
Shadow. I've had both, the shadow is so much easier to make parts work on. I wanted a fender for my 1100 ace that would hug the tire, support a passenger, but keep the suspension. Ended up having a trailer fender welded to the swing arm and custom struts attached. Less than an inch from the tire, could easily support 140lbs, and rode just like stock. Loved that bike...

Your CBR and SV have realisitic ratio first gears.

Try doing that low speed shit on a bike with a 100mph first gear that goes 1200 to 4000rpm with the smallest touch of throttle.

Best solution would probably be to get the car ahead of him and turn onto another road and gun it.
I was joking about the liter bike anyway.

Went to the back of a neighborhood in development. Friend did a tiny skid. We were only there for like 1.5 minutes in total. Started up the bike to leave and saw a guy in nothing but shorts walking toward us. Whacked the throttle open to get past him and did a little willy in the process. Friend got hit in the elbow but also got out no problem.
Slightly longer clip with sound in the wsg thread.

So I, being the moron I always knew I could be, managed to get WD-40 onto my rear rotor while cleaning my chain. Are my pads shot? Do I need to replace them?

I guess it's not too bad since, "hurr durr rear brake is worthless" but I like me some slow speed maneuvers and I don't feel comfortable splitting without rear brakes.

I can't imagine ever encountering something like that but if I did encounter some homocidal nutjob in a car I'd hope I was on one of my faster bikes. I'd rocket away, find the most public parking lot I could, park and wait there. Next to my bike. If he followed me in a public place and wanted to continue trying to run me over at least I'd be where witnesses are.

wipe it off with a cloth the best you can, then rinse it off with water and wipe it off again. If it still feels frictionless then just ride the brake for a minute until it feels normal again.

Alternatively just ride the brake for a while.

i spent a couple years with an 848 and i'm by no means wealthy, nor was i particularly interested in trying to flaunt wealth i didn't have. i came into a windfall and shopped around, rode all the midsized options from the major manufacturers and the duc was the one that spoke to me most strongly. ducati makes beautiful, incredibly competent bikes. maybe there is the wealth aspect, but i would have to assume that for most people the form factor and performance play at least an equal part.

The problem with Florida, especially south florida, is that most of the people are from somewhere else and a lot of them are immigrants. People from a bunch of varying backgrounds and a bunch of different places don't get along well just by human nature, and it breeds a general attitude of animosity and lack of courtesy. >that for most people the form factor and performance play at least an equal part.
Nope. For most people it's the name and the look, that's it. Sure it's fast, but it isn't significantly faster than a yamakawasuzonda and not in a way that the average rider will notice or use it. The paper stats may look better to the buyer but if they were slightly worse instead of slightly better that wouldn't kill the sales. The driving force is the brand recognition. Ducati is basically the ferrari of the motorcycle world, and even nobike people know this, it looks and sounds exotic and implies
>this guy has money
Now, the person may not be actively thinking or even acknowledging
>I want to look rich
but it is a part of the decision making process, just like when people buy expensive branded clothes with logos all over them. They have been conditioned by marketing to associate these brands with wealth and coolness and everyone wants to be wealthy and cool.

In this thread most are decent people, since they can afford a bike.
Ignore the kit kat poster, though
>>
>>14777283
>For most people it's the name and the look
hell, even for me a big part of it was the look. the sound of that chugging twin, the way it gurgles under engine braking, the feeling when you get off it and just want to stand around looking at it even years after you bought it. the really visceral shit was what sold me on it more than dyno numbers or the brand name, although that engine obviously does have tons of grunt literally everywhere in the powerband.

in my opinion, the thing about ducati is that beyond the bare, cutting edge-performance that the japanese manufacturers offer, ducati tailors their bikes especially to search for that something that makes the bike greater than the sum of its composites.

there is the possibility that i am also under the "spell" of ducati's brand name and allure (as you seem to imply, by extension) but i don't think it overly swayed my opinion in retrospect and i can't imagine that i'm the only one.

you have to match engine speed with the rotational speed of your transmission, but it's generally only relevant when downshifting. when you downshift, with the clutch disengaged your transmission is rotating faster than the engine is and you have to blip t he throttle to try to roughly match the speeds. it doesn't need to be perfect and it's not something you can really do intellectually, it's just somethign you have to get a feel for. generally the lower you go, the harder you have to blip it. gonna have to give her a good deal more juice to match speeds from second down to first than third down to second
