when I down shift I have to simultaneously press and hold the shifter down while letting the clutch out. this is diffrent from what I'm used to is that normal. other bikes I could pull it in slap the shifter down to the desired gear and let it but this bikei have to pull it in and let it for every gear one after the other when down shifting. I can't just be in 4th then pull the clutch in and coast to a stop then down shift it won't work like that... Pls help

waht gear do you guys go to in turns? I don't mean twisties, but actual turns, like at a red light, like a rolling turn.
>>

Your dogs are worn and slipping out of engagement.
Transmission needs a rebuild.
>>
>>14683967
Depends on speed.

Usually first or second.
>>
>>14683946
how do you get the filesize so small????
>>
>>14683971
I just rebuilt the transmission damn it. I was hoping it was just some old way of shifting lol. It's to a 1971 Yamaha
>>
>>14683976
a sharp turn, 90 degrees. Just a regular turn, i guess.. speed should be the same for everyone in a turn like that, i suppose.

Also, make sure the clutch isnt dragging

If the transmission was just rebuilt then I would assume it was inspected and parts were replaced as needed.

In which case I would suspect the shift drum. A much easier fix.

I rebuilt the whole transmission. I didn't get inside to see if it had bent shift fork or not but i replaced what was wrong with it. good oil. It's just. if I pull the clutch in and try to down shift it 2 times it goes into this "nutral" state where it's like it's in nutral but when I up shift it goes back to 4th or what ever gear it was in. idk man.

I think. it runs but shifts weird. I'm not a huge know it all when it comes to engines but I replaced what looked broke to me.
>>

Worn drum or bent fork... What was wrong with it that you could replace without "getting inside" it?

It's my friends so looking at pictures I suppose it is. Its alright, he says its loud and a bit heavy and the visor doesn't open up out of your view as much as he'd like, and he's had an issue with the visor's lock but other than that pretty good. Its a cheap, entry level helmet so pretty good.

>>
>>14684010
Hmm. The little arm used to push this ocelating gear back n forth. When you hit the shifter it moves this arm that moves a gear anyhow the arm was broke in half so I bought it online. and got new friction disks because 3 where missing and 2 where cracked in half. That's about all I did to it.

Whatever gear is appropriate for the speed you are going. If you want the engine spinning faster, use a lower gear. If you want it slower, upshift. If you are asking what gear to use from a dead stop, it's first.

That's all external. Whatever snapped that link may have bent a shift fork. Brent firms give you false neutrals.

But first, make sure your clutch isn't dragging when you pull it in, not even a little. Dragging clutches can cause some odd behaviour, but this sounds like shift forks.

no I replaced an arm piece that I had to split the case to get to. but It might be dragging because the clutch cable is kind of rigged up atm because I don't have the little piece the wire connects into so it's zip tied. It works.. Just.. Not very well. I know I need to order the right part I just wanted to know if those bikes shifted funny or what. the clutch pulls in fine but like you said if it drags even a little wich it probably is. Thanks for the help.

Starting on a 600cc is risky anon,
It can be done, but probably shouldn't and ends in failure at a much higher rate than starting around 250cc.

Bigger bikes are much less forgiving of mistakes.
They are too powerful and heavy to simply "muscle" your way out of a misjudgement.
They are easier to break, harder to fix, and need much more care and attention.
If you make a mistake and drop a 250cc - it sucks, but it's not that big of a deal.
If you make a mistake and drop a 600cc - it's way more likely to be something you seriously regret.
>>
>>14684061
If you're gonna get a cruiser keep in mind displacement on cruisers works differently than it does on something like a sport bike or a standard.

Cruisers are easy babby mode to ride, but make sure you take a training class or something so you don't kill yourself trying to turn your shit bike.
>>
>>14684079
yes but he's talking about cruisers, there are 1800cc cruisers that make less peak power than a zx-6r

basically, Like I've said before, if you want to go fast on the touge best thing to do is go slow enough where you don't even need to use the front brakes, get your body position and lines locked then you just add speed without tying yourself up.

This brings up the question. How do you secure your spare helmet so it's not just dangling off the side of your bike?

I tried to secure mine but it just hangs there and I know it's going to fuck up my plastics.

I'm more of the inclination of setting my sport bikes up for sport touring without compromising their abilities too much.

Decent life tires, bring the bars up and back a few inches, corbin seat, cruise control, etc.

I just don't see much use out of a big touring bike. My brother has a blackbird and it is comfortable but I just don't feel the joy that I do on my R6.

Going to turn my R6 into a pure track/canyon bike and probably sport/sport tour a cbr1000rr.

>>
>>14684283
Get a pair of eBay levers, try out shorty ones maybe.
Invest in barkbusters or frame sliders if you're a newb
>>
>>14684283
Clutch lever is typically loosening the clutch cable, pulling the cable out of the notch, then undoing one bolt or a bolt and lock nut.

If you can't manage that you probably shouldn't touch your bike with any sort of tool.
>>
>>14684289

Be careful with the ebay levers. They can be good but they can also be shit or just straight dangerous. Namely the brake levers.

Some of the chinese levers are not dimensioned properly for the master cylinder plunger so it is either too loose (you lose brake lever travel and thus possibly braking power) or they are too tight and it presses the master cylinder plunger in slightly.

This latter condition causes the master cylinder to close off from the reservoir orifice. when this happens the fluid starts to heat up as the brakes are used but it has no where for the fluid to expand into (typically expands into the reservoir). So what you get is the heated expanding fluid just starts pushing the caliper pistons out and dragging the brakes. As it does this more heat is generated in a compounding effect until the front wheel locks up.

Always make sure you check critical dimensions of everything when it comes to your brake system. If it's too tight make sure you dimension it properly or send it back. Likewise make sure it is tight enough that there is no play in the lever before it starts actuating the master cylinder plunger and that it actually engages your brake switch so your brake light doesn't stay on.
>>
>>14684291
Color is not an issue, search your bike name and year or look in forums
>>
>>14684291
Clutch and brake levers are typically bike specific. Make sure it fits your bike before you buy.
